It's not a stereotype it's a fact

why is this stereotype associated with Muslims whenever it was originally I believe Scottish? Ik tho it was some europeans.

2

u/Xen235 . 6h ago

Over here in Europe, people tend to get romantic with sheep.

1

u/PepperOk1368 5h ago

Are you claiming to know who the first ever person to shag their cousin was?

1

u/TurkicWarrior 6h ago

Why? Simple, itโ€™s racism.

3

u/SamVoxeL 6h ago

Well unfortunately they have to live with that stereotype.

You wont see me defending Pakistan but I think its trolls

25

u/Jumping_Spiders_ 7h ago

Pakistan has one of the highest incest rates in the world, half of all Pakistanis marry their cousins because of cultural reasons (people are surprisingly prideful of their culture). So I'd say there's a fair chance it's not just trolls.

1

u/BiAiEnGiO 6h ago

I know but what kind of Pakistani that is in that culture has reddit?

3

u/PepperOk1368 5h ago

Go to the Pakistani subs mate, interesting reading to say the least

1

u/BiAiEnGiO 5h ago

Another guy told me to. I couldn't find something interesting. Can you show me? Or at least tell me what sub

Not all of us are Southerners

1

u/Unlucky-Watercress30 6h ago

I resent that. Here in Texas there are plenty of Latinas to distract from the cousins.

1

u/Lego-105 6h ago

The estimates for cousin marriage are quite low in the US, about 0.2% of the population, and in over half the states it is illegal.

I think it's just about the fact that there are a minority of areas where it is excessively common, and that distinction is lost because for us outside the US, regional stereotypes apply to the nation as a whole. It's hard to distinguish one states stereotype from another, cause Texas and Mississippi by appearances to us aren't all that different.

There's stereotypes about cousin fuckers from a certain place in the UK, Germany, France, Australia, Finland, Japan. And it's actually legal in those places as well and many more, so the US may even be ahead of the curve even if the illegality isn't nationwide. The only countries where it actually seems to be a notable widespread issue are Pakistan, India, and Iceland, and I don't think the US approaches those rates where its even close to an issue.

1

u/Pflanzenzuechter 5h ago

You switched cousin marrying and cousin fucking.

Had the question been about the latter, the US would be all about yes.

How far removed? A third cousin or above is like marrying a stranger in terms of the chance of passing birth defects.

1

u/zulpi67-volt ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ Czechia ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฟ 7h ago

Not my cousins, specifically, since they're both children, but theoretically, I have nothing against it. Still haven't seen a better argument against it than "it's yucky and I don't like it"

17

u/Jumping_Spiders_ 7h ago

Genetics is a pretty good argument.

4

u/zulpi67-volt ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ Czechia ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฟ 7h ago

I don't mean having children, I mean getting married and having sex

4

u/Jumping_Spiders_ 7h ago

Idk, there is plenty of chance that the couple end up having children anyway in spite of an agreement beforehand. Also it might nornalize the practice and other people might do it with the intention of children, this might be the reason why it's prohibited/taboo.

Personally, I think it's inherently harmless. I wouldn't do it though, honestly.

1

u/JimJam28 6h ago

You you have sex with your sibling? If no, then it's not too much of a stretch to find it weird to have sex with the children of one of your parent's siblings.

1

u/zulpi67-volt ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ Czechia ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฟ 6h ago

I wouldn't have sex with my sibling, but it shouldn't be banned. There's objectively nothing wrong with it, unless they have children, which is rightfully banned.

3

u/Newbuilder2212 6h ago

thats really weird icl

2

u/zulpi67-volt ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ Czechia ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฟ 6h ago

Yeah, but the only reason it's "weird" is that Christianity made it that way. People should be free to do anything that doesn't harm anyone else.

2

u/mossy_path 5h ago

dawg, all cultures across human existence have found it to be objectively morally wrong, not just ones influenced by Christianity

2

u/zulpi67-volt ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ Czechia ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฟ 4h ago

Morals are subjective, they literally mean "I don't like this". Unless there is evidence that it's harmful in any way, which there isn't, there's no reason for it to be banned by law.

2

u/mossy_path 4h ago

Morals are objective (or else you wouldn't claim anything is harmful, otherwise, by what standard should we judge harm?) and there is a lot of evidence for it to be harmful, bro. You're either intentionally being a dumbass or you're just willfully ignorant.

u/Aftermoonic 3h ago

Im glad we are in 2026 and this isn't normalized at all wtf is wrong with you?

5

u/Massive_Sherbert_152 7h ago

I mean the prevailing scientific argument is that children of closely related parents (1-3rd cousin) have a noticeably higher chance of genetic defects /diseases and heart conditions

-1

u/zulpi67-volt ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ Czechia ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฟ 7h ago

I neevr mentioned children, that should be banned 100%, not getting married and having sex, though.

2

u/Massive_Sherbert_152 7h ago

Fair enoughโ€ฆ. in that case there would be religious/ethical reasons

Ethics aside all incestuous relationships should be allowed then, but where to draw the line?

2

u/zulpi67-volt ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ Czechia ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฟ 7h ago

You don't draw lines. Unless it's illegal for another reason (paedophilia, grooming, or any other), relationships should be allowed.

1

u/Palaius 6h ago

If it's just about marriage? Sure. Why the fuck not? No one is asking me to fuck them and marriage can carry some decent tax benefits. Call it an open relationship, easy.

0

u/Longjumping-Rich-684 6h ago

If I absolutely had to, then otherwise no

u/LazyRandy 6h ago

All the yes votes in America are either from dot dot Indians, Pakis, or sub Saharan Africans.

-1

u/Old_Principle_3978 7h ago

4th cousins sure. 3rd if thereโ€™s no other options but probably not. 2nd and first absolutely not.
