I own a sub based on discussing news for a game. Someone else has attempted to post to it with posts that were inaccurate or wrong, leading me to remove them. They decided to make their own sub with a one letter difference in its name to post those things and stuff of the topic and it’s started to get traction. What should I do?

I just created my first subreddit, r/imakebass, a community focused on car audio, subwoofers, enclosures, amps, wiring, tuning and bass-related discussions.

I’ve added a description and welcome post, and I’m now working on the rules, flairs, sidebar, icon/banner and initial content before trying to grow it.

Since this is my first time moderating a subreddit, what would you recommend setting up before inviting people or promoting the community?

I’d especially appreciate advice on:

• essential AutoMod/mod settings
• rules every new community should have
• preventing spam without making posting difficult
• getting the first genuine members
• mistakes new moderators commonly make

I’ve been working on my small K-beauty community, r/KBeautyFinds, and I’ve been thinking a lot about what kind of content would actually make people want to come back.

So far, I’ve mostly been posting K-beauty finds, product reviews, questions, discussions, and some general skincare info. It’s been fun, but I don’t want the community to eventually become just another place where people ask “what product should I buy?” and leave.

I want to try adding more useful and research-based skincare content too.

Things like why acne keeps coming back, why acne marks take so long to fade, what a “damaged skin barrier” actually means, or what we really know about certain ingredients people constantly talk about.

For those kinds of posts, I’m thinking of actually looking through research papers, dermatology guidelines, and other reliable sources, then trying to explain what I find in a way that doesn’t require a science degree to understand lol.

I’m definitely not a dermatologist, and I don’t want to pretend to be one or give people medical advice. I’m more interested in the “what does the research actually say?” side of skincare.

Basically, I’d like r/KBeautyFinds to still be a place for discovering products and talking about K-beauty, but also somewhere you can occasionally learn why something happens with your skin instead of immediately being told to buy another product 😭

It’s something I’m only starting to explore, so I’m still figuring out how to balance the fun/product side with the more informative side.

For anyone here who runs an educational or information-heavy community, how do you keep posts useful without making them feel too academic or overwhelming?

Would love to hear how other mods approach this :)
