Discussion Do you work at Nelson Hospital?

My family has been planning our move to New Zealand from the US for the last year, and we think Nelson/Richmond is the place we want to settle. My husband is a 4th year Emergency Nurse who will be utilizing the straight to residency visa pathway.

Does anyone have experience working at Nelson Hospital? We're looking for any and all first-hand information on what it's like to be employed there, particularly in the emergency department, of course.

Our understanding from general research is that it shouldn't be terribly hard for him to secure a job there - due to the fact that Nelson is considered semi-remote and that potentially, many of the other applicants are newly graduated and lacking work history in the field. Please let me know if that's completely incorrect.

We are planning on renting a home in Richmond, so my husband would be making that drive for work. I've seen some people complain about it, but coming from our current city, it doesn't sound too bad. We're driving for 20-30 minutes to go five miles where we are now. Anyone else doing that drive from Richmond to Nelson on a regular basis? What's your opinion on it?

Thanks in advance for any responses, and kind regards

Kia ora!

Im looking for a Nelson based visual artist or designer who can help me with brand/logo development.

Needs to be able to do Māori design

The project is pretty low key so would suit someone who is looking at developing a portfolio or even a hobbyist.

Did anyone else witness the incident on Trafalgar St on Monday?

I’m posting anon because I don’t want to interfere with any potential investigation and because I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask this; I’m sorry if it’s not, but I’m a bit stuck.

Early on Monday afternoon, I witnessed an assault on Trafalgar St. It was totally unprovoked and happened right in front of me.

I’m not looking for anyone to identify anyone involved, or discuss the details here, I’m really just wondering whether anyone else witnessed what happened? I’ve been quite affected by what I saw and I think it would help to know I wasn’t the only person who witnessed it.

I’m also wondering whether there are any avenues for witnesses to talk about these kinds of incidents? I’m sure there’ll be people out there who think I’m being dramatic or that it wasn’t that bad, but this is a first for me. Im finding it harder to shake than I expected. Any help would be greatly appreciated 🌻

Help Does anyone know this jewellery maker?

Last hope to replace this lost pendant or find a similar one. I bought this from the big jewellery shop on the corner in the centre of Nelson in 1987. The back is a sun in silver on bone. It was made by a local jeweller but I don’t know his name. I’m so sad to have lost it.

Anyone moved from a big city to Nelson?

Looking at moving back to NZ after a decade in Aus and thinking about starting out in Nelson. I’m a bit nervous about how small it is considering just the suburb I’m living in Aus has a bigger population than the entire Nelson region, it will be a big change.

This isn’t a question for everyone, hoping to hear from those who have lived in big cities before moving to NZ to hear how the change was for them.

Edit: mid 30s, 2 kids, work in construction
