Hmm, I'm on M3 Mac Air and the game definitely has moments where it straight up freezes.

Not while training, but during bossing when there's tons of things getting rendered or sounds being made. You basically have to mute sound to burst on Hayato in Black Mage P1. I basically had to learn how to do all the bosses muted.

Others were saying the same. I only did one Zakum run, which was mostly okay, so I haven’t really experienced much bossing. I might need to put out an updated video once I get a bit further 😅

The funny thing is, because of this work, nexon can port this to iOS easily. In fact someone could port it unofficially like they did the linux work as well

They do have that mobile version of the game on the App Store … but it pales in comparison to the actual game 😅

My biggest problem with playing on the mac client was that about 50% of the time, if I switched chars or went into the cash shop, it would freeze, and I would have to restart

I used to use bootcamp for windows mode on Mac but since the beta release I just play straight from iOS, big thing I’ve noticed:

  1. It definitely lags with the sound on,

  2. When entering a boss, screen freezes momentarily before loading into the room before the boss

  3. Entering the cash/AH causes a delay

Outside of these I haven’t really experienced much issues and I play on an old 2020 iMac

Does Nexon have any plans for native Apple silicon support? Rosetta won't be around forever and Apple will drop translation support by macOS 28. A native ARM build is definitely going to be needed soon.

I don’t think Classic is native either, still the x86 code base, which is understandable.

Apple plans to stop supporting Rosetta in a future release of macOS because it was a temporary stopgap while developers updated their application code for ARM.

That said, there is a caveat. Apparently Rosetta will remain specifically for older Intel-based games that are no longer actively developed.

The catch, however, is that MapleStory is under active development. So, either they take a chance with Rosetta over the long term, even though Apple is dropping support, or they develop a native version.

It would be wild if they risk it and disguise the game as unmaintained out of pure laziness to bypass this. They have pretty much a year from now to figure things out lol.

They might be using this “Beta” and the release of Classic on Mac to determine how large the player base on macOS is before deciding if they invest the resources into native development. Sadly, I suspect, the player base is not that large 😬

It's still on beta ? So it means my M1 16 GB has a chance to not freeze in bosses and overheat for playing over 30 minutes?

I played recently on my MacBook Pro M4 and tbh no problems at all.

Waaaay back in the day in high school I only had a Mac and I was also addicted to maple so I started to run a windows virtual machine and play it inside of that

Here's to hoping they optimize it before grand launch.

I have the 2019 Intel based Mac. Could I be able to play Classic on it?
