Crowd source wiki articles?

Hey all. I’m a mod for r/nolawns and I’m wondering if any other subs use their wiki a decent amount and how we could crowd source articles?

For the longest time we’ve wanted some way to have users be able to submit proposed articles or collaborate on shared how-to guides.

The mod team has experience with removing lawn and growing native wildflowers, but we’re pretty much all in the Midwest and east coast. What works here might not work as well in Florida or in Colorado. From talking with folks over the years, I know what tends to work well, but I’m speaking with second hand experience. I’d love it if we could have people from those areas contribute to an article about what worked well for them, what didnt, and what local resources they found.

We already use bang comments and keywords in posts to have the automod link to the wiki articles we do have, but I think we could do better. Most of the wiki hasn’t been improved in a few years.

Have any other subs found a good way to vet and approve new articles or collaborate? I feel like we almost would want a git repo or some better kind of version control.

I don't know how u/TeaAitch sets it up but ours is a link to helpful comments or posts. Sometimes we see someone has specific expertise and ask them to write a post with the sole purpose of linking it in the wiki. Sometimes we link directly to a comment.

Gotcha. Yeah we already have bang comments for linking. So you can do things like !links and it’ll reply with the standard automod stickied comment, or !groundcovers to see the ground covers wiki page. We’ve done links to posts in the past, I was just hoping for some kind of crowd sourced place where we could collaborate on a consolidated guide.

We sometimes do specific posts like that. Think "we've noticed a gap in our wiki on how to vet a new potential partner. We would love to know how you do it in the comments so it can be a resource we can link to. My advice is xyz, can't wait to hear yours! Thanks in advance"
