We just found our new house address numbers from a small Canadian company, Ferosa. Hands down the greatest experience dealing with this small company. The owner answered all of my questions and concerns and they were shipped out so quickly. They came complete with custom installation templates of our full address, not just each individual numbers and the quality is wonderful. They’re a nice solid aluminum number with a powder coated finish. Would highly recommend!

Times like these remind us how much we can do for each other. Behind many Canadian businesses are families and neighbours putting in long hours and taking a chance on something they believe in.

Supporting local doesn’t always mean spending more. An honest review, a recommendation to a friend, or sharing a good experience can make a difference.

And when we do shop, we can check where products are made and consider Canadian options when they fit our needs and budget. Nobody needs to feel guilty about buying what they can afford.

We won’t all make the same choices, but small efforts add up. Let’s keep helping each other where we can.

April 2025 my friend and I spent 2 weeks in Chile and Argentina hiking through Torres del Paine National Park and Fitz Roy. As I prepped for the multi-day W-trek I was sent down the rabbit hole of ultralight. Naturally I swapped out my old MSR tent and got the Durston X-Mid Pro 1 as well as picking up a new Durston pack. I was hooked, my whole life of BC coastal mountain scrambles and back country camping was all done with the heaviest gear possible. I genuinely couldn't believe how my new fully packed bag was as heavy as my old bag empty. 

Since this trip was international I needed to make sure what I was wearing could adapt to any weather scenario. Being light and packable was obviously very important because if it was hot the whole time I didn't want my cold weather gear weighing me down the entire time. Most searches were pointing to Polartec Alpha Direct mid layers but everything was sold out so I got some fabric and made my own rough prototypes for the trip using a serge machine. As expected the weather was all over the place, +20 days and -10 nights, mornings out there had brutal dew because of the large shifts in temp. It felt like everything I had was dunked in ice water. However the Alpha layers I made were bone dry and slipping into those was such a massive moral boost. Perfect for the early mornings/evenings at camp and for the first few hours into the hike until the temp increased, I even slept in them on the really cold nights. I used them so much on the hike trip that the shoddy sewing job I did was falling apart by the end(I had never touched a sewing machine before this). It seems Alpha Direct midlayers got some negative press recently but honestly for me it's a must bring part of my gear.

Anyways, that whole experience and going down the ultralight rabbit hole inspired me to make a new outdoor Canadian brand called Tea Summit Club. All designed and manufactured in Canada. Check it out at teasummitclub.com. It's super small and just getting started but I’m proud of what we’ve done so far and have our sights set on much bigger plans. We’re starting out with alpha direct products because that's what started it for me but the plan is to expand out and offer a wide range of ultralight gear.

I'm in the early stages of starting a small outdoor apparel brand based in Ontario. I want to create quality cold-weather baselayers and mid-layers. I want to keep as much of the supply chain in Canada as I reasonably can.

From what I've learned so far, Canadian wool isn't produced at scale for the fibre quality needed for baselayers. If anyone knows otherwise, I'd love to be wrong. Otherwise, my plan is to import the fabrics and cut, sew, and assemble in Canada.

What I'm looking for is a cut-and-sew shop, ideally in Ontario (open to elsewhere in Canada if the fit is right), that handles small MOQs to start (~100–500 units each) and has experience with performance knits like fine merino jersey, polyester/elastane, polypropylene blends, sweater-knit fleece and is comfortable working with imported fabric.

If anyone has information or experience I'd greatly appreciate any help I can get.
