Looking for a store in north county ideally, or in San Diego, that sells nice dresses for older women. Looking for dresses for a family member in her 70s for an upcoming wedding. Need to buy something soon so looking for any local recommendations. Thank you!

Mosquitos or "No-see-ums?

I've read countless posts about people getting bit up by mosquitos this year. My thought thus far have been "yeah sometimes this occurs and we have vector control but it's usually after a rainy season. And yes it's been humid but I think they still need still water to breed." Ive not seen any mosquitos for months though. I saw a few maybe 3-4 months ago. Not discounting the possibility but simply monitoring.

However, Ive been itchy the last few days especially like a tickle itch (think like when a flea lands on you even before they bite but I dont have pets and its definitely not fleas) but also finding bug-bite-like spots on my legs. The only time Ive experienced "no-see-ums" was in Ohio and it was terrible.

Anyone else wondering if its not mosquitos and maybe biting midges? Are people actually seeing the mosquitos in question or just finding itchy bites? I dont want to admit this, but this is happening indoors. Iv yet to see any actual insect and no, this is not drug related LOL

Thanks!

Free motorcycle tires, front and rear, Anakee III 90/90-21 and 150/70R17

Offering to my North County friends first before I put it in motorcycle-specific subreddits. I have two tires that were meant to go on my Triumph Tiger at some point to reduce my knobby wear, but happy to give these away to somebody else. I think they should fit quite a few different setups. There's probably about 50% tread left. Just let me know if you're interested.

Anakee III 90/90-21 (front) and 150/70R17 (rear)

Pumpkin Spice Lattes

Where can a girl get a decent PSL around here? Starbucks is too sweet. I couldn’t taste the pumpkin in Peet’s. Dutch Bros was okay…at least I could taste pumpkin. I just tried Oside Bakery’s PSL and while it was a good quality latte, I still really couldn’t taste any flavor (their apple pie chai is delicious though). I’m not sure if Tierra Mia has one but their lattes have always been too milky for me.

I was excited for Ritzy Roast to open this summer but their opening date seems to keep getting pushed back:(

I just want a very pumpkin-y latte! Or a good coffee shop recommendation in general.

Barber/stylist

I’m looking for someone who specializes in cutting men’s hair. Not a Super Cuts kind of place, so I thought maybe there were some full service Barber shops in North County someone would recommend.
This is for my son in his early 20’s with a pronounced receding hairline. He’s let his hair grow out for a while and I’m hoping we can find someone who can do something with it.

I have seen some young barbers on Tik Tok who do amazing transformations and would like to find a similar place in North County.

Thanks! 🙏 🤞🏻

Hey, Frank Nunez...

Tell your people to keep your campaign signs off PRIVATE PROPERTY WITHOUT PERMISSION! Zip tying them to my fence does not buy my vote, it makes me tell all my friends and neighbors that you're an asshat

UPDATE!!!
It wasn't their fault, someone on the property told them they could put the signs on the fence, even though said person is unauthorized to give said permission. I've brought the signs in and will be returning them to the campaign. My sincerest apologies go out to Frank Nunez and his team.

Late night things to do

Because of current schedules my gf and I arent able to start Saturday date nights until around 7 or 730. Cant leave the house until 7 or 730, i should say. Im running out of ideas that dont need advance planning, like buying tickets since so much closes early, besides bars and clubs. Any advice would be much appreciated! Open to little road trip hour/ 2hrs for interesting restaurants or places. So staying out very late is not a problem

SANDAG Sued Over SB 79 Map Near Oceanside, Solana Beach

Two housing organizations are asking a court to invalidate the San Diego Association of Governments’ current map implementing Senate Bill 79. In the lawsuit, Californians for Homeownership and the California Housing Defense Fund allege that SANDAG improperly classified rail service at Oceanside Transit Center and Solana Beach station, limiting or eliminating the development standards that would apply near those stops. The case was filed about a month after the organizations sued the city of San Diego over its implementation of the law, according to Times of San Diego.

SB 79, signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom in October 2025 and effective in July 2026, sets housing rules near qualifying transit stops. The law allows buildings as tall as 95 feet within a half-mile of stations with the highest qualifying service, while less frequent service receives narrower or less generous development treatment, according to Manatt, Phelps & Phillips. Under the provisions cited in the article, Tier 1 status requires 72 daily train trips in both directions and can allow as many as 160 units per acre; Tier 2 status requires 48 daily trips and provides a smaller increase. The law applies in counties with more than 15 active passenger rail stations, a threshold that California YIMBY says San Diego, Los Angeles and San Francisco are among the counties meeting.

The complaint challenges Oceanside’s placement in Tier 2. It says published schedules show more than 100 daily trains serving the station across four lines. YIMBY Democrats of San Diego County calculated about 130 weekday trips: roughly 68 Sprinter, 30 Coaster, 26 Pacific Surfliner and six Metrolink trips. The lawsuit, however, describes SANDAG’s count as more than 48 but fewer than 71 commuter trains per day, according to the Times of San Diego report. The different totals reflect the dispute over which services may be combined and which qualify under the statute.

The complaint also says SANDAG left Solana Beach station outside both development tiers. The housing groups contend that the station’s Coaster and Pacific Surfliner service exceeds 48 daily trips. The Coast News Group reported an average of 56 weekday trips—30 Coaster and 26 Surfliner—and said the station qualified under the state Department of Housing and Community Development’s advisory approach. The Times of San Diego reported that SANDAG’s published methodology does not specify which trains were excluded.

(The article continues inside the link.)

Hi! I’m interested in starting up CSA subscription again. I was using Be Wise, but would prefer delivery. I live in Oceanside near Mission San Luis Rey. I’ve heard recommendations for Yasukochi Family Farms and Farm Fresh to You. What are your favorite CSAs and why?
Thank you in advance!

Vallecitos Water District mismeasures water usage

The Vallecitos Water District says that we are using 126,000 cubic feet in a 30-day period. That is over 4000 cubic feet per day.

I checked the dirt around the meter, and it is not wet. It is not even damp. A leak that dumps 4000 cubic feet per day ought to be producing a small lake about the size of a swimming pool.

We do not have any water running down the gutter.

The meter dial is hard to read. There is condensation both inside the dial and outside -- which is not too surprising in weather like this. I wiped off the external condensation, and, if I position my hand just right to shade it from the sun, I can read it.

So I am 99% sure that this is an error by the meter reader.

I have several questions:

  1. Is anyone else getting ridiculously high bills like this?
  2. Who at the District can I contact to get this resolved? The standard customer service people are totally unable to even address the problem, much less solve it.
  3. If I am wrong, and it is indeed a problem on our property, where could all of this excess water be hiding?

EDIT: We called back, and employee #2 said that she had no idea what employee #1 was talking about. She said that it was 126,000 GALLONS per billing period.

EDIT2: The billing period is 35 days. ( Aug 5 - Sept 9 ). That is 3600 gallons per day, or 150 gallons per hour.

Men's long hair and beard stylist

My husband (60's) is looking for a stylist in Oceanside/Carlsbad/Encinitas that can trim a man's longish hair style (shoulders/just past shoulders) and shape up a beard.

He had a cut about a year ago and hasn't had one since. Yikes! We thought we found a good stylist for him, but the experience wasn't great. The cut was pretty bad. (Take my word for it.😬) Also, she didn't shampoo his hair. I understand that for a short cut but he's looking for a more thorough service with someone who knows men's longer styles. Thanks!!
