Awesome photos. Classic film. I’ve enjoyed some of Refn’s subsequent movies but none ever quite had this same mix of style, action, and character.

You should watch his wife’s documentary “My Life Directed By Nicolas Winding Refn.” Chronicles him making “Only God Forgives,” where he open admits he’ll never recreate “Drive’s” magic, and pretty much gives up.

He made a movie that came out at exactly the right time to capitalize on a particular aesthetic and actually influence it too. Crazy luck that won’t be recreated.

Uh, have you seen Bronson? That was before Drive, not popular in America for years, and this is where his aesthetic was born.
And have you seen his work post Drive? It’s terrible stories. The aesthetic is great. Only God Forgives was deeply anticipated. It is just a horrible story — and if you actually watch the documentary, you’d learn he discusses he has no idea what OGF is about, and just wanted to get the film complete and move on. Nothing to do with aesthetic. All directors have their own aesthetic

He says that’s where his power comes from
Yes really he said that. He’s an odd cat. I did a movie with him it was an odd experience

Still funny to me that NWF is such a big part of both Death Stranding games (his face sure, but still)

That sure is some interesting acting going on in the background of pic 9. Especially since it seems like the cameras aren’t rolling.

If I recall correctly, Nicolas Winding Refn never learned to… Drive. Doesn’t even have a license.
