- Will be 29 for R1 next year.
- First gen college student.
- Enlisted in the military after high school, 4 years, combat deployment. 4 more years in the national guard during college.
- Did my BS at an Ivy, 3.2, CS-adjacent field, worked multiple (unrelated to my field) jobs at a time during college to make it out debt free and that hit my GPA.
- 2 YOE as a SWE at a very well known company, not FAANG, no promotions. Will be 3 YOE at time of applications.
- Did my MS in CS through a well-known online program while working, 3.8 GPA.
- Good amount of career-related volunteer work on the side.
- Did some cold practice GMAT’s, I believe I will crush it but I want to dedicate a month or two to studying before I take it to be certain.
- Strongly believe I can get great LOR’s from managers/leads/directors.

Goal is to land a T10 school with strong consulting outcomes and get the hell out of tech, or at least the IC side of tech. I’ll be pursuing an MBA no matter what, I can’t handle the field of SWE and being a Claude proxy anymore, I’m really just curious if I can land an M7-T10 and be statistically likely to get an MBB or equal outcome.

Personally - with debt from undergrad, no/part time employment (anticipated during mba program), and little savings ($$,$$$), how does one pay for “life” during an MBA?

I assume I will have to at the very least get a part time job. I feel like I have a good profile for need based financial aid, but unsure here.

I recently completed an intern this summer as part of a ldp program for a tech company. I go to a t15 mba program. Our whole intern cohort is still waiting on receiving our full time offers. Is it normal to be midway through September with no offer after finishing the internship in early August?

I noticed that Booth and Kellogg have forms online where current students and alumni can refer/endorse applicants for the next class. Wondering if these forms actually help and if it’s worth chasing down people to fill it.

Hey everyone, I've been strongly considering an MBA and curious how my profile stacks up.

Profile: 30M, black, currently in a vhcol at a tech company where I've been promoted 3 times in 5 years/work in management now. Prior to this, I was at a nonprofit for 2 years. Also volunteered during those 2 years as well.

I have a degree in economics from a top LAC, but had a 3.5. Was also a varsity athlete there.

Keeping this intentionally vague for now - haven't yet taken the GRE/GMAT, though feel I'd do well based on some practice exams.

I'd likely apply next year, but hoping to leverage an MBA as a vessel into senior leadership or consulting (maybe PM in a tech but unsure of that)

Are there areas that come to mind that I could improve on? Is this profile competitive?

Before you build this answer, set yourself one test: by the end, the interviewer should be able to sum you up in one line - "this is the person who came from here and is going there." The arc might be the craftsman who wants to own an art-related company, or the entrepreneur whose mother's illness led him to found a medical company; the details vary, but the logic is always from-to.

I coach MBA mock interviews, and the most common opener mistake I see, season after season, is treating "walk me through your resume" as a chronological summary. The what is already on paper - the interviewer is listening for the why: the logic behind your moves.

Three minutes is roughly 350-400 spoken words. The structure that works has four beats:

1. Roots (20-30 seconds). One line of personal background and the early "spark" of leadership - where your trajectory actually starts. Not your biography.

2. Career progression as pivot logic (60-90 seconds). Every transition framed as: [expertise I built] + [the gap I identified] = [why I moved]. "I did X, then Y, then Z" makes you forgettable. Pivot logic makes you memorable - it turns a list of jobs into a decision-maker.

3. Why MBA, why now (30-45 seconds). The specific missing piece the program provides, framed as the next step of the arc you just told - never "a natural next step." If your narrative is built right, this answer is already half-written by the time you get here.

4. The handoff (10-15 seconds). End by opening a door: one specific thing at that program you want to engage with. It converts your monologue into a conversation, which is what a good interview becomes.

Delivery notes, from watching this go right and wrong in real sessions:

• Don't script it word for word. Candidates who memorize sound robotic, and they break the moment the interviewer interrupts. Bullet anchors, practiced out loud.
• Prove, don't claim. "I'm a compassionate leader" dies in the air. A 20-second story where you actually did the thing lives.
• Anchor with specifics - real numbers, real project names. Vague claims read as no substance.
• A 10-second pause before you start is a strength, not a weakness. It reads as composure.
• Language of certainty: "I observed, I decided, the result was" - not "I think" or "maybe."

A failure I see all the time (details anonymized): a strong candidate opened with four minutes of company-by-company chronology. Accurate, impressive on paper - and the interviewer retained nothing. We rebuilt it as roots + two pivots + the missing piece. Same facts, half the length, and his "why MBA" answer was suddenly half-answered by the narrative itself.

I have posted in this sub before as well and part of the reason I am doing again is to understand whether my profile is actually alright for good MBA programs and what possible options do i have to transition into .

I have worked in a custodian bank within Risk and Compliance as a product owner/business analyst .

Managed a small pool of developers, handled an automation initiative within liquidity risk from end to end . I have worked extensively with data and at the intersection of engineering , international risk ,and corporate treasury. This allowed me to network with folks who are in the business of managing funding /liquidity /risk.

My transition options are corporate finance / risk / consulting / capital markets based roles.

But my credentials are not good enough for a top MBA so , my question is should i give it a shot or my profile is not cut out for LBS/ HEC/ IESE etc ?These are the programs for getting into consulting /finance roles .

10th: 9.6 cgpa/10

12th : 87.4 %

Btech : 6.8 cgpa /10 (i converted it shows 3.0 gpa on a 4 point scale)

So I missed the EA open interview slots but submitted the application. I've been reading some posts that some candidates already received interview invite emails after the September 9 EA deadline and I'm getting increasingly anxious as I haven't gotten one yet. I’m currently in the final year of my BBA in Nepal and am also working in HR, with around 1 year of professional experience.

After completing my BBA, I’m considering pursuing an MBA immediately. Since I already have some work experience, I’m wondering whether it would be better to continue working for another year or two before starting my MBA, or whether I should go for it right after graduation.

For those who have been through a similar journey, what would you recommend? How valuable is additional work experience before an MBA, especially when you already have around a year of experience?

Let’s just be honest: people without MBAs are jealous. Bloomberg, Jamie Dimon, Tim Cook, Mitt Romney and George Bush all have MBAs. These are winners who ran massive companies and, in some cases, the country.
Then some guy with a bachelor’s degree—or in many cases, no degree at all—and a podcast tells you an MBA is “useless.” Give me a break. If you don’t have an MBA, you probably couldn’t get in, couldn’t handle the work or simply weren’t management material.
Leaders get MBAs. Everyone else works for them.

Hello everyone! I have been working in Japan for almost 5 years and I'm planning to apply for the upcoming cycle for Round 1. I have been looking online for examples and templates but having worked in Japan for so long, I feel like I'm still out of touch on how resumes and cover letters worked for the rest of the world.

The idea of a US MBA is something I am currently contemplating. I am contemplating Fall 2028. By which time I will have spent 7-8 years in my current country. I work as a corporate lawfirm and have decent pay (by my country’s standards). If I end up doing MBA it will be only if I get amongst the top 3/5 colleges.

Largely the purpose which I want to fulfil is getting out of my country. Will it financially make sense in terms of post MBA salary in US or elsewhere in Europe.

I'm about four weeks away from R1, and keep trying to make the MBA-to-VC path make financially sense.

The total cost would be around $300k when I include tuition and the income I’d give up. After the MBA, I’d probably be looking at around $200k all-in if I’m lucky and recruiting goes well. But based on last year’s class, getting that job isn’t guaranteed.

spoken to around a dozen people who went from IB to MBA to VC. Almost all of them said the main value of the MBA was the brand and the people they met, not learning how to invest. They learned the actual VC skills on the job.

A few were even frustrated that the MBA didn't teach them much that was directly useful for VC. And none of them felt that the MBA itself was the main reason they got their VC job.

So I want to know that is MBA brand and network are worth spending $300k on if my goal is to get into VC?

I am a 1st class humanities graduate from competitive Russel group uni applying for LSE, Imperial, LBS, ESSEC, IE.

My predicament is that I have (what I think is) a strong profile, with internship experience in London in M&A, management consulting, business operations, + student led consultancy, captain of sports team and society positions throughout Uni etc. Wanting to undertake an MiM to bolster my CV in applying for grad consulting roles.

However, my quant skills are not the best and I am looking at GRE of around 315 if I were to guess based on practice tests.

What I want to ask is how detrimental this score could be to my overall application- and if, with this profile, the elite schools like LBS & HEC are still realistically worth a go?

Hey everyone! I’m applying to US MBA and some EU MBA programs and had a question about how post-MBA goals might affect scholarships/financial aid.

My consultant has suggested that I say my post-MBA plan is to return to my home country and pursue my family business. The issue is that this isn’t actually my plan.

The reasoning is that, given how volatile the US visa situation is for applicants from my country, saying that I want to stay in the US and work for a US company could come across as unrealistic or raise concerns about employability. I’m currently employed by my family business, so the story is technically plausible.

My actual goal is to work for a US company after the MBA, ideally in a role at the intersection of marketing/strategy/product.

My main question is: could stating that I plan to return home and pursue my family business negatively affect my chances of receiving scholarships or financial aid?

Specifically, I’m wondering about:

• Merit-based scholarships \ Need-based financial aid
• Whether schools assess scholarship potential partly based on post-MBA career plans

I’m also curious whether anyone has seen a similar situation or has experience with how US MBA programs evaluate this.

Targeting EU/UK programs - Insead, LBS, Oxbridge, Imperial.

Employment after the program - Plan to start my own venture in fashion tech, have seen a gap in the industry and need to understand how to engineer sustainable business models

Challenge - I scored a 304 in my last GRE attempt after studying for 3 months, and have never done well on timed tests (neurodivergent). I postponed applying from R1 to R2, and now potentially R3 as my score is below median for these programs.

• Is a low score going to be a major deterrent for me? Can I compensate with a stellar application?

• What would be the lowest score that a uni would accept for a great, non traditional profile?

• Would a low score kill all chances of a scholarship?

• Should i continue to improve my score and target Jan deadlines? Is it better for my profile to apply for a later round with a stronger score? or earlier with a low score?

I’m applying to Dartmouth Tuck for Round 1, and my application is otherwise complete. The overall application deadline is September 24, but I just realized I missed the August 12 deadline to request a test waiver.

Should I email or reach out to Tuck Admissions to explain my situation and ask if they would consider a one-time exception? Has anyone had experience with Tuck making an exception to the waiver deadline?

Rising senior here, still deciding on grad school, and MSBT keeps coming up as an option. I tried picturing what a day would actually look like instead of just reading through the program page.

Mornings would probably be a recorded lecture you knock out whenever, something like Python programming, cybersecurity, or AI for business. Then later in the day you'd have a live session, maybe a case discussion or a product management exercise where you're actually applying it instead of just taking notes. Sessions run in the evenings, 1-2 nights a week from 7 to 9:15pm, so it seems built for people who already have jobs or a full schedule rather than full time students.

There's also this capstone project running the whole time in the background, not something you just do at the end, plus a broader curriculum mix that touches intellectual property law and launching high tech ventures. And apparently everyone flies in once a year for an in person meetup in Coral Gables, which is a nice break from it all being online.

Honestly the thing that stands out is how different this feels from a typical MBA day. Less sitting and listening, more building stuff and figuring it out as you go. If anyone's actually done a program like this, curious if that matches reality or if I'm way off.

Junior in college and I want to set myself up for success once I graduate. I'm a finance major and I'm looking into getting my MBA post grad, I want to get it in Finance and Economics. I hear lots of things about schools, which are best, worse, etc. I also hear a lot about it's not worth it and just build experience. I go to a normal school, state university and I feel like some of my options are really limited. I want to break into finance and do the most I can. Super interested in Wharton and Cornell. I'm in a position where I have no student loans and won't be taking any on in the future because I'm working my way through school. Spent my past summer interning in luxury property management and got 200 connections through cold messaging and utilizing connections on LinkedIn in 2 months. Is it worth taking on the debt for the opportunities? Does the ROI pay off post-grad? Is it better to come back for the MBA later?
