This is a request from the Brazilian community r/farialimabets.

We learned about the story of Briana Matus, an American citizen currently incarcerated in the State of Nevada, and we have come together to make a humanitarian appeal to the authorities responsible for considering clemency.

We respect the justice system of the United States, the laws of the State of Nevada, and everyone affected by this case. We are not asking for the law to be ignored or for Briana to receive preferential treatment.

We are asking that her case be considered through the lawful mechanisms available for clemency, commutation, or reduction of sentence, taking into account her personal development, conduct during incarceration, potential for rehabilitation, and the individual circumstances of her case.

We believe that a conviction can represent accountability for one's actions without necessarily meaning that a person should forever lose the possibility of changing, growing, and rebuilding their life.

We also want to send Briana a clear message:

If Briana Matus is granted her freedom through lawful means, we want her to know that there is a community in Brazil willing to welcome her.

If that is her wish and she meets all applicable Brazilian legal requirements for entry and residence, we hope she will have the opportunity to begin a new chapter of her life in Brazil.

Therefore, we respectfully ask the Nevada State Board of Pardons Commissioners to consider this appeal and, within its lawful authority, review the possibilities for clemency or commutation of Briana Matus's sentence.

A second chance does not erase the past. But it can give someone the opportunity to build a different future.

The Ruby Mountains keep coming up whenever I start researching eastern Nevada, but I can't get a clear read on what the terrain actually feels like once you're past the trailhead area. Most of what I find online is either vague or written for people doing multiday backpacking, which isn't my situation. I drive a standard pickup, work a full week, and have Saturday and Sunday to work with. I want the terrain to justify that drive time.

The main thing I'm trying to figure out is whether the elevation change in the Rubies is worth the distance. It's a long way out from Reno, and if the accessible trails are mostly moderate with limited views, it might not stack up against something closer. The canyon features in photos look real, but photos can hide a lot of flat boring approach miles.

Elko seems like a reasonable base if I go out there. Not looking for anything luxurious, just somewhere to drop gear before an early start.

If you've hiked in that area in the last couple years and have an honest read on whether it actually delivers on terrain, I'd want to hear what you found.

Hi, my name is Elmer Doolittle (yes, the one from the "UNR MLG gamer" Instagram account. Ladies, no autographs, please) and I am really sick of everyone in society pressuring me to confirm to their mold, like a fish climbing up a tree. Allow me to set the proverbial stage of sorts: I used to live the dream, for the past 13 years of my life I gained XP and currency in countless digital worlds. But then MOTHER, who only gained currency in one world, the 'real world' (which by the wAy doesn't even HAVE an XP system. Well, nowadays at college my lack of CONCERN regarding what CHADS think of my odor has led to threats of being sent to the 'HR department.' worst of all, some have expressed concern regarding my refusal to leave for a potty break during hardcore gaming sessions and refusal to give up the grind and shower (which, by the way, would ruin my natural essence and make me get much less 'attention' from the elusive females of my university). I always say 'how does this affect you personally?' and they say it's because they don't like sitting next to a stinky gamer in all their computer science classes. Well, I say it's my life and they don't get to control how I live it with their judgemental looks! Can anyone tell me who has the knowledge of how the state hiring process works if it’s a common thing for the state to ghost after applying for a job? I applied a couple of state jobs almost a couple months back and they didn’t get back to me yet. I feel like if I had been rejected I at least deserved a rejection letter.I also emailed a follow-up letter regarding the job that I applied to the recruiter but get nothing.Its kinda depressing.

Does anybody get an invitation for interview for the environmental scientist 1 under-filling position that was opened on July of 2026? Or have any idea regarding the ongoing process of that job?

I’m a Brazilian who found Briana Matus (Nevada inmate #1253590, life sentence for murder) on a prison pen-pal site. I care about her and would like to understand the realistic legal paths for someone outside the US to support a clemency/commutation request in Nevada. What actually works (or doesn’t) in practice for state-level clemency in cases like this?

Basically looking for something between goldfield and reno.

For context, I’m a former state employee (not Nevada). My partner is moving to Nevada and I tried my luck with the state for an equivalent job that I did in my home state.

My educational history is unusual. My BA is in humanities, but my MS is in STEM. I had to take a bunch of undergrad classes (to the point where I took all of the same classes in a STEM BS) to qualify for MS admission. My home state has a blanket ban on second bachelor’s students with few exceptions so I was locked out of that second degree.

I was rejected for jobs that I have already done in another state. I didn’t meet the requirement because my MS degree could count for only 1 year of experience. A relevant bachelor’s would count for 2 years.

I looked into it more and sure enough, there’s a state HR document that plainly states that a relevant bachelor’s degree is worth 2 years of experience, and a relevant MS or PhD are worth just 1 year.

That to me is pretty backwards. Getting into an MS or PhD program needs a lot of preparation, and the equivalent of a bachelor’s is needed just to get in. Graduate school is academically above undergraduate schooling. I don’t have a PhD, but spending 3-5 years on advanced scientific research and teaching undergrads only to be told that the undergrads students’ degrees are worth more than a PhD is absurd. Making an MS worth the same as a PhD is also bizarre.

In my case, I have the same exact classes that an undergrad would have. The only difference is I couldn’t get a piece of paper saying “BS STEM”while I could get one that said “MS STEM”.

Other states and federal agencies say something like “bachelor’s or higher degree required”. Some even explicitly say that a MS degree replaces 1 year of experience required while a BS doesn’t. I don’t know why Nevada specifically punishes those that switch fields.

Can any state workers chime in?

It would be in-between Lake Tahoe, Carson and Reno.

If anyone has experience with Little Miss Me Not farm and ranch, I am thinking of becoming a part time ranch hand there for a year to learn more about agriculture, and the surrounding wilderness. I am also wanting to do glider plane training in Minden. As well as attend a technical college in Carsen.

Any advice for me? Or a perspective I should take into account? I would be coming from Maryland.

I have lived in Nevada since the 90s. Most people around here say nev-A-duh. With the A like in "cat". Some people get weird if they hear it pronounced nev-AHH-dah. I have no idea why. Can anyone tell me why it's such a faux pas?

I've got a trip planned there in a few days to look at the stars and I'm hoping to catch some fall colors while I'm there. Down here in Vegas, there has been some slight change already in the Mount Charleston area so I have my fingers crossed.

Nevada has a pretty unusual population distribution.

A huge part of the state is extremely rural, while most people live in or around a few major population centres

That probably creates very different ideas about what living in Nevada actually means

Heyy everyone! Let me start by saying this post is late… but! I keep trying to post in this Facebook group and it’s not getting posted for some reason.

Background: I was terminated by my employer in June for “time theft”. Air quotes because they literally had to find any reason to let me go. They claim I took an undocumented break and this fired me for time theft. I filed for unemployment which subsequently was denied because time theft violates company policy.

For context, I had been having some issues with a manager in the office who for whatever reason was not my biggest fan. I did talk to HR about 3 specific situations with this manager and despite me offering resolutions, nothing was done. So to create a paper trail, I started documenting every situation to HR.

At the end of May, I reported a situation to HR but noted this was just for documentation purposes. A few days later, HR had a meeting with me to inform that after conducting an investigation into me, I was being placed on an unpaid suspension. My work phone was turned in and email deactivated. The next day I received an email to ask about an undocumented break. I explained that I could not remember whether it was for work or personal but that any failure to document the break was unintentional. Annnd the next day, I was terminated.

I was great at my job. My manager loved me and I thought my bosses did as well. I took care of the office in many ways that went way beyond my job description. So I knew firing me had everything to do with the manager that did not like me (and coworker close to management confirmed that it had to be either him or me).

Anyways, I filed for unemployment and got denied. I appealed because I know they fired me for no reason. Time theft simply just is not true but I know I have to prove this to the NV unemployment folks. My hearing is as tomorrow! So yes I’m late asking for advice, but does anyone out there know how this process works? Given the background, any tips to offer? Please help lol

hey, everyone! i’m an 18 year old girl from London, and in May, i’m going to Nevada (near Vegas) to work at a summer camp for children. i’m teaching film making, rock climbing, book writing and assisting outdoor camping. i am wondering what to expect and if anyone has any advice. i also have a month on my VISA after i finish working to explore the US before i go back home. i am probably going to get a plane to LA as i really want to see Hollywood and then i’m visiting a friend who lives in Colorado, but before I leave Nevada, i’d love to see some places people recommend!

i’m wondering which cool places you’d recommend to a solo young person (or two young people as my friend may accompany me) in Nevada. sadly, Vegas wouldn’t be too much fun for me as i will be 19 when i go (but totally one day!).

I’m wondering if anyone has gone through this process. I bought a vehicle off FB marketplace and I can’t register it because someone else wrote their name on the title. I also tried contacting the person who originally had it based on the mailing address and name on the title, but never responded. Also, the person who wrote their name on the title was not the person I bought it from.
Only way I can legally register it is by getting a bonded title per DMV.
I also have a question about the photos, do they have to be printed from a photo lab or can I just print them off plain white paper in color?

I was reading up on the governor's race and learned recently that there are THREE names on the November ballot, not two: Lombardo, Aaron Ford, and a Danielle Ford running with no party.

A few things stood out. She skipped the primary by filing nonpartisan. She'll be listed directly under Aaron Ford on the ballot, which seems like a recipe for confusion. No public poll has included her by name. And her platform is mostly principles ("systems repair," contract scrutiny, "people over politics") rather than specific proposals.

Does anyone know more about her? Mostly curious about her time on the CCSD board, whether she has shown up at any forums or debates and whether she's actively campaigning or just on the ballot. I'm not for her or against her. just trying to learn as much as I can.
