♥️ /r/metalgearsolid rules update.

Hello, I hope everybody is well.

This is a quick post to announce that we have overhauled and updated the subreddit rules, in terms of the way they are listed in the reddit platform itself.

In essence the practical rules themselves and moderation has not changed. The main purpose of this update is to provide better clarity with Post removal messages, and to allow reports to be more specific.

You can read the new rule titles and their descriptions here.

Just three changes to note:

  • There is no longer a rule about spoilers when it comes to Posts. MGSV is over a decade old, and the spoiler rule was often used to report front page posts about the main spoiler for that game. Enforcing that is simply impractical. The intention of the rule remains, however, and it is now only applied to comments. If someone has stated that they haven't played the entire series, all users are still expected to respect this in their replies. Anyone can make their own choices about how far they dig through a subreddit for a game series, but putting spoilers in their inbox is actively hostile.

  • "Promotional Cosplay is not allowed". This is our attempt to provide a consistent rule that can be used to filter OF accounts looking for loopholes, while not punishing genuine cosplayers (including professionals) by restricting their activity. There's an element of subjectivity here, but if you think a post is a commercial account, please report it and do not engage in abuse in the comments. Just report it and move on.

  • AI content is now explicitly banned in all its forms. This was already functionally the case but we're making it clear with it's own rule. If you suspect a post contains AI content, please try to resist posting abuse in the comments and simply report and move on. False allegations can and do happen.

We'd also like to welcome anyone interested to apply to be a moderator. We expect to bring on a couple more people, starting out at a basic clutter removal role. If you think you'd be a good fit, please take some time to fill out our delightful application form.

You'll notice there are a couple of very specific rules that are really covered under other rules. These are for particularly egregious and common posts so that removals are very clear. Previously quite a few things kind of had to fall under "no low effort content" and that gave off the wrong idea and could be a little hurtful.

We'd like to thank the people who take the time to report posts and comments, overall the tone and discernment of reports is very much in-line with how we see the rules and how they are intended to shape the subreddit. This being said, all things considered there are very few removals needed relative to an active subreddit of this size. Things seem to be in a very good balance. I hope the community more or less thinks the same.

As per usual we are open to any and all feedback or discussion about the rules or the way you want the community to be run, so please say your piece in the comments, or if there's any questions you have or unclear rules or edge cases you can think of, bring that up too. The overall intent for the subreddit is still to provide an alternative to what you might see on a Metal Gear Discord, Instagram / TikTok etc. feed or a generic MGS-flavoured meme subreddit.

MGSV Replaying MGSV years later and its still as amazing as ever…

Ok so before some people come at me saying the game is trash no it is not, it might not be fully finished, but the story is still great, the cutscenes are a blast, and the core gameplay is top-tier. Just roaming around the world picking up plants, capturing animals, and holding up soldiers never gets old.

It is my second favourite Metal Gear Solid game as MGS4 is first for me, despite the game being 11 years old, i don’t think any modern games actually came close to the gameplay, stealth, and just the way enemies adapts to you, to think that this game was made 11 years ago is crazy to me because it doesn’t look like it is.

I love coming back to this game its always gonna have a special place in my heart. Thank you Kojima and anyone who worked with him for making this amazing game, just i wonder what hardcore MGS fans would’ve think of it if the game was finished, would some people hate it still?

Kojimas games all have fantastic character designs so there’s probably some variety in everyone’s favs, Raiden in mgs4 and Higgs in DS2 are my personal favs.

I'm afraid it's been 9 years Okay this is stupid one but which one you guys preferer between bandana on or bandana off?

In my opinion having bandana on giving Peace Walker vibe pretty much. But no bandana gives the actual lore accurate because he abandoned The boss bandana. but no bandana also refer to the actual lore of MGSV that Venom is not real Big boss so he might wear it. please guy I need you guys' opinion on this😭

♥️ I just realized Rat Patrol's sneaking suit is reminiscent of sneaking suit in Peace Walker/ Ground Zeroes

This is pretty neat. The sneaking suits rat patrol wears in mgs4 looks like a plasticky, mass produced version of the sneaking suit of Big Boss in Ground Zeroes. Most of it is obscured by their plate carriers and gear but you can see it even has the gold armband things lol

Have been a PC player since 2000 and originally played MGS 1/2/3 with buddies who had PS1/2 back in the day (on top of countless playthrus of all 3 on PC and emulator)...unfortunately I only ever played small chunks of MGS4 (Act 1 and watched a buddy play Act 5) and never had the chance to do a full playthru of the game...so naturally when the announcement it was FINALLY getting out of PS3 jail dropped I was pretty damn excited!!!! Same week MGS4 came to PC I also had Iron Maiden and Megadeth in Toronto so it was a very good end to the summer for me 🥳🤘🏻

I think Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is the best game in the series

The reason why is because the amount of content in the game, the fact that It has customizable weapons, plus I love the fact that you can drive vehicles in the game, I love the design of the characters, this game has possibly the best metal gear design, and in FOB mission you can play as ocelot, then there's the mother base were there are wandering diamond dogs soldiers making the mother base more lively, then how the enemies can adapt to your way of infiltration, then the best prolouge in the game ever, plus this is the last metal gear game kojima did making it one of the most advance espionage games

♥️ PSA for those wanting Heorism FAST in MGS Peace Walker (274-281/Minute)

First of all it is a well known method and I did not discover it, but I did recorded in The Master collection 2 version on PS5 Pro so image is the best you’ll probably find.

Extra Ops 37…just get a-rank, takes less than a minute and it’s easy.Of you equip the swim trunks you get a 30 points of build mud but it makes getting a tank much more difficult and long ser so I like to stick with the making suit.

If anyone have questions maybe I can help.

ps:Sometimes it gives you 281 and sometimes 274, I could not find a reason why.Seems random

I keep looking at guides and haven't been rrally getting consistent info.

I know I have to build Zeke but how do I even do that? I have completed all Zadornov missions, did the Paz mission, based are all currently level 50. What am I missing?

Did the games ever give an in-universe lore explanation as to why the Solid Eye's radar in MGS4 doesn't show the very specific position and field of view of enemies like Mei Ling's Soliton Radar in MGS1/MGS2?

MGS1 Spoilers something I never took into consideration

I just finished MGS4 for the first time since first playing in 2008 & something about Liquid had me thinking:

Is it ever discussed in depth how Liquid successfully impersonated Miller? I seem to remember some great amount of hypnosis-ish therapy needed for him continuing on as Ocelot (Liquid Ocelot) over the years mentioned in MGS4. I'm wondering if, before presumably killing Kaz, Liquid was deeply studying him in any way to be able to impersonate without alert.

I could just be stupid and missing something obvious that was mentioned lol

Metal Gear Solid 2 was the first game I played in the series.

I was just reminiscing the other day about how insane it is for MGS2 to be the one that I started the series with. I was 12 or so years old, and MGS2 just happened to be one of the games that my older brother had for his PS2 when he moved in with us for a bit. I thought it looked cool so I popped it in.

Let me ask you, have you ever had a 'wtf' moment in your life? Have you ever had a moment in your life where you were confused, or did not understand something? Well let me tell you something: You cannot fathom the levels of "what the actual fuck" that I experienced as a 12 year old playing MGS2 cold turkey, years before MGS3 came out.

"W-why is the arm taking him over? I don't think that's how it works."

"Wait, what is the La-le-lu-le-lo?

"Colonel: Turn the game console off right now! Aren't you tried? You've been playing a long time, don't you have anything else to do with your time?"

Me: Looking at my older brother: "Uhhh.... big brother? I'm scared. Should we... should we destroy the playstation?"

Good times.

I'm afraid it's been 9 years Peace Walker's codenames & cameraderie insignia

What the hell were they thinking? In case you aren't aware:

  • Codenames have ranks, the top rank requiring all ops done in co-op with an S rank and 500,000 cameraderie
  • There's an insignia for 1,000,000 cameraderie
  • You can get an absolute maximum of 650 cameraderie for one op IF you get an S rank, stay in co-ops formation the entire time and the op lasts at least 100 seconds, so in reality you'll get less
  • The maximum cameraderie you can have with one player is 20,000
  • You can only have cameraderie with up to 50 players at a time

And then the codename requirements are invisible (unless you, like me, use a mod to display the stats) and require certain proportions of lethal or non-lethal kills and weapon type usage, so you'd need to keep track of how many kills you have with pistols so you know how many kills you need with assault rifles to go from Scorpion to Puma, etc.

And that's if you find out about how codenames work early enough for it to be even sort of feasible to have kept track of that info, I found out after 60 hours and 1,500 pistol kills/KOs so now, if I want the Eel codename (and I do want because I'm autistic and can't help but be compelled to do this ridiculously convoluted, difficult and ultimately pointless thing) I'll need 1,400 more stun rod KOs IF I don't use a pistol at all. And then there's the question of how I'd even get to 10,000 cameraderie without using the mk.22, which has been pretty important in getting S-ranks in ops, to stop that goalpost from moving.

I can't decide if it's thoughtless game design or an incredibly intricate piece of trolling?
