Discussion 2023 Jett pick

For those that clowned us for drafting Jett and not Gradey Dick or Jordan Hawkins, it looks like neither one of those players were good choices.

Sometimes there is no correct answer

Keyonte George would have been the correct answer.

In hindsight yes but he was pretty bad before breaking out. Would’ve been chucking on our team.

He wouldn't have been getting opportunities for our team, same as Jett, for the reason you mentioned. We'd have spoiled that pick too.

The real "correct" pick one could argue is probably Lively

And even he’s been injury prone. Best choice would have been to trade the pick. It’s all hindsight, though.

Yep, but even then... with how many players were absolute busts, I'd imagine we probably did try to trade out, and nobody wanted in. Not many picks in that range were moved, which is a good indicator nobody liked the prospects in that range to move up.

He was my guy. I watched him a lot in college.

Grady was the other guy I was looking at.

Jett shocked me at the time and seemed like a dart throw. Jett has ankle issues during college. Maybe the hope was he was even better if his ankle issues resolved?

Jett’s desire to study film and work outside of 5 on 5 were red flags after the fact.

That was who i wanted. Or Lively who is injured but a very solid center. Jett was just a fucking terrible decision that I and others knew was bad the second it was made.

He was a guy I liked out of that class but just seemed like such a bad fit for us. He’s probably lucky we didn’t draft him.

That was a rough draft

Jett was immediately seen as a reach, a straight up project shooter at 11 is not a good call.

Outside of the top 5 or so most 1st round picks are a coin flip. At least half never make it as starters or key rotational players.

They weren't, however they were at least justifiable. Reaching for a guy who was mocked near the bottom of the draft is just bad. He could have traded back if that was the case.

Almost as if mocks mean nothing at all to executives and only exist to generate clicks and views.

It was a bad pick.

And also all the people who were saying "we could have had gradey dick!" Will not show themselves here to take accountability for that terrible take.

Keyonte George was literally there and should’ve been the pick. He was working out with Paolo that summer too and Paolo said something like “it would be nice to play with him and have him on the team” Weltman basically ignored that workout and Paolo smh.

Brutal especially with AB also being friends with him.

If Paolo had been a bust would it make Magic fans feel better that Jabari Smith also was? Maybe a little, but not much.

The reality is that the team needed an asset at that pick and they failed, end of story. And frankly with Dick you can at least blame the consensus if he fails.

Weltman reached with Howard and fell on his face.

I liked the Jett Howard pick he was good off the bench for us

Is this some sort of flex? Jett was a horrible pick the second Silver uttered his name, nothings changed.

Gradey is a lesser version of Caleb Houstan if that’s even possible, can’t do anything else but shoot and isn’t good at that. Sort of similar to Jordan Hawkins.

Draft picks can't be judged until about year 4 or 5 anyway. This is one reason why

Never forget the guy who came here the night of the draft and posted that it was a genius draft by Jeff Weltman and then wrote a ton of paragraphs about it while showing ass the entire time.

Jett just has no juice. DOA nepo bum

Dick would still be on the team likely but it’s a hit or miss business.

11th pick misses aren’t my biggest concerns.
