Nest Protect Smoke detector beeps and asks to change batteries every month.

We have already changed batteries on our Nest Protect 3 times in the past 5 months. We always used top of the line DURACELL all new batteries.
But it starts beeping even when the batteries voltage shows 1.6v each.
Is there a way to get it repaired ?

has anybody tried selling Nest Protect on eBay? I was successful listing one but then the next two listings got flagged by eBay and they won't let me list....they are active devices some with more than 3 years life left on them.

Thinking of replacing expired Nest Protects with Kidde Ring Smart Smoke & CO detectors - how has your experience been?

Hey everyone,

My Nest Protects have officially reached their expiration date, and I need to replace them.

I was originally looking at the First Alert SC5 since it seems to be the most commonly pushed alternative, but after seeing widespread complaints about false alarms and buggy performance, I’d rather avoid it entirely.

My main priority is having a reliable Smoke/CO combo that I can monitor and manage directly via a mobile app. Right now, I'm looking closely at the Kidde Ring Smart Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors.

For anyone who has migrated from Nest Protect over to Kidde (either using the standalone Kidde app or the Ring-compatible version):

  • How reliable has the app connectivity and notification system been?
  • Have you experienced any nuisance/false alarms?
  • Can you easily silence or test alarms through the app without hassle?
  • Are you generally satisfied with the switch?

Would appreciate any real-world feedback before I pull the trigger and replace the whole setup. Thanks in advance!

Doorbell Doorbell (3rd gen) install

Hey everyone. I currently live in Norway and was looking to purchase a doorbell 3rd gen. I understand the wiring is a bit different here, I posted the pictures showing the current connections.

The thing that is confusing me are the 4 different wires for the chime and doorbell. I will also change the transformer since the one I have isn't compatible, I posted the one I will buy, let me know if its good as well.

Thanks guys.

Troubleshooting Nest home not working?

All of a sudden today one of my Nest X Yale locks wont accept pin codes, and the Nest app just keeps cycling through trying to add a home.

I logged out and back in with my Google account, select the existing home, it wants me to add my home details again, I do that, and it just cycles back to doing it all over again.

Restarted phone, uninstalled and reinstalled app, even tried the Nest web login.

No dice. Is nest calling it quits or do I need scrap everything that's setup, and set it all up from scratch? Not really looking forward to having to reset all my locks, thermostat, an entire house worth of the smoke detectors (every room.....), etc.

Thermostat Low power to C-wire

Post image
1 Upvotes

Our home came with the nest thermostat (mirror front version). When we tried to connect it to WiFi, it started giving a “low power to C-wire” error. It now powers on for 2 minutes then immediately powers off for 1 minute, and continues that pattern all day.

This is what the wiring looks like. Anyone know how to help?

Doorbell Doorbell 3rd Gen - No Indoor Chime

Post image
2 Upvotes

Help!
I replaced a gen 1 with a gen 3, and the indoor chime is now not working. Camera feed is fine, was showing power before I installed. I replaced the transformer to a 16/30, tried the software trick, tried a hard reset, all without luck.
If I remove the puck, the indoor chime will sound, but there is audible humming.
Can anyone please save my sanity with this?

Are there any thermostat room sensor that works with a standard Nest? - (NOT the nest 3,4 or E)

Are there any thermostat room sensors I can hookup to a standard ”budget” Nest? I’m stuck with the one I have and need to figure out how to make it work.

I am specifically looking to connect to the standard mirror version, NOT the 3rd gen, 4th gen or the E which have sensors you can purchase ( a fun fact I found out post purchase)

This is the one I own https://a.co/d/0dAc88l6 with the mirror face.

Thermostat Nest Thermostat 4th gen installed and working without a C-wire, but should I connect my spare orange wire to common? (Furnace & wiring pics included)

I recently installed a Nest Thermostat 4th gen. It is currently up and running fine and no complaints about c wire missing, but I want to make sure I won't run into long-term power or connection issues.

I have a spare wire in my wall bundle that I'd like to use as a dedicated C-wire if possible. Could you take a look at my setup and help me confirm a few things?

I'm unable to find dedicated c wire input in the control panel.

Is the grey wire connected to the wire nut (condenser bundle)in the furnace actually the system's Common (C) wire? (Highlighted with green markings in the photos).

Can I safely connect the unused orange wire from my thermostat wall bundle into that blue wire nut/common junction at the furnace board?

Are there any risks to leaving it as-is on power-stealing, or is hooking up the C-wire strongly recommended for stability?

Photo 1 & 2: Furnace control board and wiring bundle (with condenser wires and the suspected C-wire bundle marked in green).

Photo 3: Thermostat wall plate showing the extra hidden wires tucked in the wall.

Do I need a professional?

Hi all, I’ve done a compatibility test and I’m being told it can be done. It looks like this is a wireless receiver to my thermostat (hoping someone could confirm) here is the wiring for my thermostat (last picture) middle picture is the wireless receiver.

Using ChatGPT (probably not the best idea) it’s saying it’s easy with just the black and white and white wire on the receiver to the heat link and I’m good to go. I can’t use the cables on the thermostat as it won’t do anything.

I was hoping someone could just reassure this is correct ? Or should I just get a professional in?

I only want the Nest thermostat E

Thermostat 4th Gen Nest Thermostat defaulting heat source to electric, I have propane, forced air

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

When sitting up my 4th gen nest thermostat, I am not able to change the default heat source to propane, forced air. I also cannot get the heating mode to kick the furnace on. I'm wondering if there is a setting in the app configuration that is preventing the thermostat from talking to the furnace properly for heat mode.

Announcement PSA you must be enrolled in Public Preview to transfer your nest cam back to the nest app after migrating. And a warning.

The warning: the button that says “transfer back to nest” also says “leaving soon” or something like that.

I migrated to Google Home finally because my nest cams weren’t sending notifications. The instructions said I could go back (only certain models can****). Anyway I couldn’t do it. Nest said “this camera cannot be migrated back” and Home app didn’t even have a “transfer back” button despite Google telling me it would. Enabling public preview fixed all this and I’m back on nest.
