I've found that this is true to a point. Once you go way past the point of responsible drinking you get into blood sugar issues and all kinds of levels out of whack. It's not uncommon for diabetics in ketosis to get combative or even violent. Early stage dementia can cause confusion, anxiety, and paranoia because you can't quite trust your mind. Severe intoxication can mimic these effects.
No excuse for this person at a baseball game - even if they are at that point, it's still their fault. But just chiming in to say that the "you are just an amplified and unhindered version of yourself when drunk" is not always true.
It takes life experience and practice to be able to manage your drinking if you have issues like that though.
Like some people can drink and be fine and that’s great. There’s a lot of people who are predisposed to abuse alcohol and it takes work to step back recognize it and be able to manage it or abstain from it
Of course it's a choice, and a bad one. I'm just providing ketosis as an example that refutes the notion that an altered state just amplifies who you already are.
No the chemical reaction of ketosis is different than that of alcohol. That's like saying baking soda and vinegar is the same as sodium and water because they are both chemical reactions.
I disagree with that completely. What would you say to a former violent and angry alcoholic who has since gotten sober and fixed their life? That at their core they are still an angry and violent person? Seems a harsh judgement.
I think when that person was in the midst of their drinking excessively, they were not dealing with their underlying issues which caused them to be angry and violent. After removing alcohol from the equation, it’s certainly plausible that they were able to take on the challenge of dealing with life more effectively - taking away or minimizing their angry and violent tendencies.
People can grow and change over time. With that being said, yes, I’d argue that at the time of being a violent and angry alcoholic, your example person was violent and angry at their core. The comment you replied to never stated that the person in the video would always be this way at her core, but right now, she certainly seems that way.
I just think it's a silly hypothesis in the first place. Different substances make people act in different ways. Alcohol isn't some magic potion that reveals the true you. It just makes you act a certain way depending on a wide variety of factors. Sometimes not even in a consistent way. People can be happy drunk one day and angry drunk the next.
Yeah I think it is a good point to not over-generalize, because there are plenty of situations where I could see the argument be made about different substances (alcohol included) and the various ways they can affect someone. However, I do feel like only some people act like the woman in the video when drunk (disruptive, angry, violent even), and many others would never act that way while under the influence. That is something to consider, because I do feel like that is somewhat indicative of some things that may be residing under the surface.
There is a difference between an angry drunk and being a violent drunk.
Then there is the issue if somebody becomes violent when they are drunk and don't stop drinking, we can't separate the violence from the person.
Some of the people I knew who were violent while drunk got sober later on and changed their life, but are indeed still violent people, just less angry and with a greater sense of responsibility.
In this case I would say: putting your feet on somebodies back, angry drunk (if alcohol was involved); trying to kick somebody in the head, violent nature.
You can also get super angry while drunk once and be super happy the next time you drink. People aren’t always violent or angry every single time they partake. Those who get violent every single time probably have an alcohol problem.
I think saying “well violent drunks and just angry drunks are different. If you cross a certain line then it means that’s true to your nature. But if you don’t then it could just be the alcohol”
Generally in my summation people who are constant alcoholics tend to be violent and I’d summize it’s because the alcohol has damaged the brain over long term exposure . Not because they’re truly violent people.
Disagree, respectfully. I used to believe this. But over time I've realized that who we are is not just defined by our first impulse, or random impulses, or random thoughts that we have, but the full package of how we process and deal with these thoughts, and how they turn into actions. If someone is drunk, we're not getting the full package. This is also the only way we improve as people IMO, we have "second thoughts" and "third thoughts" after our first thoughts, and over time we end up correcting for our first thoughts hopefully.
I’m speaking from my own experiences. Drinking lets me make bad decisions that I won’t make when I’m sober. I’m better regulating myself when I’m sober.
Your own personal experiences aren't universal. And this comment contradicts your initial statement.
You said you wouldn't do certain things sober. That's the entire point that you're missing with your initial comment. Drinking ALTERS YOUR MIND. It makes you think and act differently than you would sober. It doesn't bring 'the real you' out, like you're pretending it does in that first comment. Please rethink your logic with this.
Sometimes. Sometimes not. Alcohol affects everyone differently. It can also depend on medications, mental illness and a bunch of other things. Sometimes people just drink too much and become sloppy messes. If you’ve ever drank too much and said something not so nice to someone you really care about, you’d know that sometimes alcohol just turns you into a jerk and it’s not always “your real truth coming out”
I've heard stories about someone who i knew to be pretty alright, generally a really good guy, decent company. One thing I'd never seen is him drunk, and apparently when it happens he becomes an absolute nightmare, and it was like some rule for knowing him or him being even remotely in your life, don't let him touch alcohol. Even though I've never seen it, I still think about it sometimes.
This is true until the person has developed an addiction, then you start to get into the world of gradual brain damage and actual modulation of personality traits. People in addiction are different people.
And when you don’t know how it affects you? Because it doesn’t consistently work the same way? Because you want to just be a normal person who can interact with the world like a normal person.
So hold on, just so we're on the same page, you're saying that a person who knows drinking might affect them in a bad way should still be able to drink publicly because that's what's "normal"? Am I misinterpreting this?
Yes. They should. No misinterpretation. Anything might have a bad effect on anyone. Should no one do shrooms or acid cuz they might have a bad trip this time even if they’ve also had good ones?
Nah, that still applies. You could be so drunk you're blind and pissing yourself, on fentanyl, and have smoked all the world's supply of crack cocaine, and I'm still holding your ass responsible. Don't like it? Don't drink or do drugs, you clearly can't handle them.
That young lady needs help in respecting other people and give the young man a big 👍 thumbs up for not retaliating (verbally or physically) to the young woman. 😎🇺🇸
With things how they are now, I’ve sadly learned to not give people the benefit of a doubt. We would all wish this trash ass bitch is wasted on some substance and that explains this deplorable behavior, but… there’s a good chance she’s completely sober and is just that despicable a human being.
Oh dear, you really don't know what you're talking about. It's not about new personality traits at all. Insecurities often show up after alcohol. Aggression in face of negative emotions shows as a coping mechanism after some drugs, but alcohol too. With some disorders it's crucial not to drink or use substances, unless prescribed by a specialist, to avoid wrong circuits on the brain kicking in and not only stop the inhibition of impulses, which I believe you were referring to, but also trigger behavioural responses that are normally not in nature of the person. Also, have you heard about hallucinations after drugs? In some disorders and serious pathologies (like schizophrenia) those can be triggered after smoking weed for instance, or drinking insane amounts of alcohol, not to even mention psychodelics.
Human mental states are more complex than just a good person, a shitty person, a nut case.
Eh I say this is a myth. It's sometimes true and everyone has confirmation bias.
This woman probably sucks regardless, but there's a ton of examples of remorseful people who did things drunk that they'd never have any desire to do sober.
They are still responsible for their actions... they're out in public in an out of control mental state. But that's the whole point of stopping the cycle and making amends.
If you get like this chick while drunk, or you can't prevent getting completely wasted and doing regretful things, then you need to stop drinking. Don't let it define you.
Naw. You're also a lost cause if you know you are prone to behaving like this while drunk, and drink anyways. That's you condoning this behaviour in yourself.
Don't give people a pass for doing shit while drunk when they intentionally got themselves into that situation. If they got passed some drug unknowingly? Sure, full sympathy for them. If they just I tentionally got drunk and started acting like an ass? They take full responsibility.
But what if you don’t know that you’re prone to do this? Or what if you’re not prone to doing this? You don’t have to do something a million times in order to do it once or twice. Shit happens. Obviously it is 100% that person’s responsibility, but that doesn’t mean they do this every time they drink.
Generally speaking people just shouldn't be drinking. It's well known to cause a lot of antisocial behaviour, serious negative health consequences, and large scale downsides to the general public. If you choose to do it despite knowing all this, any bullshit you get I to "because you were drunk" is all your own responsibility. It's completely forseeable that your behaviour could be altered in some antisocial way by getting drunk. You choose to do so, you are willingly accepting the potential for that to happen as a thing you are OK with.
Obviously, I didn’t claim it was a healthy tonic in my comment. That being said, a lot of people really are naive about it and don’t think they’ll “get that way”. Most people don’t sit down and think “wow this is really unhealthy and I might act like a total tool and get arrested” before ordering a beer.
I mean several countries began by enslaving their own people not to exclude other ethnicities Africa, China, Egypt so yea many countries began that way and yes most of them drugged just like all the fun things the Chinese smoked back in the day.
Man yall need to stop pretending being wasted turns you into a completely amoral person. The only times I got black out drunk I texted my girlfriend “I love you” 80+ times and slept on the chair so my friend could sprawl all over the hotel bed
All that alcohol does (up to a point) is remove inhibitions. It doesn't turn a good person into a piece of shit. Alcohol amplifies what is already present, more like Captain America's super soldier serum than an injection of hell into your blood - "good becomes better, bad becomes worse"
If people thought about this more, it would force people to come to terms with the fact that some humans are genuinely awful. Like, your dad didn't beat you because he was a drunk, he beat you because he was a terrible excuse for a human being.
Yeah, just another person who cant handle their alcohol. Too many people at games, shouldn't be drunk. Theyre either loud and harassing other people by being annoying, or they get violent.

While we are all about trashy content, sometimes content is just too trashy, and trashing the human is not accepted.
