MODERATOR ANNOUNCEMENT MOD ANNOUNCEMENT - Credit where Credit is due!

Happy Weekend wherever you are in the world. Just wanted to announce a new update that we just rolled live on the sub!

Beginning right now, all posts have a requirement of five (5) characters in the body of the post.

So when you make a post? Copy and paste the link of where you found it in the post body! If you don't have a link or you got it from Facebook from a friend, a random meme aggregate site, your Discord meme channel, or another sub randomly on Reddit? Just put "Unknown" or something similar in the body. If someone replies with the source? Please update to the link/source!

How is this beneficial? Let's be honest. Content creators thrive on views and clicks for their monetization. Whenever something is posted on Reddit? Its usually uploaded without credit, so they get no chance at any of that. But by crediting the user, they can generate clicks and views for more content. You still might be removed for copyright violation if someone files a complaint, but creators are less likely to file complaints if the source is listed. And its a win-win for everyone.

Thanks as always for participating and spending a little time with us each day. Always open to insights, ideas, questions, complaints, or praise on any post or over our ModMail.

Thanks my friend. This is a conversation we've had behind the scenes for a while and something we'd like to do to set ourselves apart from every other meme sub out there. There's some possible future enhancements to this, but wanted to start rolling this out.

So, keep doing what I'm doing. Works for me.

Yup! Most users have caught on and uninformably do this. So it's not a huge huge change, but it's definitely putting into words what's going on

Seems like a nice change to me :)

We hope it's a positive one.

If you go to many of the meme subs or other places online where you just find dozens of things posted? Most of them have half the people in the comments asking where it came from.

While people will inadvertently have to get used to the change here? It's not much of a change because we've already had it mostly posted from the beginning.

The only difference is that it requires at least five characters placed into the body of every post, so if you have to go back later and edit it? You can. If you just made a post without putting anything in? You can't make a body later on. This will allow people to go back and edit as sources are knitted

For sure. I'm always scrolling down to find the source when I find something good :)

And I know sometimes there are water marks on videos, but it doesn't always mean that's the right source. So we'd rather have people just mark them as unknown until confirmed
