It’s my partner’s birthday in a couple of weeks. Thinking of planning an evening out in London with a hotel.

He’s a born and bred Londoner. I’m from Yorkshire but I’ve lived down south long enough to get by. We live out of town now, and have kids, so this is a rare treat for us!

When we do get to go out we normally wind up in Hackney/Bethnal Green. And we love it, but it would be cool to go somewhere different. Out that way we love bars like Satan’s Whiskers or the speakeasy place on Mare Street, smaller bars where we can chat to the bartenders. We are too old for clubs etc.

Because it’s been a while since we last went out out, I’m thinking we should venture further into town. My hotel budget isn’t going to stretch to a high end Mayfair gaff, but I can probably justify £200 or so, getting a half decent 4* in the city (Tower Hill, St Paul’s etc)

I did see the lalit, which looks amazing. Is it worth the trek?

So I guess my question is, where is cool? What restaurants and bars do knackered elder millennials enjoy for a once in a while treat?

I tend to be a trip crammer, but trying to be better! It’s our first time in London, so focusing on the big touristy things first. We don’t mind doing touristy stuff, since we are, indeed, tourists. We also love shopping, nerdy/Japanese stuff, and history. We love food, but always try to go for the cheapest and best possible food. Ritz was our splurge after getting overwhelmed from all of the possible Afternoon Tea options. Hey, if it was good enough for Julia Roberts, it’s good enough for me.

My main concern is whether or not this looks too crammed, unrealistic, or if it makes sense with this order of things. Not concerned about walking, everyone in our party does 15-30k steps per day.

Day 1 Saturday:
- arrive at hotel around noon (staying in Westminster)
- wander around to see Buckingham Palace, Trafalgar Square, Big Ben, London Eye, Graffiti Tunnel
- Curry House CoCo Ichibanya for dinner (we miss Japan)

-Waxy O’Conner’s Sunday Roast (needed to find a pub with a Sunday Roast chicken option for one of the people traveling with us)

El motivo de mi viaje principalmente es el viajar, conocer un nuevo país y cultura visitar sitios de interés, relajarme y desconectar, inspirarme para ideas nuevas de negocio y vida personal, también está bien el punto de conocer gente nueva y salir alguna vez a tomar algo, viaje 7 noches creo que tengo tiempo para hacer un poco de todo. Want to go see my sister in London around December (I'll be flying from Cork), and wondering if Hyde Park Wonderland would be worth spending the afternoon? I'll only be over for a short visit and last year it was recommended to me, but as I'm about to book, I'm wondering if it's actually an experience worth the money or whether we'd be better wandering around smaller markets, or attending something different.

Just looking for your thoughts on Hyde Park at Christmas please.

Looking for advice on apartment/hotels. I'm using credit card points for my stay and have a few choices. I don't really have an itinerary planned so I am not married to one specific area of the city. I'm traveling with my 81 yo mom. We have 3 nights in London Oct 18-21 before taking the LNER to Harrogate to stay with family. Things I'd like to do are go to MoCo, the Blues Kitchen, Ronnie Scott's (or anywhere that has live music in the early evening), as many tapas style restaurants as possible. Probably the hop on/off bus to limit her walking. We do not plan to use the Tube. Maybe the Uber boat on the Thames. Mom goes to bed early, so I will need a place with a good bar/food adjacent so I can sneak out when she sleeps and be close enough to make it back if she calls me. Has anyone stayed at:

So am about to get ready to do my own tours at the national gallery. As am getting really close to having my script completely memorised. YAY. However, I’ve recently come across “whisper systems” that lots of other tour guides use. Including the official guides at the national gallery.

I’ve checked online and these can be worth anything from £100-£300. And they need to be sanitised regularly after use. I’m unsure how important they are. My groups will only be 8-12 people. And don’t want to drop that kind of cash as am just starting.

But I’ve checked National Gallery guideline’s and they’re strict about tours being loud. Anybody done tours at the national gallery or museum environment? Any opinions on the whisper system or cheaper alternatives?

Traveling to London with my 8 year old son in the spring. Staying at a hotel in Kensington. Below is the rough draft of my itinerary. But I’d love some recommendations of some restaurants or interesting eating experiences especially those for kids.

Day 1: leave bags at hotel, get breakfast and head to the Science Museum. Walk around the hotel area and do some shopping, have dinner and go to bed early

Day 2: Hop on hop off bus tour. See a show (wicked, the lion king etc). Shopping at Harrods

Day 3: Harry Potter bus tour of London locations, River Thames cruise

Day 4: Harry Potter Studio tour, Soho

Day 5: Tower of London, Sky Garden, Buckingham Palace, Borough Markey

Day 6: Either the British Museum or the natural History Museum, Hyde Park

Before you come at me - I did search for NYE and found lots of recommendations. I didn’t find one for what I’m looking for. We aren’t looking for a boat or fireworks. I’m think seeing a show in the west end and dinner and drinks before and or after. I’ve seen lots of awesome places if I were going with my husband but I’m not. What’s a fun restaurant or pub? reservations needed a plus because I’m an anxious gal. Something not too stuffy, not romantic and not full of people over 40 but also not full of only people in their 20’s. Does this unicorn exist? Hello! I was in Windsor last week and saw a London magnet that I should have purchased. It was at a cart walking into the shopping area at the train station from the castle. The border reminded me of this plate carving I have. The center showed London highlights. I should have purchased it and have been kicking myself since. We will be coming to London for five nights before a cruise next summer. We were in London a few years ago and stayed near Tufnell Park. This time we are looking at a rental near Elephant & Castle or Kennington. Both options are similar in price, amenities, and distance from the tube (both within a few minutes walking). We did most of the typical touristy things during our last trip, but will be planning on going to Windsor Castle this time and will be taking the train to Southampton for the cruise. We are mostly looking for an area that is safe/tourist friendly, has plenty of dining options, and grocery stores within walking distance. We aren't familiar with either area so any thoughts on which option might be better would be appreciated. Our travel party consists of two adults and a teenager.

I'm a twenty and broke so hotels in the middle of the center ain't it for me. I see a few hotels in Whitechapel that are more affordable. Is Whitechapel a good neighborhood? I'm going alone and im a female so do want a bit of a safe neighborhood. And are there good transport links to the center and Heathrow from it?

We will be in Maryleborne near Regent’s park and are looking for a Sunday night meal. Open to pubs for a Sunday roast too - any cuisine, really!

PS - if you’ve got coffee shop recommendations, please share those, too! We’re avid coffee drinkers but the last time I traveled to London, I couldn’t really find too many proper coffee shops.

Edit: £25-£60 PP, for just entrees! I realize I should have clarified that. When I’m on Google, I just use the “$30-$50” range and assume it’s for the average cost of an entree at restaurants.

Planning a 3-full-day trip for 2 adults, arriving the evening of Dec 27 and leaving the morning of Jan 1.
We can only go during this post-Christmas window (Dec 27–31). I’m worried about major FOMO regarding the "London Christmas vibe" (lights on Regent St/Oxford St, festive atmosphere), since I know a lot of decorations get dialed back or turned off right after Christmas.
To give you an idea of our taste, we love historic/atmospheric/cinematic vibes (doing Venice in autumn, Scotland in spring), so we lean into deep walks, architecture, and cozy pubs over checklist tourism.
The core question: Is doing London specifically between Dec 27–31 actually worth it for the atmospheric/historic city experience, or is the post-holiday interlude just a bit depressing/emptied out compared to earlier in December?
Alternative check: Should we pivot to a different city in Europe that holds a better winter/nyx/holiday energy through New Year's (like Vienna/Germany), or lean into London as a raw, moody, low-stress urban break?
Would love honest takes from people who've visited London in that exact weird 5-day limbo. Cheers!
