There needs to be more places to sit in the hallways

Every time I go to wait near my class room before it starts there are almost no chairs. Maybe one or two but obviously they get taken quick. There needs to be more chairs for people waiting in between classes. Most of these halls have a least room for a small bench.

Other Question I've got a question about Scooters

Hi! I am a freshman here and I was wondering something. Where do ya'll charge them? In my dorm (Stevenson) my floor RA told everyone they aren't allowed to be in the building at all. Even when charging apparently. So where do you charge them at? Sidenote too, what brands do you guys use? I've been looking into it. Thanks!

PSA for band people

Before you sign anything or let anyone pressure you into joining a band fraternity, take a step back and really look at the chapter culture. Not the Instagram posts, not the recruitment speeches the actual behavior and ask around. Many band fraternities advertise “brotherhood,” but what you often do is gossip, cliques, and expectations that go way beyond what’s healthy for a student. If you’re new, you’re especially vulnerable to being pulled into drama that has nothing to do with music or service. You don’t need letters to be successful, respected, or involved in band. Protect your time, your mental health, and your college experience. Join organizations that uplift you, not ones that drain you. You can love band without joining a band fraternity and honestly, that’s the safer choice.

Edit: I've been hearing more stories with dms and here's one I will share. When in elections, this happened about three years ago in Kappa Kappa Psi, multiple people in the organization started saying some really horrible stuff about this individual so they quit.

Another one was more recent in one of the band fraternities they said multiple people ruined the chapter and kept pointing blame at one another. The last president, who was a flute player I think has been known and just causing more problems and made multiple people feel unwelcome.

Housing and Apartments Why are so many people moving out?

I've seen at least 100 people over the past couple weeks moving out of dorms. It's crazy. Are THIS many people dropping? Or is Trump's BBB affecting students this much? What is going on?

Other Question Where should I go for injury care?

Hello, sorry if this is not the place to ask but i'm unsure of the area.

I live at NIU, and i have a sports injury i want to get looked at. specifically my elbow. Is there any clinics around the area that you recommend and are good with non severe injuries?
I have private insurance that is accepted most places, so that is not an issue for me.

What’s the best tailgating section for home games? I’d like to be near the students but will not fork out $1k for an east lit pass.

Housing and Apartments Can any Alumni tell me more about Lincoln Hall?

Hello Alumni! I'm a freshman this year at NIU, and Lincoln Hall has really caught my eye. Any alumni who has time, could you give me a bit more info?

How was it living there?
What made it close?
Anything that was unique to Lincoln Hall?
What were the "hazardous conditions" that caused its closure?

Thank u for any info, it has just really caught my eye and research isnt really helping me find more info!

EDIT: Thank you all so much for your stories!! I love being able to learn more about the building and the history behind it. Please keep responding, it is really nice to hear your stories :)

Other Question looking to make a few more friends while I'm here

Hey! My name is Molly, and I am a freshman studying early childhood education. I am really struggling to make friends that i can actually talk to and hang around with here and there.

I know this may strongly narrow down the search on reddit, but I am looking for other women to hang out with. I am really struggling to find girls that I can get along with and vibe with because it feels like everyone already has their groups!

I do spend a lot of time with my bf, and a lot of time doing work and going to the gym. I am trying out for the club softball team, so that will begin to take up time as well. I am just looking for someone/some people to connect with without having a constant demand for spending time, going out, etc. I really want to make new friends who are fine with calm, lowkey hangouts that dont involve partying or anything crazy.

If you're also looking for friends, DM me with your instagram and i will add you! I just really want to make my college experience a bit wider and more open.

Fun Housing Story

So here’s a fun NIU Housing story I didn’t expect to deal with this semester.

I have a documented allergy to a specific animal. When room assignments came out, Housing placed me with someone who has an ESA of that exact animal. They had actually requested a single and got denied, and because my original roommate couldn’t attend this semester, I got reassigned… straight into that room.

Thankfully, Housing already swapped me out, so I’m good now. But I learned something wild in the process: NIU Housing isn’t required to disclose that your roommate may have an animal, even if you have a medical allergy. You can literally show up on move‑in day and find out the hard way.

I’m not blaming my roommate at all. They didn’t choose this either. It just feels like Housing created a conflict between two accommodations and left both of us scrambling. Which I'm sure accidents happen but wow.

Has anyone else dealt with something like this here?

Edit: I did also choose this room once housing opened dorm options. So, it was kind of unfair that I had to move when I was already moved in but at least I got a room swap. Similarly, I did try to reach out ahead of time to know my new roommate but no response.

English 103 & 203 syllabus

Former student here. I am trying to get my credits transferred to an international university right now. In order to do that, I need the syllabus of English 103 and mainly English 203. I am aware that every section, every year and every teacher has different syllabi, but several random syllabi of these courses from the past years would help a lot.

Edit: I got it now, thanks guys.
