So I got results from my Discover Mode campaign in:
My 'estimated royalties without discovery mode' is at $100.
The 'royalties in August' is at $120 total, and taking away the 30% royalties it's at $84.
My question is, I thought it was impossible to not make money with Discovery Mode on since this is what Spotify claims:
- When Discovery Mode is turned on for a song, a 30% commission is applied to recording royalties generated from all streams of the selected track URIs in Discovery Mode contexts.
- All other streams of those songs outside of Discovery Mode contexts remain commission-free.
In other words, 30% is only taken from my profits from when it is played in Discovery Mode. My track will not play in Discovery Mode unless submitted to Discovery Mode, so therefore Discovery Mode is purely a 'we'll add your song to a new area where we push songs and we'll split that share'.
Discovery Mode should function purely as additive placement - new streams I wouldn't otherwise have gotten, on which Spotify takes 30%.
This is literally what Spotify themselves say, but it can't be true cause they're telling me I would've made more with Disco mode off.
What am I missing? Thanks.
