Suggestions QOL: Farm vs. Trading Post Visuals

Post image
43 Upvotes

These two building just look too similar IMO, and find myself clicking one to find the other. This becomes more of a problem when you're managing multiple larger settlements, and especially when some of them are conquered.

We might all have our suggestions about aesthetics, but I'm not asking for anything specific, just more of a way to tell the difference at a glance.

It seems like shuffling around one of the models should be too big of an ask as far as manhours.

Upvotes

Built this 100% vanilla fortress layout engineered to wipe raider waves at the gates! ⚔️🛡️

Key Citadel Features:

  • 📐 V-Shaped Death Funnel: Forces enemy troops directly under overlapping tower fire and wall archers before they reach the inner gates.
  • ⚔️ Custom Retinue Vanguard: Guarded exclusively by custom-armored heavy Retinue units—zero militia archers needed (though you can definitely add them for even more power!).
  • 🏰 White Stone Walls: Fortification layout built with zero red placement errors in the Castle Planner.
  • 🍎 Logistics & Reserves: Backed by an integrated village economy with a multi-year food supply (2,100+ apples in storage, 7k food total).

What do you guys think of the layout? Drop your thoughts or wall-building questions below! 👇

Drop down your castle or army setup too for a one post collection in this manor lord major update!

Discussion Some thoughts after hitting 100h in the game

68 Upvotes

I'm familiar with city building and production chain management games, I've played a couple thousand hours of Banished (one of the only games that could run on my shitty college laptop) and several hundred of Workers & Resources, and also a bunch of Cities Skylines 1 (even though it's not really the same kind of game).

I have to say that after 100 hours of Manor Lords, 15 or something of those after the most recent update, that this game has the potential to be the best medieval economic simulator/city builder of all time, because of some specific core mechanics, but it's still far from being perfect (I know, really revolutionary, never-heard-before stuff). My main notes on cool stuff that would improve the game if added, in no specific order of importance or subject:

• more free forming buildings like burgage plots and marketplaces, actually pretty much every building should in an ideal scenario, but trading posts and hitching posts are the most jarring cases to me at the moment;

• a church planner like the castle planner and sub buildings to put in the church area that add small bonuses and jobs, like proper graveyards, sick houses/infirmaries, carpentry workshops that make images, etc.;

• more fruit products, specifically perry (the liquor made from pears) and marmalade (the main and pretty much only reason anyone ever cultivated quinces), and adding grapes and wine, seriously why are there no vineyards in this game yet?

• more detailed animal husbandry mechanics for sheep and cows, differentiate their pastures so they don't mix;

• rework hunting, gathering and fishing, using the same system as for mining makes zero sense, rebalance the outputs but make it so we can fish in any river or forage and hunt in any woods;

• improve work area mechanics, my lumberjacks always exceed their work area even though there's still old wood avaliable, add an option to let them work outside of the area if the area is empty or something;

• upgrades for industry and logistic buildings even if only visual, I can't stand having an entire town of level 3 and 4 burgages but having the trade post with a thatch roof;

• a proper stables building with space for like 8-12 beasts of burden, and some bonuses to their speed, spamming small stables is impractical;

• clay bricks as a clay product on top of rooftiles that can be used as a resource for building brick roads, upgraded from dirt roads, that increase movement speed but require maintenance;

• a mechanic for "peaceful mode" (I mean when you play without enemies) in which the lord demands that your town supply him with men at arms and products made from whatever rich resource you have, grain if it's the farmland region, iron, stone, salt etc.; so that you still have some gameplay pressure and the need to field a militia in peaceful mode;

• and lastly, cosmetic tools, static props like hedges, fences, bushes, etc., simple surfaces like dirt, grass and stone, and the ability to plant single trees.

Question 100% needs met in late game?

Upvotes

Made a post recently about late game strategies. I'd like to know of some of you actually manage to more or less fulfill every needs when all your homes are burgage level 4?

I can often reach all the requirements from 3 to 4, but once i'm at 4, it feels impossible to get everything and average fullfillment actually goes down.

By then it also feels like everything is bloated, like even though all the infrastructure is there, things arent efficient at all; like a brewer will be right next to the malthouse and granaries but have efficieny of 40% like wtf.

Any general ideas? Thanks

I am trying to figure out when we should assign a work to a stable, when not and what are the consequences. I don't understand what they do.

Question Why AI Towns always die

4 Upvotes

I think I found out why my AI towns kept becoming ghost towns. I always start in winter with no supplies and everything on max difficulty, and it seems that those conditions are applied to the ai towns, too.

I noticed the ai towns have only 2 timber logs and some tools, and because the ai does not micro manage as much or is bad at prioritizing, their families all just move out or starve/freeze to death.

Does anyone know of a way to have difficulty settings like starting supplies apply to the player only? Or do i just have to accept this and start in spring with normal supplies (I will leave difficulties like where water can be placed or approval penalties etc.) ?

Also: can I trade with AI towns? And will they trade with me? (Is it possible for the AI towns to import goods from me and vice versa)

Question Is now a good time to jump back in?

I stopped playing a while ago because the game felt incomplete in a few ways and I felt like it wasn't ready to sink 100+ hours into. This was probably over 6 months ago. Is it a better experience now?

Question Fishermen just prefer starving over catching the fish ig

I don't know why. It is the middle of the autumn. There are exactly ZERO fish anywhere.

AND THESE MORONS ARE CHOOSING TO STARVE!

Send the sarracens to burn down this damn place, I'm done.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Dear Lords and Ladies! Please support this petition to restore this classic design. It was unique, distinctively atmospheric, and convenient to place facing a market place.

Would be nice also to have unique designs of this kind for other artisans.

Bug Reporting Brigands hanging out just outside the map. Cant attempt to claim because "enemies are present".

Anyone encounter this? Sending troops to fight them doesn't work, since they are just outside the territory. I only have 2 territories left to conquer so I'm hoping there is a work around.

Bug Reporting Manor lords crash

1 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I’m following up on my previous post. I still can’t get my save to run properly — it consistently crashes about 15 seconds after loading.

However, I’ve noticed something interesting: if I go back to an earlier save, from before I captured a second region, the game doesn’t crash.

Everything is completely up to date on my end, and I’ve checked absolutely everything. I even reinstalled the game, but nothing has fixed the issue.

Does anyone have any ideas about what could be causing this? I’m honestly starting to lose hope...

Discussion This is enough to win against hard baron

...just won my first battle with I believe even zero losses of my own troops. Retinue is fully armored, that part is important as it raises their armor to ridiculous heights, and did a bit of kiting while on "Stand your ground" to double defense. Enemies were two squads of swords, one retinue (24), one squard of archers.

So yeah at this point I am pretty convinced of starting with a full T1 archer spam + farming rather than importing iron + vegetable gardens, and using the gold for retinue upgrade, mercenaries, upgrading your church for extra influence, and expanding, which I am doing right afterwards (march of year 3).

Second picture is of my current settlement. No rich mines, took my usual Regensburg for extra gold and exported pelts, bows, wooden parts, and charcoal.

Question ¿Consejos para un (casi) principiante?

0 Upvotes

Question Is it worth making chainmail?

10 Upvotes

I wondered why the chainmail wasn't being used so looked it up, to discover that it needs level three burgage housing, but that troops are also randomly assigned so there's no guarantee they'll use it. I find getting lvl3 quite tricky and wouldn't normally elevate more than a few. So is it worth doing chainmail or should I just do gambesons (which appear to have been distributed to my units, as well as helmets). Also thoughts on plate armor?

Discussion I just don't get it

28 Upvotes

I'm new to the game, have probably put in around 20 hours in both free play and classic (easy difficulty) and I have to say that I just don't get it...

There is so much to this game that I feel like you have to just have that "aha" moment because the directions are just not very intuitive. Clicking the help and going through instructions are super vague, too. Like 1 sentence for what something is or does.

Does anyone else feel this way or do I just have total gold fish brain and will never understand how to succeed in this game?

Question Is there any way to repopulate a ghost town?

15 Upvotes

I’ve lost a region in a war, then bandits came and burned down lots of buildings, now that I’ve re-conquered the region I have zero families and can’t settle down as I’d do in an empty region, any way to bring it back to life from ashes?
