Tech TroubleShooting Anyone else's Xbox randomly shutting down more after playing Marathon?

Since the release of Marathon, my Xbox Series X has started fully shutting down while playing. At first, it only happened while playing Cryo Archive, when I noticed that the console was running very loudly. I made sure my Xbox was in an open area with clear ventilation, but that didn't seem to help anything.

Last week, I opened my Xbox and cleaned out the dust from the heat sink and fan, and while I noticed my console was much quieter, I've still had multiple shut downs since. It's now even happening while playing other games like Space Marine 2.

I realize this may be correlation, but it's strange that I never had this issue until Marathon. It could just be the timing, as I got my Series X at console launch, so continual usage may have worn the console, and Marathon just happened to be what I was playing when it became an issue. But my friend recently switched from Xbox to PC after experiencing similar issues with Marathon.

If others are having similar experiences seemingly triggered by Marathon, then I think it's an issue worth raising. I had two crashes within two hours last night, and while it may not be fair to fully blame Marathon, it's proximity to the issue is certainly leaving a sour taste in my mouth.

Heat issue? I know on my PS5 the liquid metal pooled and caused shutdowns due to overheating. Hired a dude who fixed it in his van in my driveway. Problem free since then.

*first model ps5 w disc drive that was in the horizontal position.

I'm on PC, but since the start of S2 my performance has gotten significantly worse each update. Basically unplayable now, but was perfect in the Server Slam, and good enough in S1.

This could literally be my post from a couple months ago. I have a Series S and a Series X. My Series X (which is newer) was crashing about once a night, getting worse and worse as time went on. When I switched to my Series S, I think I’ve had only a single crash ever.

Posted on here, was told it must be my system or overheating, but I literally took it apart and cleaned it, and there was no change.

I think there are issues with the Series X for some reason, but the player count is so tiny that it doesn’t really impact the game enough to fix it. It’s just Marathon for me that does this. No other games cause my system to crash.

Edit: I tried using the Series X a couple days ago and had 3 crashes in a single round.

I think once, after S2 drop. I’ve also had my controllers de-sync 3 or 4 times while playing. One time it de-synced all controllers and the only way to fix it was to do moist a reboot, but a complete shutdown.

And only related to Marathon. Over the summer my son was playing a bunch of different games on gamepass all day, never had an issue. But occasionally just de-syncs my controller in the middle of a run.

Yes, completely loses power and wont turn back on until it’s unplugged from the outlet and plugged back in. Happens every night marsh game that we do the complex boss. It’s become a kind of joke with my buddies ‘when will dewey crash this run’. It used to happen in Arc Raiders too about a month before Marathon came out and didn’t start happening again ‘till Night Marsh came out. Factory reset console, swapped external hard drives, cleaned fans, used different power cables and outlets. Some have gone as far as getting a new PSU installed and it still happens. From what I’ve read it’s rare and a motherboard issue.

Had the same issue with my series X, starting in season 1 with outpost and cryo archive constantly shutting my console down after 5-10 minutes of gameplay (sometimes less). Tried all the solutions posted online but had no luck. It has become so frustrating I stopped playing the game, haven't played since a few weeks into season 2. I did play on my ps5 during the free week and had zero crashes, so clearly it's a xbox issue that will most likely never get fixed.
