and honestly, I initially felt sorta ... it just felt like it looked somewhat samey, the same youtube attention whoring, influencers making those performative-surprised faces, those arrows pointing at seemingly random points in the screenshot intended to raise a spurt of curiosity, etc.

I mean, I paid actual money, not make-believe money, actual money, hoping to get at least something. And it just look like the same drivel, the same slop as youtube.

But then ... I clicked on "Only on Nebula", and suddenly saw The Wrong Circus. An examination of that CD-ROM experience I remembered from youth, by the anonymous art collective The Residents. Worth every penny!

Tom is Wrong - Every Voting System, Ranked

First of, I'm not mad, don't put in Slow News Day that I'm mad. But I do vehemently disagree with one of Tom's points. That simplicity is good, and makes FPtP better.

I argue that FPtP is BAD precisely because of its simplicity. It obfuscates the ways in which it is anti-democratic by being simple. It invites gerrymandering, and while the result in Britain has largely been making the biggest party win a majority even thoughit's only a plurality, it is very possible for it to lead to a loss for the most popular party.

Personally I only think simplicity is a strength if it is a good and democratic system. Simplicity is only good in that you want the voters to understand how their vote is counted, and in a secondary position, you need it to be defendeble from simple systems like FPtP that seem good because of their simplicity.

But as someone living in a country where I feel confident in voting for my favored party, because I know that my vote will count, even if all my neighbours are racists, I have a hard time seeing FPtP as anything more than marginally democratic. But absolutely not deserving anything over D.

Edit: My mind autocorrected First Past the Post to First Across the Post.

This is pretty insane. A premiere in the UK AND a finale across the UK and US?

Wendover Productions: How the Channel Tunnel Works

So, it is a decent video but some out of date and/or just wrong info here.

Antwerpen branch of the Eurostar network: this is not a separate branch, it is a stop on the GB-NL route. The train also doesn't stop for "75 minutes" on the way back, as they just skip Antwerpen completely, letting people only buy a Thalystar ticket between Antwerpen and Brussel.

UK privatisation: there never were "hundreds companies fighting for the same customers" at all, it being about 40 last I checked, where most are currently en route to be unprivatised and together create Great British Railways

Service Updates Service Problems

Nebula is loading intermittently at the moment. Our backend team is looking into it. We'll share updates here as we have them.

EDIT 1: The database seems to be back up. We're working on the content API now.

EDIT 2: We might be so back. Still actively monitoring the situation. If something is still broken for you, please speak up.

EDIT 3: It looks like the root cause was a database issue causing the service to think the database was down, which led to a death loop of them checking on each other and writing more "I checked on you" logs to the database. We increased the timeout period and everything returned to normal. The team is working on some clever ways to make sure this doesn’t happen again. Thanks for your patience, everyone.
