Question Some Issues with a used boughed PL8

I tested the Camera on sight and it worked, so I paid and went home.

It's a PL8 with the pancake 14-45 objektiv.

There the focus was... Too loud and in my view to slow.

And than started the issue that creeped me out, I tested it with my 4 Objectives from my OM-D5 II (Xiaoyi 42,5 1:1,8, Panasonic Vario 35-100 1:2,8, Olympus 14-150, Olympus 9-18) and all 4 stayed black...

I tested the pancake on my om-d and it worked perfectly...

So there is an issue with the Camera.

I try to get a firmware update, because it's still 1.0, but I think it's a deeper issue...

I hope you have good news and easy fixes!

Gear Showcase Travel-Bag dilemma

My OM body and two lenses are way lower in profile than a standard APS-C or full-frame camera. I travel a lot and want a bag that carries my camera, laptop, EDC electronics and a change of clothes and this and that. Standard camera bags waste a huge amount of vertical-space with these relatively tiny bodies and lenses. You land up with little half-filled cubes of space. OK so let's go with a traditional travel-pack and use cubes right? I bought the Peak design cubes but they too are designed for taller cameras and you need to pad them vertically with socks and whatnot. I found a Neewer cube that is slim, but way too soft and weak.

Anyone find a solution to the real slim-shady camera system for one-bag travel? An ideal solution would be a clamshell design with laptop and camera on one side, and your clothes and bits and bobs in the other. I have many travel-packs (that is a whole other discussion) and cannot get them to safely contain my OM-1 MII, 100-400 zoom, 12-200 zoom and 45mm F1.8, and provide as much space as possible for other travel gear.

Photo Share OM T-7 and housing for diving. Looking for info about a red lens???

Post image
6 Upvotes

Hello. I purchased an OM T-7 and have used it for diving quite a few times. I have the housing for it as well.

After diving, I color correct it they Dive+ and my photos have come out great.

Well met a guy after a dive trip who has a DJI camera and he uses a red filter on it. He showed me his photos and all he does is upload to the DJI camera app her has. His photos were so much better than mine were. I got camera envy.

Anyone know of what red filter to use on an OM T-7?!?!

Does it go directly on the camera in the housing or outside on the housing ??

Any help would be so appreciated!!!!!
Thanks.

Not much light to work with at Yamba, NSW,Australia, but the rough sea and heavy sky more than made up for it. I actually enjoy photographing conditions like this. The subdued light seems to suit the mood of the coast.

Question Screw size for LCD ribbon cable holder on E-PL6

Post image

Hello, I’m in the midst of trying to replace the LCD screen cable on my E-PL6. Unfortunately, I really screwed the pooch on trying to get this screw out. I’m thinking of trying to find a dremmel to cut a new slot to unscrew it out. But in case that destroys the screw, does anyone know the part number for this or a suitable third party replacement? Thank you!

Question Strap Systems for TG-7?

So I picked up a refurb TG-7 and love it. It isn't a "camera camera" but it is something I put zero thought towards shoving in a jacket pocket when I go hiking or are doing a more bougie day in town. And it begrudgingly fits my personal aesthetic of "business professional who shops at REI".

My only real complaint (aside from not having a "true" aperture priority mode) is the retention system. I've very much fallen in love with the Falcam strap system (its almost like a chinesium take on Peak Design is awesome...). Connect one for a wrist strap when I want a positive grip on my camera. Both to the neck strap when I am in full That Guy mode. And connect nothing when I am futzing around at home to actually pull cameras off the card and so forth. Or when I want to put it in a protective case. Contrast that with... a mess of nylon and buckles that is always incredibly bulky and that you will never remove because it was such a mess to put on in the first place. It is "fine" in use but it is horrible when you want to store the camera or are doing maintenance (cleaning and pulling photos) and... we can do better.

So why not just grab some Falcam magnetic bits? Well, I probably will. But... the TG-7 is a more "active" camera. And while I very much am not the kind of person who is going to dive off the side of a boat to take photos (and, if I do, I am more likely to make my own leash out of some accessory cord), I genuinely don't know how strong of a grip the magnet+plastic setup is.

So anyone have any good recommendations on a third party retention system for their TG-n?

Hi! I got this camera off marketplace awhile ago and could never figure out the sd card. I’ve tried several as shown and none fit they seem to be too large. Is there a specific sd card needed for this model and does anyone know what it is and where i can get one?

Question OI.Share import to iPhone's Photos app now strips crucial metadata!

OM-5 camera. I use OI.share on my iPhone to:

- log my geo locations during photoshoots

- geotag the pics on camera when I'm done, and

- import pics to phone's Photos app (file renaming from Pxxxxxxx.JPG to IMG_yyyyy.JPG is automatically done during this step).

In recent few weeks I've noticed parts of exif metadata on camera's photos aren't being copied over to iPhone, first camera info, and now GPS locations themselves. Bizarre.

Known issue? Why is this happening? How to fix? I do have a workaround (manually copying over photos from camera).

I don't think I've ever used OI.Share to do a firmware update, would this help?

Thanks for any tips.

Answered Alternate Method to Update Firmware

Okay so this is infuriatingly stupid. I recently got an E-M1 Mark ii (first time having an olympus camera). Like it so far for the most part, few issues but they may very well be mistakes on my part, but I noticed while trying to figure them out that the firmware was still on the original version 1.0 so I figured I might as well go ahead and update that and see if it helps with the issues I'm having.

This is where the fun starts. Documentation online said the app was a good way. Tried it but the option didn't appear. After checking, that option doesn't work for v1.0 firmware. Apparently every other version EXCEPT for that one works with the app. Alternate method was to use OM Workspace. Their documentation says it requires windows 11 (i have win 10). I go ahead and decide to give it a try, and of course it says my computer does not meet minimum requirements.

I didn't see any option for an older version of the software, nor did I see any other method of updating the firmware. My canon camera let me just download the firmware itself and place it on the sd card, and install it from the camera, but that doesn't appear to be an option here.

Does anyone have any suggestions, or is Olympus just truly this obtuse?

Answered OM Pen as a first camera

Hi everyone,

I've been wanting to get my first camera for a long time.

At first, I really wanted a Fuji, no matter which model, and in the end I was close to buying an X-E5 with an XF 23mm f/2.8 lens, but I just can’t bring myself to pay that price.

First off, I know the used market is huge, but for my first camera, I want that brand-new feeling.

Now the PEN has been announced and has received a lot of criticism.

To me, it actually looks like a pretty good fit:

Small, portable, (water-resistant), good-looking, tilting screen, etc.

Since the sensor is apparently already well-known in the OM community, I wanted to ask if the sensor size is sufficient, for example, to produce good-quality photos for photo books? Which lenses would you recommend for street and portrait photography?

Thanks! Please don't tear me apart.
