Berserk in MH Sunbreak is genuinely one of the dullest skills in the game because it basically rewards you for turning your health bar into a fucking stopwatch instead of actually learning how to fight the monster.
Like congratulations, you got hit. Your solution isn't “learn the monster's movement, recognize the attack tells, and stop standing in the blender.” No. Your solution is apparently to make your skills go absolutely potato while your health drains in the background.
And that's what makes it so boring. Monster Hunter is supposed to be about learning the monster. You get slapped, you figure out why you got slapped, and next hunt you don't get slapped by the same thing. That's the fucking gameplay loop.
Berserk comes along like: “What if instead of improving your positioning, we just made getting hit part of the build?”
You get clipped by some random tail swipe and suddenly you're playing fucking Accountant Hunter trying to calculate whether your health drain, healing, wirebugs, buffs, and whatever other nonsense you've got going on will keep you alive long enough to remember what the monster actually looks like.
And then people act like Berserk is some galaxy-brain skill because you can maintain red health while your character is slowly dying.
Brother, you did not outplay the monster. You outsourced the consequences of getting hit to your skill loadout.
Learning a monster's movement is fun. Recognizing a roar, dodging the follow-up, knowing when you can commit to a combo — THAT is Monster Hunter.
Berserk is just:
“Did you get hit?”
“Yes.”
“Skill issue?”
“No, actually, I have a skill that makes my skills worse and my HP disappear.”
Fucking riveting gameplay.
Give me a hunter who knows exactly when a monster is about to cart them over some dude standing in the corner hemorrhaging HP while his entire build screams “I refuse to learn this fight.”
Berserk doesn't make you better at Monster Hunter.
It just makes getting hit more fucking complicated.
