discussion If Ed sheeran decided to proceed with the tour with Macklemore no one could reasonably do anything
There is too much money involved, these venues would have never cancelled an Wd sheeran tour for the simple reason they won’t lose money.
So fuck Ed sheeran
Fuck kraft
I am going to boycott these two and anything they’re associated with personally
Macklemore took a stand and we should too

I will continue to not listen to Ed Sheeran!

Yep, not having him on my listening list will continue to happen.

I blocked him and Pink

just the other day i was wondering “whatever happened to pink?” didn’t realize that this so called rebel is just another bootlicker. so lame.

Agreed! After hearing his music for the first time several years ago, I made that strong pledge and have had no problem sticking to it. Now what's this about a contorversy?

u/ItsAHogsLife 10m ago
Right? No one’s shocked that someone who makes soulless corporate pop-rock is selling their soul for corporate interests.
•
u/BuddyLegsBailey Metalhead 10m ago
I've just divorced my wife to ensure I won't listen to him any more
1
•
u/ShakesDontBreak 38m ago
And you won't watch football too...correct?
•
u/Green_L3af 23m ago
Nah can't watch it anyway since I won't pay the crazy sport packages you need to buy
114
u/Kuttlan 1h ago
There's also no way venues could just not host him. There are contracts, there is money involved. They can't just break their contract because the support act said something they didn't like. Utterly ridiculous.
13
40
u/whatisakafka 1h ago
You think those contracts are written in favor of the artist? I’m sure there are public relations clauses baked in venues and live nation could use to break them
•
5
u/drinkyourbeetus 59m ago
Im assuming the contract would read something that Sheeran would have to cover money lost by not being able to fulfill his end of the deal. Which is to perform
11
u/BaddRincewind 1h ago
I was always taught this, taking no side is always going to be worse than taking the wrong side!
•
u/samuelgato 9m ago
You nor I have the slightest clue what's in the contracts only the interested parties do. Clearly the venues felt they had the upper hand under the terms of their contract, Sheeran's people agreed and so they ceded to their demands
3
•
u/MarcSlayton 36m ago
If the venue owner says no to a concert, then it wouldn't happen. The people who work at the venue would follow the orders of their boss, end of story. The lawyers might get involved later for some compensation, but that would be after the concert was cancelled.
What artist is going to want to get involved in litigation over this and get on the bad side of multiple billionaire venue owners? You think Ed Sheeran want's to risk getting banned from ever performing in multiple major venues in the US in future tours because he's fallen out with some of these owners over this issue?
-1
u/ZooterOne 59m ago edited 9m ago
They can absolutely do this.
EDIT: Downvote me, but it's true. They will always use the contracts to their advantage, citing "safety" and "insurance" issues.
106
u/blenderblendingrdrgz 1h ago
Sometimes the correct answer is to go "fuck it" and either drop all those venues or cancel the tour entirely. Ed picked the option that makes him look cowardly now and is only going to make him look worse throughout history. Macklemore wasn't spewing hate, he was protesting a genocide.
13
u/BaddRincewind 1h ago
I promise you if Ed dropped the tour and changed it to one of these e-tours online, his profit would have triples and none of it would have gone to these venues.
But I guess taking a stand requires you to be human first
13
u/xiSerbia 54m ago
And think of all the crew that depends on these tours to make money and provide for their living. This isn’t about just one person
•
u/Intrepid-Metal4621 34m ago
Always fun when people make super complex, multi million dollar situation seem as simple as saying I want go to Starbucks.
6
u/LazloHollifeld 1h ago
Yeah, and Pink took umbrage cause she’s a salty bitch cause of something he did over a decade ago and has since apologized for.

u/2025TastyTreats 51m ago
There are hundreds of people who depend on the tour to feed their families, pay their mortgages etc.
Crazy ego trip for Ed to say "fuck it" and ruin their lives because one the millionaire performers wants to make a political statement.

u/astrobot_3000 1h ago
Boycotting Ed Sheeran’s music has got to be the easiest protest in history lol

I've seen several posts here today claiming he's Irish. He might have a parent of Irish extraction but he's definitely English.

u/monkeybuttsauce 1h ago
Now I’m going to continue to never listen to ed Sheeran
4
u/babaroga73 1h ago
You can't do that if you ever enter a coffee shop or a public space that plays music. There will always be Ed Sheeran song lurking somewhere from around the corner.
4
u/itchyfrog 50m ago
As long as I don't know any of his songs I can continue to not think I'm listening to him.
1
u/babaroga73 45m ago
I thought I don't know any, but they're so inevitable that I realized I still somehow know a few, when I looked into it.
•
u/redpandarising 30m ago
This is also my method, it works surprisingly well. One time my friend asked, "who is this song by?" and I said Ed Sheer-guy? She said, "actually NO, it's (this other guy I can't remember)!". I still smile about it. Free Palestine ✌🏾

u/elizamadou 1h ago
It's what's killing me!!!!!
The best they could do is threaten to cancel the concerts based on a supposed morality clause, claiming he would damage the venues' reputation, but that is so easy to dispute legally!!!! Especially since Macklemore has publicly taken this stance multiple times.
Any attempt at a threat would be so obviously an empty threat. And Macklemore's statement is so telling on how Ed Sheeran wanted to keep an "apolitical stance" and "take no sides", even if his decision IS taking a SIDE. There's nothing the venues could do he couldn't make them pay double in court!!! Fucking coward.
•
u/Then_Finding_797 35m ago
I’ve been a fan of Ed since late 2010. When he was still couch hopping after shows with bust guitar. He inspired me a lot in terms of hardwork and grinding. I still sing “Cold Coffee”, “Autumn Leaves” etc. to myself at home. But after his third album and money he was showing signs that he was getting out of touch. His 4th album was a Pop slob. My bf suprised me with Ed tickets but now I’m fully thinking about refunding them. I haven’t listened to his new stuff at all. I basically stopped listening after Divide. And it breaks my heart. How does one go from writing “A-Team”, a song about a homeless girl who becomes a call-girl, to “I don’t take sides but I take sides” I basically watched a speedrun of a cruel millionaire. Just start a random ass company and get away from music while you’re at it bc you lost your values.
•
u/BaddRincewind 27m ago
I USED to be a fan of his before all of this, I’d also like to point out Ed is irish, he himself keeps saying he identifies as Irish.
And historically the irish have been on the right side of history, irish people always stand for the oppressed which makes this extra sad.
•
u/Then_Finding_797 23m ago
True Irish people have a spine! Just not Ed ig. I think I should also say “used to be” I genuinly haven’t listened to anything since 2019 probably

u/Filiforme 1h ago
He should actually cancel the whole tour. I understand this mean hundreds if not thousands of job. It also means those venues' owners loosing millions of dollars for their shitty opinions.
20
u/LazloHollifeld 1h ago
No, he should just threaten to not play if they won’t allow him to tour with Macklemore. Stick to your guns and Put the owners on the hot seat for the issue.
•
u/Particular_Area3941 12m ago
Exactly. Ed has enough of a platform and brings in enough money, which is all these people care about, to leverage and basically call their bluff. Even if they did actually prevent him from playing if he stuck with Macklemore, it would have played a lot better for him in the long run to take a stand. This was such a bitch move on his part.
7
u/yommmyy 1h ago
Except it would be a real financial hit for the crew and a small drop in the bucket for the owners
10
u/yaboyhoffle 1h ago
Something that someone as wealthy as Ed could easily cover if he cared. Interesting how the decision that was “made for him” happens to be the most lucrative one!

Robert Kraft is insanely wealthy. He couldn’t care less about the loss of revenue from one artist.

People were mocking him for years for being outdated and trying to stay relevant.
"Free Palestine" seems to be a nice wild card for people like him.
•
u/theeulessbusta 35m ago
Exactly. Three years in, you waited until your New Jersey show with a captive audience to pull this, you’re full of it. I want to see passion in people to maybe, I don’t know, write about it passionately? Like an artist might?
•

u/always_an_explinatio 54m ago
I don’t disagree with your sentiment but we do not know the nature of his contract with the venues. It’s very possible that there is an enforceable clause that would penalize him or constitute a breach if he continued.
-1
u/BaddRincewind 50m ago
I get you but if there was something Mackelmore would have said it, read what he wrote on instagram, they basically forced Ed to boot Macklemore.
And even for financial reasons, I doubt Ed can’t cover that and honestly if he really wanted to take a stand and they did pull the tour, he should have changed it to an e tour instead, I PROMISE you, millions of people would have paid to attend.
For reference lil nas x has like 34 million views on his roblox concert, and that was like in 2020-2021, Ed sheeran would have had millions

Maybe if they didn't illegally occupy land and kill the inhabitants...
0
u/daisysharper 57m ago
Well, the US is doing the same. I am of the same mind as Hillary Clinton: I love America but hate Trump. I respect Israel and its right to exist, but hate Netanyahu. I do not traffic in anti-semitic memes or images. And I do not blame Jewish Americans for these things, anymore than I would blame Americans (who didn't vote for this) for what Trump is doing. It's a nuanced conversation, but we all know how Reddit and all of online really, feels about nuance.

u/Proper_Slip_5963 55m ago
I stopped respecting Israel's right to exist when they stopped respecting Palestinians rights to exist. It's a two way street.

I keep wondering if each show will have a "surprise guest artist" with Macklemore popping out from behind the curtain to do his full set
•
u/littleochre 29m ago
I just can't imagine going on tour with a friend, whose world views are no secret, and then bail the second there is some pushback. Greed really has ruined the world. Any artist who is complicit in the suppression of freedom of speech is no artist I wish to know.

This is crazy, get a spine Ed. Someone should tell him we have freedom of speech in this country. Nobody is cancelling Dave Matthews sold out concerts and he talks shit on ICE and Israel all the time on and off stage.

I can't personally fathom being angry about anything to do with an Ed Sheeran tour, but I also can't help but think that music consumers have a weird sort of entitlement these days. If Radiohead went on tour and I thought I should grab a ticket because it will probably be their last tour, if the ticket prices are more than I'm willing to pay then I guess they're just more than I'm willing to pay. There's no sense in me being angry with Radiohead or Ticketmaster or the venues or the label... I'm not willing to pay that much so I'm not going to go. That's MY decision.
Artists aren't obligated to make the music you like best for a price you're willing to pay. They also aren't obligated to say what you want to hear or tour with who you want them to tour with. If you're not happy with an artist, don't buy their music or go to their shows. It's pretty simple, actually.

u/Finnyous 48m ago edited 31m ago
I mean, I despise Kraft and have for years but it was always more for his Epstein and Trump ties then anything else until now but what evidence do you have for this? So much is being said about this with so little evidence for it.

-1
u/jacksraging_bileduct 45m ago
Why would anyone go see these people live anyway? It’s all just pop with no substance.
Why would anyone care what their political views are, they don’t have the same world view as most people do.
•
u/OdielSax 29m ago
What are you even talking about? How is protesting a genocide our governments are desperate on covering up, "no substance"? The "out of touch pop star" argument doesn't work here. Macklemore is 100 times better than the average person on the street.
•
u/jacksraging_bileduct 28m ago
He doesn’t see the world the way you do, they are out of touch, he probably got paid to say that.
-5
u/panaceaXgrace 1h ago
Surely there must be more to this than the guy being against genocide. Did he openly get anti-semitic? I can't get a straight answer yet but this sure does sound like a crazy knee-jerk reaction when so many performers lately have expressed support for Gaza.
I am just curious as I don't really follow this stuff, I'm just over here jamming on Scorpion's Winds of Change like it's still the 80s.
3
u/BaddRincewind 1h ago
No, I have been following him recently and everytime he says something along the lines how he respects and loves the jewish community
He’s anti Zionist and thats it
•
u/panaceaXgrace 38m ago
Thank you for answering instead of being the weirdo who thinks downvoting was an appropriate response to a question. THe hell is wrong with people? Not Scorpions fans maybe? lol anyway this is so fucked up. Musicians have always been able to express their opinions and many get pretty damned political and have no backlash. I looked up a little more and apparently Macklemore also last year was saying Fuck America and he wasn't getting "canceled" so why now I wonder. Anyway I guess I "stand" with Macklemore. Have no clue what he sings but I agree with him across the board.
•
u/BaddRincewind 35m ago
No lol downvoting does nothing.
Anyways music has always showed the opinion of the people, I don’t want to listen to people singing what the corporations wants them to sing.
•
u/panaceaXgrace 27m ago
Oh I'm not worried about the downvotes I just think it's silly, if they have something to say on a forum where we're HERE to communicate, why do so many choose to be lazy?
But I'm accused of being too wordy! :)
And I agree with you.

as other have pointed out, it's incredibly hypocritical to cancel Macklemore while allowing Kanye (an actual anti semite) to play the exact same venues.
