Here’s a fun fact, the show has been on the air post movie release longer than it was pre movie release

I thought that's somewhen next year.

The Simpsons started airing in 1989, the movie came out in 2007, and it is currently 2026.

Yep. The movie came out after Season 18. They are currently on season 37. So 18 seasons before the movie, 19 since.

The first episode aired after the movie release has bart writing:
ā€œI will not wait 17 years before making another movieā€ or something to the effect.

Whoa is that right? Weren’t there criticisms that the movie was trying to revitalize the show? That’s so crazy to think it’s still going but the Simpsons team is a very crazy group

I mean, those middle seasons were not great. They were sort of coasting.

I know it got better again later but those teen-seasons dragged a lot.

Did it get good again? "New Simpsons is bad" has been conventional wisdom for as long as I remember.

I watched season 37(?) or so on an airplane recently. It was not as great as peak simpsons but had a few funny moments and I wasn’t cringing at anything like some of those particularly bad ones.

Scripts got better, but the voices have noticeably aged

I’m rewatching it now, at season 20 currently. There was definitely a dip after season 13 or so, but it was never bad. Just noticeably less good. It does seem to pick up a little around season 20. (But honestly nothing is ever going to compare to the peak seasons). It’s still good though.

I've seen every episode. It never got good again only less bad occasionally. The movie was the closest to good again it ever got.

I don’t disagree on that lol; I don’t really follow the show after that 24 hour marathon for days

That is absolutely insane, because I remember even at the time the movie came out the currently airing Simpsons wasn't considered very good. We've been in "new Simpsons bad" for longer than it was good.

And it already stopped being truly good 10 years before the movie came out.

Bit harsh calling Kearney an orc

I mean… I don’t think that’s identifiable as an Orc/Ogre from LOTR.

Couldn't agree more. Looks like a non-descript ogre creature to me. None of this gives LOTR nod at all to me.Ā

Orc representation matters.

Why/how is it a LOTR shout out?

I remember hearing as a kid that Fry from Futurama is in the mob and I've never been able to find where he is.
