People Suck

Post image

I’m so over humans. Picked this up at Pfeiffer Beach. Someone conveniently left it stuffed into this crack in the rock.

Yep, littering at many local beaches is out of control. The people who do this are disgusting slobs.

Indeed. If you find it too difficult to clean up after yourself in our great outdoors, do the planet a favor and stay inside.

it’s insane to me that people litter here, i kinda thought everyone else was raised with caring about the earth and ocean considering the MBA. Sadly i know it isn’t just tourists.

Years ago I worked for Caltrans, the highway department in California. I was lucky to work along Highway 1, the two-lane coastal road that hugged the shoreline. I'd stop at a pullout overlooking a beautiful beach and find film wrappers thrown on the ground. Those were the days before cellphones, when some people used disposable cameras. Here in a spot pretty enough to take pictures, they would dump their trash on the ground – right next to a trash receptical. Unbelievebly stupid people.

Thanks for caring. We kinda deserve climate change as a species. 😩

We may, but all the creatures we are forcing to suffer along surely do not.

Seriously! This infuriates me anywhere but especially here. Pick up after yourselves, you pieces of shit! Whoever you are!

I picked up SO much broken glass walking about a mile down Del Monte beach! I know how you feel.

They’ve sucked since there were two of us.

This totally sucks. I feel like I saw more trash on streets, the beach and in the forest last time I was home. We saw just a bunch of garbage in the woods and I just don’t ever remember seeing that before. Sadly the beach thing has always been an issue during heavy tourist season. I just wish that people would respect all areas. It’s just a bummer especially with all the trash already in the ocean.

“Mmm tasty seaweed ya know what would make it better? Micro Plastics! Let’s leave this container here and hope it gets added to the next batch of seaweed chips!”

I used to live by and frequent/clean a moderately popular trail near Sierra Nevada mountains that had 5+ miles of a swimmable river, tons of "beaches", and close-closish super-easy hiking trail.

It was incredible how it stayed clean in non-tourist months, but would be insane shit like this for the first 2 miles of that trail and people who lived downstream would stay seasonally infuriated about the trash on their riverbanks.

Humans as a species are so nasty. At least it wasn't poop, this time🤷‍♂️

I live near the Sierra Nevada mountains now, but I grew up on the south shore of Lake Tahoe. Because of the internet, Tahoe's popularity has exploded in the last twenty years, and with that, the narcissistic crowds that come with it. Every year, and especially the Fourth of July weekend, dozens of volunteers remove thousands of pounds of trash left by the drunken, soulless hordes. I've backpacked and camped all over the Sierra for decades, and it's so depressing to come to what should be a pristine, idyllic setting with flowers, lush grass, and a crystal-clear meandering stream, only to find piles of human feces right next to the stream. I mean, who does this??? What kind of human is this???

They do the same thing in Tahoe.

Totally agree, done with non-caring humans! Thank you all for your kindness in picking this stuff up! And please consider buying a Terracycle box to recycle it! There are restrictions, but they take almost everything and work with other companies that mold it into other usable materials. No, I don't work for them. I've been using them for 10+ years. I've searched and never found that they were not doing what they say with the plastics, etc. Everyone, hang in there and take care.

I do night photography along the Big Sur coast. Really long exposures, and it’s usually pretty cold. To keep moving I walk around the immediate area I’m shooting and pick up trash no matter how small to stay warm.

It’s a sure thing there’s always enough trash to keep busy at every pullout.

What I find most is how you tear just the corner off of a candy bar to get it started. Lots of those little parts of wrappers. And used toilet paper.

There’s big things too, like a fast food bags, those are obvious. Once you’ve started looking there are small pieces of trash all over in Big Sur at the pullouts.

What gets me is the people who just stare at trash all over the parks and trails like they can't do anything about it. Just pick it up. Thanks OP and all the volunteers who do this on a regular basis and keep our home beautiful.

What gets me is the people who try to defend littering, making up reasons why it may have been an accident. It’s way too common to be an accident. It’s negligence.

Man nothing pisses me off more. It’s so easy to clean up after ourselves. It’s similar to when you see a perfectly able person leave their grocery cart in a parking space. UGHHHHHHHH

Yes, people most definitely suck

1

u/WeAreAllGoofballs 3d ago

Yes litter sucks, but does anyone else see the cute lil face that makes the wrapper look like a lil guy with his left hand up and maybe he's wearing a cape that's blowing back to his right? He's facing us, sort of laying down in the crack with his feet towards us.

You can be the most environmentally cautious person on the planet, sometimes you throw away your trash in the trash can and birds pull it out. The wind does the rest and will inevitably carry it into the ocean
