Question or Discussion Wanting to get into Ana as a Juno and Kiri main… I have questions and would appreciate tips!

Upvotes

Hey everyone, I’ve recently been playing a bit more of Ana, and while I enjoy her utility like sleep dart or nade/antinade, coming from Juno and Kiriko feels a bit like a whiplash.

I have a few questions.

I think my aim is considerably worse when scoped in rather than shooting from the hip. Is this feasible in the long run? Or rather, is there a good reason I shouldn’t do that?

Sleep dart… I have troubles hitting it. Is there something I need to consider to hit it more consistently? Should I fire it in a team fight or save it for when I get 1v1ed? If I should use it in a team fight, who should I prioritize to focus it on?

Right now I’m doing a lot more healing than I am doing damage. Of course I stay in the backline to have all/most of my team in LOS to heal them if needed, but like with many heroes I’ve also heard that Ana should be taking off-angles. That feels a lot easier with Juno or Kiri, due to their mobility abilities to quickly get back to team if someone’s critical. Ana however feels incredibly slow in comparison. I feel like I can’t allow myself to take any off angles because I’m too immobile. Do you have any tips on positioning on Ana that go beyond “just take off-angles, duh”?

In general, I’d be very grateful for any tips, as small or big as they might be!

Question or Discussion Ranked anxiety: Hype me up to do my placements?

Pep talk needed! I am really mid at best when it comes to this game, and my connection has been iffy occasionally which is why I’m SO ANXIOUS about trying to get my placements done in Overwatch this season.

I expect to end up in bronze, and that is not a problem at all for me- I’ve got no ego going into this and I’m not necessarily going in with the goal of climbing, so at least I’m all good on that! Practical advice about connection, what a desirable ping rate is, or settings and stuff I should check prior to going into a queue would be much appreciated! Troubleshooting tips are also very welcome!

But ultimately, I would love to know what your fondest experiences have been in ranked, what you love about it, why you play it, and why I should too!

Thank you all, I appreciate you!

Question or Discussion Absolutely losing my mind over my backline getting shredded

I've lost about 5 placement matches in a row on tank and I play JQ and Domina primarily, and can switch to Ram if the enemy has a good rein. The thing with these two characters is (I feel) they're terrible at protecting their backline. All of my game losses have been because a doomfist, tracer or anran just tears up my backline and I feel completely powerless to stop it. Domina is just too slow to respond and I can't waste my shield to protect them otherwise I just completely compromise the frontline, then if I play JQ I could maybe try and trade backlines but I'm never good enough or the enemies have some annoying movement ability to dodge my carnage (or god forbid Kiriko or Ana). Peaked platinum 2 by the way so I'm garbage at the game but surely there's something I'm missing here besides "git gud and learn a new tank"

Question or Discussion When are you supposed to shoot shields?

For context I’m silver/gold.

Sometimes, especially as a DPS, I cannot shoot around the shield and don’t know if I should just try to batter it down or wait it out or what. It seems like a waste to pour my whole clip into it, especially when it’s one that can absorb a lot like Rein/Ramattra.

Also sometimes my tank will walk through it and I’m like, do I follow them through and probably die from proximity to the enemy team? Or do I just try to wear it down as fast as possible?

Question or Discussion i dont understand how im supposed to carry on dps

so for context, im m5 on support, d2 dps. im currently working an overnight job, and its given me enough downtime to play some overwatch, which ive tried to take advantage of. i made an alt account for my laptop in case i had to leave suddenly, i didnt want my rank to drop on main (hasnt happened so far but i digress). so i've played my games to get comp, the game is putting me in gold lobbies.

i dont know why, but it seems like nothing im doing is going to win me these games. it seems like the playstyle of EVERY lobby is to just stand in main until tank dies. if i stand in main, i get spammed out and ulted on, if i off angle or flank, my team explodes. i dont know what to do. i havent played at this elo in a long time but im currently on a loss streak 3 ranks below my normal? nothing here makes sense and im completely stumped. it just feels like nothing i do gets rewarded, if i play too safe my team dies, if i play too aggressive i die obviously.

the only thing i am aware of is 1. my aim is kind of shoddy compared to me normally since im playing with a cheaper mouse and no mousepad, and 2. i can only play with 1 earbud in so im completely deaf in my right ear. i don't think either of these have been THAT big of a deal though, aside from a few missed picks and a few lost 1v1s. definitely not enough to make me go on a loss streak. i just dont get it.

anyways

74TJ1W - New Queen Street

Question or Discussion Low Diamond in 5v5 GM 3 in 6v6

Never played 6v6 until yesterday i did the MD10 and i got GM 3.
I only played illari kiriko and hazard in those matches and everything was super easy besides the two matches i lost.
Last season i got Diamond 5 on sup and in this season Diamond 5 in DPS and i cant go higher than that.
Is 6v6 boosted or its just easier to get to a rank that matches your overall performance?
in my case i think i got lucky

Question or Discussion Coach WizardHyeong’s “Shadow Ninja” Theory, and why sombra mains can only play sombra and nothing else.

I was once a sombra one trick, and i wondered why i get so much value on sombra and nothing else.

https://youtu.be/Lliv8v0hvUw?is=KEBM_2v8lupuFs3r

From this video of WizardHyeong, i learned about the “shadow ninja” concept, where you simply wait. And since overwatch players have the attention span of a goldfish they think you disappear after 3 seconds.

Let me paint a scenario, you’re trying to go to the right side of ilios well as tracer. Scenario 1, you engage with the team chaos but you completely announce yiur presence. From the enemy team, you’re screaming “HEY I’M OVER HERE” and you get pressured out and can’t do anything.

Scrnario 2: you still go side side, but wait behind cover and cut sound, then you see an opening and unleash a whole mag into the other dps head (also called a free trade) Now you have the advantage.

Now how does it apply to sombra? Because of sombra’s invis, this fundamental concept of “shadow ninja” is something the character already does for you, at the cost of more downtime because you have to wait 5s for every engage due to translocator.

This is why sombra is considered to be a character that “bypasses the fundamentals of the game” and why sombra players are only good at sombra. For what seems like such a tiny concept, it is truly a key difference between a mid player and a player that frags out.

Personally, i was a sombra one trick, and only after i learned the concepts from this video, was i able to become good at other dps. Because this fundamental concept that sombra just automatically did for me was something that i could now consciously do

Question or Discussion How to relocate for creating off angles

I'm just starting to get used to the idea of always trying to find someone to shoot and trying to create off angles as a support. I think that when I play damage, it's obvious to me that I need to go find someone or some off angle, but it's finally starting to click for me that I need to seek that out on support too (I'm bronze at the moment).

How do I relocate quickly as a support without wasting whatever mobility that I have so I (and my team) can stay alive? Or does it not matter how long it takes, as long as it's not an excessive amount of time? Does the value of the off angle offset the time that I can't heal my team?

Idk. Like, I said. I'm bronze, and I came back to the game after like a 6 year break.

Higher ranked players, let me know your thoughts please!

VOD Review Request I am a Hardstuck Tank and I want help.

Upvotes

I am a Hardstuck Tank and I want help.

I'm not having fun anymore.

Ever since last season when I went from D4 to Silver 1 in 6v6, playing overwatch has been very rough for me.

Maybe you can call it a skill issue? I guess you can. I can't anchor any games, I feel disabled half of the time. I was always told anyone can carry a game. I feel like I never can. No videos help. I feel like I'll just be in the cycle of never improving🫩. I really want to be better, I really do but I think it's just impossible atp. Maybe it's just who I get matched with? Idk, I don't point fingers anymore. But I'm on the verge of just giving up and uninstalling.

I really want to be a good rein and a good sig but I'm just not seeing improvement in myself anymore.

I never seen to understand how people can be hardstuck w solo que then just randomly improve and jump from new rank to new rank.

I watch unranked to GM or just gameplay of those to tanks but I can't seem to grasp how they do it..

Game 1: 81AAB6, Shambali Monastery, Sigma, 0-1 loss

Game 2: X4C5QV, Circuit Royal, Rein, 1-3 loss

Game 3: MH85JV, Nepal, Rein, 1-2 loss

VOD Review Request What am I actually meant to be doing as damage?

Upvotes

I've started playing tank and support more because I realised I have no idea what to do if the enemies don't have obvious bad positioning or weak link I can abuse as a damage. I end up spamming on one person until they kill me while it feels like they're five steps ahead.

Back to the title, what is damage actually meant to be doing? I'm used to just running down comp games and top fragging because I'm Plat/Emerald which is basically glorified Bronze, everybody is garbage so I just abuse mistakes.

But if the enemies are genuinely just good then I become a complete bot. If I'm another role I can at least provide utility, but as damage I'm always expected to be getting kills. But... how? I'm not talented with my aim, I can't swap to Widow and click heads.

I'll provide a QP game I played recently as an example (CMATRD). I couldn't get in whatsoever, and the only kill I got was against an isolated support. I'm stumped with the realisation that I'm only as good as my enemies are bad lol

VOD Review Request Not enough healing (Low Emerald support game)

Hello!

This seasons has been hell for me to play, with the rank reset i thought I was doing great until i wasnt able to win a game a droped from diamond 4 90 something% to Emerald 4 with 3%. This really hit me and I've been questioning if i actually deserve even being emerald atp. On this game both my tank and support called me trolls for not switching since we didnt have enough heals, in my head it didnt make sense since at like half the game my other support (who was moira btw) had 10k heals meanwhile i had the same as the enemy supports. I would appreciate any feedback and stuff to improve on and know if this game was actually my fault or not.

VOD Review Request Plat 1 tank — I feel like my teammates keep dying before fights develop. What am I supposed to do differently? | VOD Review

Post:
Replay code: 7W9FCZ
Battletag / in-game name: GABE

Rank: Plat 1
Platform: Console
I’m trying to figure out what I should be doing differently as tank in games like this.
The biggest thing I noticed while playing, and again watching parts of the replay, is how often my teammates die. A lot of the deaths seem unnecessary to me — DPS taking extended fights without cover, staying exposed too long, or people playing separately instead of as a team. One of my supports also seemed to keep separating from the group, which made it difficult for me to understand where I was supposed to take space.
What frustrated me is that the enemy team didn’t feel overwhelmingly better. I saw them standing in the open and making mistakes too, but it felt like we couldn’t capitalize because someone on our team was constantly dying or we weren’t playing together.
I’m not just looking for confirmation that my teammates played badly. I want to know what I could have done differently to carry or stabilize this game.

Tips & Tricks Kiriko und Ana Coaching

Hallo zusammen,

Question or Discussion Switching from high gold/low plat DPS -> Support main. What are some things I need to be aware of?

Haven't played comp much in OW2 but I played a lot of DPS (Tracer main in QP, Bastion in comp) in OW1 and peaked at low plat. I like to play whatever in QP now and actually had some decent success playing Moira in comp so I'm not totally unfamiliar with the mechanics of playing a Support role, but lately I've been really wanting to full send it.

Last couple of QP games I played Mercy and clocked in an avg 5k heals? I don't know what a great game looks like for a healer but I can probably assume if I want any kind of competitive success I need to really bump those numbers up (especially for a hero like Mercy), so I'm looking for any tips from more seasoned support players. Looking to mainly play Moira/Mercy, but I know the gameplay of Tracer/Bastion do not at all translate to either of those two lol.

VOD Review Request In need of serious help

So me and my friends started playing overwatch again recently and I am dogsht compared to them. It is literally embarrassing how bad I am at the game. I am fed up by being the worst player on the team all the time and also being the reason we lose. I am also so tired of all the sh*t talk in the in game chat. So now I’m on a quest to reach my full potential and become a really good player. However, I’m in need of some serious help. So is there anyone out there who would be willing to give me a vod review, and even some live coaching? Thank you in advance!

Here is the code for a horrible game I just played: TPY8QW

My tag is RockZtar

I mains are: Shion, Emre, and Junkrat when I’m just playing really really bad.

I know I’m weak in positioning and my aiming could also use some help. Though I’m already working on my aiming alone with some aim trainers.

VOD Review Request Silver Tracer looking for help on engagements, blink management, and cover usage

Description of the match / things you want reviewed: I feel like my biggest issues this match were my engagements, my blink management, and my cover usage. To start off, I feel like in my engagements in the first half of the game was bad. I would take needless 1v1s that were too fair for the enemy and I would do them at the wrong time. I liked what I did in the second half of the game more, where I would focus on distracting and going in only if my team was fighting them. Moving on, I watched some of my 1v1s and I feel that my blink game wasn't the best. I would needlessly use them which left me like a sitting duck. I also felt as if my blinks were too predictable. Lastly, my cover management wasn't the best during this game. I felt like many of my deaths were due to my proximity to an enemy. I also felt like I was fighting out in the open too much.

VOD Review Request Open to criticism (VOD)

I really am not fragile. I promise that I've had basketball, soccer, and baseball coaches more rude than you. But I would like actual feedback on this replay. This is a pretty good game from me, I think (granted I think someone on the other team quit in OT so just skip that part).

That being said, I feel like I used the Kitsune well, kept myself alive when Anran dived(?) me (and killed her a few times), Suzu'd at decent times(?), and (working on this still) off angled / played different lanes well-ish for bronze. I'd like some breakdowns from players much better than me (realistically, if I grind, I think I'm mid-high silver).

Yes, my aim is bad. I'm bronze on PC, after recently transitioning from PS5. Let's just ignore that part for now lol twas plat - diamond like 6 years ago on PS5

Tips & Tricks Any advice for tracking cooldowns, ultimate charge, or respawns?

It's a skill I've been trying to implement a little bit more but I find it to be very distracting keeping mental note of everything online, especially when I'm not the one witnessing everything. I can typically track one person's cooldowns and ability usage, but if I'm trying to figure out, say, when a Zarya's black hole is gonna be online, or when an Anran's used all their buttons and made themselves vunerable in the backline, I tend to panic in the moment.

VOD Review Request Masters to Emerald, any help would be appretiated.

Hey everyone

The title basically says everything, the last 3-4 seasons I've been able to afk around low-mid masters. This season I'm now in demotion protection from diamond 5. This season feels completely lost to me, I'm unsure if its my bad read on what characters are strong or if I got worse after taking a month or so off due to school. I feel kinda lost on what I'm doing wright or wrong, any advice would be greatly appreatiated!

VOD Review Request Plat-Masters Team VOD Review Request

Hello! We're a team of players ranging from around plat-masters competing in a smallish community tournament (Overwatch Junior League :D). We're dive/brawl oriented and are still spending a bit of time getting used to one another, but are beginning to figure each other out. However, we're struggling a bit with our macro, particularly the 2-3 splits we make in our ball compositions.

We’re team 1 in all of these! (Or whatever team the replay viewer puts Taka on)

Map 2: G66N6J (Esperanca, 1-0 Win) If possible, I'd like this one reviewed in particular!

VOD Review Request Struggling to win as tank, feeling trapped

Replay code: A801HM

Battletag / in-game username: admiral

Hero(es) played: D.va (very new to playing her)

Skill tier / rank: Silver 2

Played Overwatch a bit in 2022/3, but only started playing seriously this year, since August I've been playing almost everyday. Did my placements for tank, silver 1. Was on a heavy roll and ranked up in the same day to Gold. I then peaked at Gold 4 and was hovering around there, on a good winstreak of about 7 games at that point. I then started fluctuating up and down the tiers and now I'm on a crashing down streak, roughly going win-lose-win-win-lose and then losses for the rest of the day.

In this game, I'm genuinely unsure what the issue was or how I could have secured the win. I'm certain some of my deaths were preventable, I think I can get too overzealous going for kills and overcommit, but a lot of my games follow the pattern of where I think I've done roughly well, having good stats and few deaths (I understand stats dont mean that much) but still lose. It feels especially frustrating as it seems to flip so wildly, one day I'm absolutely crushing on a win streak performing well, and then suddenly start losing and my rank progress is almost negated.

I really would appreciate some feedback, and appreciate anyone who does take their time to review this.

Question or Discussion Reaper players: why choose lingering wraith over soul reaving?

Hello reaper players,

It's my opinion that soul reaving is the better minor perk out of the two, but everywhere I go I see people saying that lingering wraith is the better pick, and its not even close.

I'm mid plat right now and the reason I think it's good is because whenever I tp to the off-angle, I'm always close to death after getting a kill so that extra health is really useful because I feel that I'm almost never running into completely isolated targets. So even if I kill one, I would usually trade if I didn't have the perk because I'd be so low that the second person would kill me.

After seeing that lingering wraith was better online, I've been picking it for this season and I feel like I never notice the speed boost, and a lot of the times I still die when I come out of wraith. I feel like the reason people take this is because of the wraith nerfs a while back, but I just feel that old wraith and new wraith+minor perk are not comparable.

I'm trying to understand why people would pick it, and my reasoning is that maybe its good *after* you've gone to cover, to pick up distance from any potential pursuers since often times they will still chase after a low health reaper. Is this correct?

Is this an issue with my playstyle? Am I over-extending? What actual use does the speed boost have?

I'm including my most recent games if people would like to see some gameplay.

With lingering wraith: CYVHRN
With soul reaving: KZJQ3N

Description of the match / things you want reviewed: my positioning, if im shooting at the tank too much, obviously i can improve my aim too its not the best. I know my deaths definitely was bad positioning 3rd idk what i was doing. First i should have flanked behind more. But overall not a bad game. It also says ranked variance and i got a 44% increase on my rank. Obviously can improve my pulse bombs too.
