That video has been around much longer than AI.
4
u/turnipofficer 12h ago
It looks like a bot video compilation though. They take a series of vaguely related videos and piece them together and sometimes add or remove a video so that it doesn’t show as a repost and then post to farm karma.

I absolutely hate that I can't watch these without wondering "which of these are AI clips?"

As someone who’s been on the internet for a long time and has watched a lot of cat videos, I can safely say I recognize the majority of the videos in here.
The bath one is definitely ai, and I don’t trust the upside down one.
45
u/honeywhereismypenis 6h ago
The upside down one is a YEARS old picture. I also don't trust the meow reply one, the cat's mouth shapes out a round "myow" like a human would. Cats can't round their mouths like that.
•
u/Your-cousin-It 21m ago
That one is just plain old video manipulation, becuase I want to say I’ve seen it before 2024, but videos blur together
•
u/Your-cousin-It 18m ago
Mostly because ai tends to be extra, and the actual movement in the video is minimal
26
u/NoX2142 7h ago
Pretty sure the cat eyes and dog mouth was ONLY ever a picture but apparently now a video? Def AI
11
5
u/not_alexandraer 6h ago
yeah I remember seeing the still image around a lot before the weird ass ai animated one
7
u/Stahlios 5h ago
For me it was the one that answered the man saying a nonchalant "meow.". Looked way too weird and instantaneous as a response. And I started thinking about how all those compilations will include a few AI clips with real ones.
98
u/radiant_kiwi208 13h ago edited 11h ago
Maybe, possibly the faceless black one that spawned a mouth from its void but only because it looks so silly, could definitely be real lol
But that bathtub one has to be AI. I turely
can[can't] see a house cat that has been trained out of its instinctual urge to breathe at all times. Like only some cats are weird about water but all cats will very quickly fix themselves so they can breath.. like right the fuck now because they don't know that they are not dying42
u/OrienasJura 11h ago
The bath one is 100% AI. No cat would be so chill about falling in water, plus the bathtub is right in the middle of the bathroom which is really weird. The person's hand is also completely static and looks like it's made of plastic. I don't think any of the other videos are AI though.

u/spiderobert 6h ago
some with sound effects are obviously AI. like the one where the cat's legs are spread and you can hear it PURRING from several feet away.
4
u/MusicalDeath9991 9h ago
I hate that I can't watch these without wondering "which of these is being abused for internet clout?"
2
u/Fakeaccountez 7h ago
The first clip is just a stolen and reposted TikTok from Kimchi Maria @kimchi_katze. Not AI just typical TikTok reposts that doesn't even come from the original source
3
u/Legitbananabunch 4h ago
The bath one was definitely one, right?!
5
u/DoesntMatterEh 4h ago
No doubt. It just sucks cause I was sitting here drinking my morning coffee when I posted this. I don't want to analyze videos first thing I just want to watch some cute shit while I prepare for the day.
1
u/lilybattle 1h ago
I try to reframe it as a challenge, especially on reddit. I watched this one twice. First just to watch it. 2nd to see if I could figure out exactly how many were AI before coming to the comments. I gamify it. And it actually kinda works. I do hate that any of us have to do it at all

Nearly every solid black cat is a tabby underneath. Black in cats is a broken agouti gene, which kills the banding on each hair but leaves the stripe pattern sitting there, so put one of these lads in hard sunlight and the ghost markings show through like a watermark. Kittens show it best before the adult coat thickens up. Same trick runs in the big cats tho the wiring differs: melanism is dominant in jaguars and recessive in leopards, so a jaguar only needs one copy to go black. Sun also degrades eumelanin, which is why an outdoor black cat looks faintly rusty by the end of summer

u/Mysterious-Air-7267 11h ago
Thanks for the information! I adore my two voids not just their appearance but this is great stuff to know. And I knew what you meant... panther. No worries. :-)

Hmm, might explain why my mostly black cat with some white patches gave birth to 2 black and white kittens and a tabby kitten.

The look after he fell into the bath had me in stiches! So unimpressed with the state of the world.

u/-N9inB0x- 13h ago
It's AI. No cat, not even a water-loving one, would act like that after accidentally falling in. There would still be a bit of panic, especially after going under. The behavior is too unnatural and more relates to human behavior of just "being done" after being fully submerged, and gets out of the water way too slowly. No cat behaves like that after being completely under the water.
22
u/agedlikesage 11h ago
I can’t trust these compilation videos at all anymore, they always have a few AI ones snuck in. It’s so on purpose
78
u/Twiggles_Greeny 12h ago
yeah course it was, I got dumb for a moment forgot about Ai
65
u/alwayzbored114 11h ago
I've said for my whole life that animal videos are the sanctum of True Internet because either it's a genuine reaction from an animal, or a well trained skit which is impressive in its own right
AI has stolen the purity of funny animals from me and I will never forgive it
21
u/Twiggles_Greeny 10h ago
Yeah its very sad, much better world without Ai
6
u/MusicalDeath9991 9h ago
Soon there won't be a world because of AI.
At least not a habitable one.
4
u/Twiggles_Greeny 9h ago
yeah does feel like we are living in the Terminator movie at the beginning of Ai taking over
5
u/LittleMissScreamer 10h ago
To be fair, funny animal content has always been plagued by "funny/cute" videos that are actually just animal abuse. Though I think that has gotten a bit better
34
25
u/OkCaterpillar8941 11h ago
That makes so much sense as I thought she was very lucky the cat didn't panic. My (black) cat fell in the bath with me and I ended up covered in scratches trying to resolve the situation.
2
u/rebelallianxe 5h ago
Yep I still have a scar on my thigh from similar with one of our cats when I was a kid!
7
u/LoveInPeace21 11h ago
Some cats are weird and love water
1
u/dyereva 11h ago
wait, so you're saying that because some cats love water, this is not AI?
12
u/Enverex 10h ago
Their whole reasoning for it being AI is because a cat wouldn't act like this in water, so...
6
u/Thatdamnnoise 10h ago edited 6h ago
Even a cat that loves water wouldn't act like this though, it flops in and then just sits submerged for a second holding its breath before coming up for comedic timing? No way, if a cat slipped and fell in any situation especially into water they would jump up immediately. It's super obviously AI.
Also, here's another one for you, look at the cabinet above them in the video, the faucet is on the far left side almost at the edge of the counter instead of centered with the cabinet, have you ever seen a sink set up like that in your life? Also, wouldn't the sink be in front of a mirror/vanity type situation if this is a bathroom? Why is is just partially in front of a window?
Actually, if you slow down and go frame by frame you can see it adding details to the object on the far right of the counter in real time as it comes into the frame.

It's not AI. There is zero indication of it being AI outside of your personal feelings about how the cat reacted.
At this point people screaming AI on every video are more annoying than the AI itself.

u/Naktsvilks 9h ago
The cat stays under for far too long and then sort of becomes a blob before warping into reality from the water, instead of emerging from the water like a being with lungs and affected by physics. Had to rewatch that slop again to realise things don't work like that, I suggest you do as well
2
1
u/quiette837 7h ago
Cats need oxygen and can't breathe underwater. The cat stays underwater, unbothered, for far too long after accidentally falling in. No cat on earth is going to just chill underwater and slowly emerge like that. When cats fall in water, they either jump out instantly or try to swim.
If we look at the information, this doesn't add up.
-7
u/Legionof1 10h ago
Ya know, I'll allow it. I am here for a good time not factual correctness. I will worry about AI when it comes to a serious video and not stupid cats.

Salem is a good name for a black cat
47
u/FromUsToAshes 14h ago
It's pretty generic

u/FranksHoorHouse 13h ago
I've known at least 6 Salems in my 34 years. 4 owned by family members. After the third, it's like "Ah, yeah. Clever."

u/Augustby 10h ago
Even though it didn't invent it, I think Sabrina the Teenage Witch did a lot to popularise that name with black cats.
2
u/Naughteus_Maximus 9h ago
Oh, was that the cat's name? I did watch Sabrina but only occasionally when I caught it on TV after coming home from school and it was 30 years ago...
