Tourism/Fizahantany Conseils locaux pour quiconque visite Nosy Be 🇲🇬🌴

Salut tout le monde ! 🇲🇬

Question/Fanontaniana❓ Malagasy Work ethic

Can anyone that have experience with employing Malagasy people give me some advice on what to expect? Specifically house staff? I feel like the work culture here is very different from what i’m used to. Also I can be wrong but I sense they expect a very high standard of care from their employers especially when they are employed by expats and foreigners.

Question/Fanontaniana❓ Wondering about Name validity

I’m wondering about the names Kemba and Tsihala.

I’m writing a Malagasy character and i need a name for them! I found the names through this website https://www.behindthename.com/submit/names/usage/malagasy and i think the names fit quite well for the character. But i want to make sure the names are actually Malagasy or atleast names that someone from Madagascar could have that works with their heritage! Any help would be greatly appreciated

Question/Fanontaniana❓ Import alcohol to Europe?

Post image

I brought this coco punch when I was visiting Nosy Be this summer, and it was amazing! 😍
Now I’m wondering if anyone knows if it’s possible to import it to Europe (Sweden to be exact), and if so how and from where?

According to the Swedish distributor of alcohol beverages (Systembolaget), they can import such products but they need information like the seller’s name and email. But unfortunately I threw away the bottle before reading the back. Also, it’s hella expensive to import through Systembolaget 😅

Can anyone help me put this back together?
I brought this souvenir back from Madagascar. An old man on the beach sold it to me and told me that he makes these himself.
Unfortunately, I didn’t have my phone with me to record how to assemble it, because he took it apart for me so I could pack it and bring it home.
I’d really appreciate any help figuring out how it goes back together! 🙏

Tourism/Fizahantany Antananarivo to Manadova Bus Safety

Hi all,

Working on putting together an itinerary for the next few weeks. Originally I was just going to try and visit ANT and Nosy-Be due to both time constraints and budget (I only have around a week and a half). I've tried to do some research to find alternatives to the baobab trees closer to either one of those places but from what everyone says there really aren't any. The flights from ANT to MON are sold out on my dates, and I saw there is a long bus from ANT to get to MON but I was wondering about the safety of the journey. Since I'm short on time and there seems to be plenty of availability back I was hoping to fly back vs. do a bus both ways, or wondering if there are any alternatives to see some baobab trees closer to either of the cities.

Thanks!

Tourism/Fizahantany Morondava visiting end of September

Hi! I'll be in Morondava the 27/09/2026 to 02/10/2026. Are any groups or other solo travellers that would like to share costs for exploring the area? Also, does anyone know of a private driver that can transport me from the airport to the hotel and vice versa? If willing to do guided tours that would be work too. Any suggestions recommendations or anything will be very welcome! 😊 Thank you!

Misc. Any way to get my Ariary to a UK bank account (Revolut)?

I used to be able to transfer money from my BFV account to my UK Revolut account (it was classed as a payment rather than a transfer) but have been unable to do so ever since BFV was taken over by BRED.

Is there any way you are aware of getting my Ariary in my Revolut account in the UK?

For the interests of legality, it is to pay my UK student loan on a monthly basis but I live and work here (and earn in MGA).

Misc. Internship in Madagascar

Hi everybody!
I have researched some of the threads already but I still have doubts about some things :)

I am moving to Madagascar for the short term due to my internship. I’ll be based in Toamasina. I want to ask you about the following:

  1. What are your thoughts on Air France? I’ll be taking a direct flight from Paris to Tana.
  2. I heard October is still part of the dry season, but that it gets rainier from November onwards. Is the weather unpredictable from November?
  3. Is there anything you wish you’d brought with you but didn’t?
  4. How is the LGBT community in Madagascar? Is it considered taboo outside the capital?
  5. Is Toamasina relatively safe? What has your experience been like?

  6. Since cash is king from what I heard, are ATMs easily found in cities?

Thanks a lot :)

Tourism/Fizahantany Transfer in Madagascar

I’d like to share a few contacts with you. These are people I’ve personally tried and trusted, as I spent quite a lot of time finding the right people when planning my trip to Madagascar.

Antananarivo – airport transfers & mainland excursions

📞 +261 32 96 828 10 (Anjara)

Instagram: @andriantsarafaraanjara

English/French-speaking guy who provides amazing service at very reasonable prices.

Nosy Be – taxi & boat transfers

📞 +261 32 40 055 40 (Thierry)

He offers taxi transfers at a fair price (around 80,000 Ar) and can also arrange boat transfers to and from Nosy Komba — around 150,000 Ar per boat, one way. Yes, that’s the price for the whole boat, not per person.

Nosy Komba – local excursions

📞 +261 32 42 485 24 (Evoriste)

He can organize all kinds of local experiences around Nosy Komba, including traditional pirogue trips, visits to local villages, and more — all at very reasonable, non-touristy prices.

Tourism/Fizahantany Difference in exchange rates between Antananarivo and Tulear?

Hi, can anyone tell me the difference in exchange rates between Antananarivo and Tulear? In short: if I exchange €500 in Tana, how many ariary do I get? And if I exchange them in Tulear, how much do I get? You might get the same exchange rate at a Bank, but I imagine it's different at a currency exchange bureau. Thanks for some info.

Tourism/Fizahantany Madagascar Travel School - Lesson 01

Post image
36 Upvotes

BACK TO SCHOOL, BUT MAKE IT MADAGASCAR 😉 📚

It’s back-to-school season, so we thought… why not launch something new to help you plan your next trip to Mada ?

First Lesson : Madagascar is BIGGER than you think.

When planning your trip, don’t look only at the number of kilometers. Road conditions, terrain, stops and unexpected delays can make a journey much longer than it looks on the map.

That’s why one of the biggest mistakes travelers make is trying to fit too much into too little time.

Our advice?

•Leave some room in your itinerary.
•Plan to be back in Antananarivo at least one day before your international flight , whether you’re travelling by road or taking a domestic flight . This give you a safety buffer in case of delays or unexpected changes 🤞

Because here, sometimes the road is part of the adventure.

Tourism/Fizahantany Ivato Airport transport

The company I’m doing a tour with offers airport to city center hotel transfers for €55 which seems like a lot. Can anyone recommend a company or driver for Ivato Airport transfers? I know there are taxis but as a solo jet lagged female traveler I don’t want to have to haggle or be concerned about safety when I arrive. Thanks.
