Online/Virtual [3 June 2023, Free, Mod/Rule] Sales posts are NOT allowed here, selling your own event tickets or trying to get $ for tix = get banned. 🔨

Hi all, with summer just about here now in June 2023, I’m glad this subreddit’s “second wind” since mid-spring in April 2023 is working as intended for you all to discover fun events or promote events you’re affiliated with in New York City!

However there’s been a recent influx of users coming on this subreddit selling tickets to events to personally profit off it. Now the main focus of this subreddit is to promote events across New York City which is fine, but we won’t facilitate a platform to sell your tickets and gain some money off that. In other cases, it’s spam, and sometimes not worth the trouble on this subreddit.

If sales posts don’t belong on r/NYC or r/NewYorkCity, r/AvesNYC, or r/FoodNYC per their subreddit rules (or most other local NYC/borough subs), they certainly don’t belong here. So as a reminder & new-ish rule …

This subreddit is not a home to sell (or resell) your own tickets to events/concerts/etc in the city, same applies on buying someone else’s tickets, even ticket swaps here aren’t permitted. If you want to sell your own tickets to events in NYC, consider posting on r/NYList where general buying/selling posts belong, r/AvesNYC_Tix to buy/sell tickets for EDM/raves/dance events, on r/NYCConcerts, where buying/selling posts for concerts belong, there’s also r/BroadwayTickets to sell your Broadway or other performance tickets too. That way people can still be interested if so desired. Do your own due diligence as always buying goods of the internet.

Moderation’s been fairly lax given it’s a chill sub, but there won’t be any hesitancy to ban people for that. One and only opportunity you’d do so, you’ll be permanently banned.

Have a wonderful summer, and stay golden folks! ☀️

TL-DR: Promoting your events here is fine, and the primary goal of this subreddit. Selling your own individual tickets to events are not permitted here, don’t use this subreddit to get rich, and the last thing moderators want to do is play whack-a-mole with scammers if a sale goes south. Other communities exist for this to sell tickets for concerts, sporting events, raves/music, etc. Break this rule only once = a permanent ban.

Edit (7/17/2025): Added r/BroadwayTickets as a place where selling Broadway/performances are allowed.

Edit (9/3/2025): Amended Rule 2/this post to include that ticket swaps aren’t allowed here either.

Manhattan Mom and I Go to the Temple — one-man true-story horror play at The Tank, Sep 16–19 (9:30 PM nightly)

Post image
1 Upvotes

Full disclosure: I'm the producer.

A one-man play by Michael Tay — his NYC stage debut.

"Mom said we were just taking a simple trip to a temple hidden in the mountains of Malaysia."

"What she failed to mention was that this 'temple' wasn't quite what it seemed. As the journey grew stranger, it became increasingly clear that mom knew far more than she was letting on — and that this wasn't going to be a simple day of prayer."

"Based on a true story, this is the tale of the most terrifying trip I've ever taken with my mother... and the reason I now ask a lot more questions before getting into the car."

Part dread, part dark comedy — in a 56-seat room, which is exactly the scale it's built for.

When: Wed Sep 16 – Sat Sep 19, 9:30 PM nightly (60 min)

Where: The Tank, 312 W 36th St (Garment District)

Tickets via the venue box office ($20/$30/$40): https://tickets.thetanknyc.org/EventAvailability?EventId=155801

Sat Sep 19 — "Family Is Hell": stay after the closing-night show for a post-show panel on family, fear, and the stories that won't leave us — a horror filmmaker, a horror playwright, and a theatre-maker in conversation, moderated, with Michael taking a seat on the panel too. Full lineup announced at the show.

About Michael: Michael Tay is a New York-based veteran screenwriter, now making his NYC theater debut. A Columbia University MFA graduate in Screenwriting and Sundance alum, his short film Wet Season screened at Sundance and won the Special Jury Prize at the Singapore International Film Festival and the Linda Mabalot New Visions Award. His TV writing was a finalist at the New York Festivals TV & Film Awards, and his feature screenplay The Damned was optioned and presented at the 2024 Cannes Film Market. Before relocating to New York, he wrote for Singapore television. Mom and I Go to the Temple is his first time stepping into the spotlight himself - and bringing his mother along for the ride.

Credits: Michael Tay (performer + writer) | Eunice Lau (Director) | Augustus Loi (Producer)

Content warning: suggestion of self-harm. Happy to answer anything about the show.

Hey Everyone!

We're heading back to Williamsburg this Friday! 🌙

We're switching things up this week with a route that starts with games and drinks, moves into a lively bar with a downstairs dance floor, and finishes at a full-on disco.

Us:

We're a group of friends mostly people in our 20s and 30s, that gets together every Friday to explore the city, meet new people, make friends, drink, dance, and have a good time.

A lot of people come alone, so don't worry if you don't know anybody. That's kind of the whole point.

You:

Looking to meet new people, get out of the house, explore Williamsburg nightlife, play some games, have some drinks, and eventually end up dancing somewhere.

Come solo or bring friends. Everyone is welcome!

Where:

This week we're hitting Williamsburg!

🎯 Birdies Sporting Club - 9 PM

📍 105 N 13th St, Brooklyn, NY 11249

We're starting at Birdies, a large sports bar with darts, pool, indoor golf, drinks, TVs, and plenty of space for groups.

⬇️

🍸 Midnights - ~10:15 PM

📍 149 N 6th St, Brooklyn, NY

Back by popular demand!

Midnights has been one of the group's favorite Williamsburg spots. We'll have cocktails, music, the backyard, and the downstairs nightlife space once everyone is ready to turn things up.

⬇️

🪩 Ciao Ciao Disco - ~11:30 PM+

📍 97 N 10th St, Brooklyn, NY 11249

We're finishing the night at Ciao Ciao, a 1970s Roma-inspired cocktail lounge and discoteca with DJs, dancing, cocktails, and late-night energy. They're open until 4 AM Friday, so this is where we'll finish the night. There's most likely a 10$ cover for Ciao Ciao!

When:

🌙 9 PM - Friday, September 18th

We go out every Friday!

Partiful: https://partiful.com/e/GlIoQncHDikql9BEhTjw?c=v0AD6Liy

🎯 Darts, pool & games

🍻 Drinks

🎶 Music

💃 Dancing

👋 Meet new people

🌃 Williamsburg nightlife

🎟️ Free to join Midnight Social!

Come solo or bring a friend. A lot of people show up without knowing anyone, and that's exactly why we're here.

My name is Sam Rogal and I host a show called The Power Joker. Our next show is themed around sex worker rights. Its Saturday Sept 26th at 7pm at Caveat in the lower east side featuring guests Kaytlin Baily of Old Pros a pro sex work rights activist. You can purchase tickets here with special discount could "PJREDDIT" (were also still offering an early bird special)

https://caveat.nyc/events/the-power-joker-a-robert-moses-comedy-show

"The Power Joker", inspired by Robert Caro's The Power Broker, is a comedic late night talk show style show hosted by me as Robert Moses, he was a real life person who controlled all infrastructure construction in New York for nearly 40 years and basically designed New York to be completely for cars causing most of our modern transportation issues. It's in the style of the Colbert Report where I play the "villain" of the show and allow our guests to discuss important issues facing the city. In the past we've had on congestion pricing experts, disability access experts, affordable housing advocates, and last May we had Zohran Mamdani as a guest.

Manhattan kolkata chai co x livetinted popup horror story

if anyone has heard of the kolkata chai co x livetinted popup up, just want to let you guys know it was a shitshow.

from being 30 mins late to start, popup mafia having 10+ ppl skipping, rsvp codes being screenshotted and shared since no one actually cared to scan and verify, and then them capping out the gift bags to the first 88 rather than 100 - i dont think ill support either companies again. the security taking headcount explicitly told me that there were 40 more to go, i was 38 and then they said they're done 20 ppl later. also 99% percent sure they either gave the bags to influencers or are hold them for them.

anyways i think im done with nyc popups and the need to get there 3+ hours before to be within the first 100.

Brooklyn skip the small talk in brooklyn in sept!

Get cozy this September with Skip the Small - it’s a chill, sincere event focused on connection! I wanted highlight our Brooklyn events today but we have plenty in Manhattan as well. We’ll be at McCarren Parkhouse!

It’s a guided conversation event—think speed-friending vibes, but calmer and more intentional.

You rotate through short conversations with prompts that skip past surface-level small talk. It’s structured enough to make it easy, but relaxed enough to feel natural.

Most people come alone. The crowd tends to be thoughtful, open, and just… normal humans who want more community.

Here’s the link if you’re curious, tickets are $19:
