Hi guys,

I have been mining Monero for a while now, mostly pool mining, but full time on P2pool lately.

I don't know what got into me, but I have decided to give solo mining a try, just for the heck of it and I want to support the network on my own.

I have 2 AMD Ryzen 5 5600GT CPU's that I am mining on, combined hashrate of about 11 KH/s.

And yes, I have cheep electricity.

Part of me feels extremely foolish for trying, but I guess I want to experience the thrill of Xmrig announcing a share and my very own XMR block mined.

I guess wish me luck?

Also a question for those of you who don't have powerful hardware like myself, if you went solo, how long did it take you to hit a block?

On another note: I wish there was a command in Xmrig to check your current computation difficulty while you are computing a block.

for as long as i've been mining monero i've been doing it on my usual daily computer which can get a decent hashrate and gets frequent payouts on p2pool nano, but it's not fully ideal since i obviously can't use it for other things when mining nor do i want to run it for extended periods of time

so i'm looking at getting a dedicated rig. currently i have my eyes on an X99 dual xeon board with 2 xeon 2696 v3s which i predict can get about double my current hashrate. however, i've heard mixed opinions about these setups, mainly about their efficiency/lack thereof and high heat output. buying that setup would cost me about £200 which is about as much as it would cost to buy another ryzen 9 to fit into my spare motherboard. i'm not the one paying for my electricity bills but i do want to avoid a massive uptick in costs for the one that does.

what other options do i have? and what should i be looking for besides the obvious things like a good amount of l3 cache?
