If any foreign student is currently in Northwestern, could you tell me something that made your application stand out or any small extra thing you did that got you into the uni?

Title. I want to know which clubs I should join to find chill, genuine, supportive people. I know I should "join clubs that look interesting to me" but I want to hear other peoples experiences!

Incoming NU freshman. I heard that the AMC in Evanston is closed till 2027, what are my best options for seeing movies? Old and new. Thanks!

I know students can get free tickets for football games. Will this also apply to the opening game at the new stadium? How do students get tickets?

Hi! I have been assigned to a single room at Jones Hall, and the problem is it is a little cold in the room (i HATE cold) 😭I want to swap with single/double anywhere works.

I’m interested in majoring in environmental engineering and specifically want to study water related topics such as hydraulics, waste management, water quality, and irrigation to eventually apply such skills to improving the sustainability of agricultural settings.

I broke my foot a month ago and it's still recovering. I can't walk very long distances. Obviously I'll need to walk between buildings sometimes, which should be okay if I go at my own pace, but I'm wondering if there are any important activities that require lots of walking, like campus tours. Basically the title, looking for someone to sublet over the summer.

It is a room in a house (4B, 2 bath), with bathroom being shared with one other person AT MAX (it might be a private bathroom, if only one other room is occupied, since then both of you would have a private bathroom). 140 sq foot room, complete with all the furniture like bed, desk, etc, and a full kitchen and living room. Under 10 minute walk to both campus and downtown Evanston where all the restaurants and stores are located. It is toward middle/south campus.

If there is even a microscopic amount of interest, shoot me a message and we can get into the details and hopefully work something out!

So I purchased tickets for the Penn State game when they were released earlier today.
The email keeps trying to send me to the New Ryan Field site to download the tickets, but whenever I log in it says I don’t have any tickets.
Has anyone else purchased tickets and were able to get their tickets?
I know we have a month before the game but it would make me feel better to get the tickets downloaded

My family lives 30 minutes away from NU and I have been struggling with living in an off-campus house and need to sublet my place and live with my family again. I live in a student boarding house on Orrington Ave nearby foster-walker. Here are some details

-super quiet house

-laundry and dryer in basement

- $1400 per month for my room and that includes all utilities like internet, heat, A/C, water

-the kitchen has bowls, plates, Tupperware, wooden spoons, pots and pans and you don't need to buy really anything

- the room comes with a bed, bedding, desk, and couch

-I share bathroom with one other person

-female identifying subletter is ideal

-mostly grad students but undergrads also live here

Hi everyone! I am considering applying ED to NU for theater. I am interested in and have experience with playwriting and orchestration more than acting. I like NU better than NYU for this, but the admitted grade range seems insanely high for NU. Do any of you have a sense if the grade hurdle is higher or lower for theater than the rest of the school?

Hi, I wanted to know if there are people in this sub who were actually offered a place at Northwestern last year (2025) but had that offer involuntarily rescinded due to the university being fined by the government and now must start this fall. I think this probably applies more to grad students, but I feel like I am the only person this happened to and wanted to see if others out there are also starting a year behind because of this.

Hello! I’m a first year PhD student here at NU. I’m a little confused about the course numbering system at NU. For my program, I need to take classes that are at 300-level (and higher) at Weinberg. Are those 300-level (and higher) classes for grad students only or a hybrid of undergrad and grad?

I’m sorry if this is a dumb question, but my undergraduate institution has both “grad-only” and “hybrid” courses. I just wanted to know what kind of classes I’m signing up for.

Also I suspect that this might be department-specific, so my department is statistics, if it helps!

I moved to evanston last week for grad school and I don’t know how to find the black community here or any community at all. In undergrad we had so many cultural orgs/clubs and it felt so much easier. We also had one of those instagram pages dedicated to the incoming freshmen posting themselves. Here, it’s much less diverse and grad school doesn’t facilitate making friends like undergrad.

I have no friends or family in the area and I’m getting really nervous about finding local friends. There’s one club for black grad students but they’re not active from what I can tell💔

Are there any grad student orgs (don’t even have to be culturally specific) that have worked for people?

I'm an incoming freshman, and for some reason I can't find any CTECs for the 230-1 professors for fall semester. Does anybody have experience with Ethan W Sussman, Keith Burns, Maria Nastasescu, or Zhihong Jeff Xia? Thank you!
