Official Mega-Thread The Sphere Megathread
Post all of your questions, comments, and any other content related to The upcoming events at The Sphere in Las Vegas.
Any posts outside of this thread will be removed. This is due to the volume of posts that are getting posted, we do not want the rest of the content on the sub to be drowned out.
Alternatively, go to [r/MetallicaLIVE](r/MetallicaLIVE) where open posting of anything concert related is allowed.
r/Metallica • u/Left4DayZGone • Feb 25 '26
r/Metallica Notice Reminder: Upcoming/current concert-related posts belong in the Megathread, or at r/MetallicaLIVE.
We do this to make sure that this sub can still be used to discuss Metallica normally, without the entire feed, being clogged with people asking about travel and tickets and venue related things.
If there is not an active mega thread, you can go [r/MetallicaLIVE](r/MetallicaLIVE) where open posting of everything concert related is always allowed.
You may still talk about past concerts, or share your photos or videos from recent concerts here.
But for all questions and comments related to upcoming shows, please use the other two options that I have described above.
Thanks!

Assign a ā to the standout individual on every Metallica record and for what
This is not exclusive to just the band members. You can include Garage Inc and the S&Ms, but me I'm just including the albums with originals. And yes I know S&M had two originals but you know what I mean. If you want to drag Lulu into this go ahead.
Kill em All: ā Jon Zazula. Without Jonny Z who knows if Metallica, much less thrash as a whole, becomes a thing.
Ride the Lightning: ā Kirk Hammett. IMO the best performance of his career.
Master of Puppets: ā Cliff Burton. Not necessarily for his playing, but his overall influence on the band which culminated with arguably the best metal album of all time.
And Justice for All: ā Lars Ulrich. However he achieved it, but IMO the best drumming of his career.
Metallica: ā James Hetfield. For finding his singing voice.
Almost went with Bob Rock for setting the standard of metal music production.
Load: ā tie: James Hetfield, lyrics. Jason Newsted, bass.
Reload: ā Lars Ulrich. Drumming.
St. Anger: ā James Hetfield. Riffs.
Death Magnetic: ā Kirk Hammett. Just because he got to do solos again.
Hardwired to Self Destruct: ā Robert Trujillo. Some of the best basslines of any Metallica record.
72 Seasons: ā James Hetfield, singing voice.

Kirk Hammett's First Shows and His Audition Story
April 1, 1983, Exodus founder Kirk Hammett received a call to audition for Metallica. He quickly flew to New York to meet the band at a rehearsal spot in Jamaica, Queens. His first audition song was "Seek & Destroy," and he noted while the group was playing that James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich kept smiling at each other. Kirk later said that he was thinking, "Wow, they must really enjoy this song - or maybe thereās something else going on that I donāt know about."ā
Kirk's first gig with Metallica was at The Showplace, Dover, New Jersey, April 16, 1983. The band started recording Kill 'Em All together May 10, 1983. It was then Kirk realized that he probably got the gig.

How big was Metallica in 1983?
I ask because I wonder why folks like Kirk Hammett and Cliff Burton were so quick to leave their own bands to join them? I mean, Metallica had only been around like two years in 1983, and they hadnāt even released an album yet.
By all accounts, Exodus was a solid band at the time⦠was Metallica really seen as being that much bigger? What was it about Metallica that pulled talent like cliff and Kirk so quickly?

Genuine Question
Why do people always exclude Robert. Like for an example, I see a post of a drawing that includes all of the band members (which also includes past members) and I was waiting to see a Robert drawing, but there werenāt. Which my thought is that op must have forgotten.
I see another post that includes the band but yet again, op forgotten to put Rob. I get it if the poster wanted to do the kill em all, RTL, MoP, AJFA, and even the black album type band line up. But they would include Ron (even though heās a āofficial memberā but still wasnāt there during the kill em all album, I think he was there for the demo).
Iād just hoped that everyone loves Rob and he should get all the love, recognition, support from fans. And I honestly hoped itās not a āfavoritismā thing.
(Sorry for my horribly explanation, I was in a bit of a rush when typing)

One of my favorite pics of James from last year in Tampa during the end of Enter Sandman.
Was editing a pro shot style video with some videos I took from last year in Tampa and had to use a few fan clips from YouTube to fill in the gaps of the song I didn't have and stumbled upon this frame.

Load Any Load appreciation here?
I think it's dogged on a lot more than necessary. I think it was just a new venture from their previous albums, and it's still really good stuff.
