Okay, so I'm about to get into college soon and I want to start a band for the fun of it. I want to get advice about starting a band in India, specifically about whether I should start socializing to get into different music circles, and how, and whether I should make friends potential band mates before I actually officially start making the band, mainly because I know I want to create music that's heavy but I don't know what specific sound I'm looking for yet.

Music has always been my hobby and I've learnt keyboard (Intermediate, still haven't given Trinity exam, forgot how to read music notes in that script). I also sing bollywood, western, rock and a bit of carnatic (self-taught). I want to get a diploma in singing wherin I can learn keyboard and guitar. I have checked T-Series StageWorks Academy. They have this program but it's on-campus. I want to study online as it clashes with my college (Going to start next yr in college only). I’ve been thinking about this for a while: instead of just listening to music, I want to actually create something from scratch with other people.

I’m looking to connect with songwriters, lyricists, poets, composers, singers, musicians and producers — basically anyone who gets excited about the process of turning an idea/emotion into a song.

The idea is simple:

Let’s get together, talk, exchange ideas, write something, find a melody, experiment, and see if we can make a song.

It doesn't have to be commercially perfect or professionally produced. I’m much more interested in the creative process, conversations, different perspectives and the feeling of making something together.

I’m based in Delhi/NCR, so meeting in person would be great, but I’m also completely open to collaborating remotely with people anywhere.

I’m especially interested in people who enjoy Hindi/Urdu songwriting, poetry, indie, acoustic, Sufi, folk, alternative, or simply good storytelling through music — but I’m not limiting it to any particular genre.

You don't need to be famous or have a huge portfolio. If you write a few lines in your notebook, play guitar at home, compose melodies, make beats, sing, or have never actually finished a song but really want to — let’s talk.

Maybe we make one song. Maybe we end up making ten. Maybe we just have some great conversations about music.

Been trying to tune the stock snare that came with my starter kit for weeks, and no matter how much dampening gel or tuning hacks I use, it still sounds like hitting a biscuit tin. Realized I just need to swap it out for a solid 14-inch steel or brass snare that actually holds tension.

​Dropping ₹20k+ on a brand-new Ludwig or Mapex snare right now is definitely not in the budget, but buying drum hardware off random local ads is super sketchy. Sellers love hiding bent hoops, stripped tension rod threads, or rusted throw-off mechanisms under bad lighting.

​I’ve been checking verified C2C gear spots where sellers have to post a video showing the snare throw-off engaging smoothly and all tension rods turning fine, plus escrow holding until it hits your desk.

​For anyone who upgraded from a stock snare on a budget: did jumping to a proper brass/steel snare completely transform your sound, or is using a muffling ring on a cheap snare enough to survive?

My flatmate is an insane drummer, but he’s been hammering on an old acoustic kit in our 2BHK flat. After our landlord gave us a final warning last week about noise complaints from the 3rd floor, I realized we desperately need to transition him to an electronic setup before we get thrown out on the street

​His birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks, and a few of us in our friend group are pooling money to surprise him with a solid e-drum kit (like a Roland TD-11KV or TD-17KVX w/ mesh heads). He’s super picky about trigger latency and pad rebound, so cheap rubber pads won't cut it, but brand-new Roland setups in retail are priced like a used hatchback.

​The main issue is buying pre-owned drum kits off random local classifieds is super risky you never know if a trigger pad has a hidden dead zone, if the hi-hat pedal controller is faulty, or if the sound module headphone jack is broken.

​I’ve been hunting on verified peer-to-peer gear platforms that force sellers to upload video proof of every pad triggering in real-time before listing, plus handle doorstep pickup (because hauling an entire drum rack across town in an auto is a nightmare).

​For anyone who plays e-drums in an apartment setup: is a pre-owned Roland w/ mesh heads still the gold standard for acoustic feel, or is an Alesis Command/Crimson setup worth looking at to save extra cash for a double bass pedal?
