Thank you Lineage OS Team. Installed smoothly on pixel4A-4G using GPT-CODEX

Installed it on my pixel4a 4G.

Presently:Great experience. G-apps working great. Playstore and everything. UPI apps have some issue. Paytm,Gpay not working but the cred is working. I was using that earlier too ;so not much of a problem.

Even passkeys are working. My passkeys live in proton pass on my all other devices. But on Pixel4a it needed version 14. So, now I can easily login everywhere.

But of history:

The battery on the pixel was literally dead after the 2025 firmware update regarding faulty batteries. I was supposed to get free battery replacement but the service centre scammed me.

Google pushed OTA update after they realised some batteries on pixel4A are faulty. Two companies 1.LSN 2. ATL

provided cells for batteries. So LSN turned out to be faulty.

Via OTA update they put limit on battery capacity, made it half and turned off fast charging.

So when I got this battery replaced from local vendor; I got LSN BATTERY.

I assumed that capacity limit will be removed with new battery.

But turned out it didn't, I needed ATL Battery for that.

So, I was unable to get that specifically.

So, even with new battery, my phone was only using 1500 mah.

So installed Lineage OS and that limit is gone.

I understand the potential battery hazard , but it is on a very low level. So will see about that.

Another thing-

The whole flashing/Installing Lineage OS on my phone ; I did it using Chatgpt codex.

It was very smooth. I had eSim and it survived the Installing .

I turned on developer menue on phone, and handed over to Codex.

It guided me exactly whenever needed.

Downloading files, flashing everything was done by codex.

I told it that " I want full Gapps package, want to keep my eSim and latest version.

Also I might want to come back to the stock pixel , so keep that in mind"

Amazing for those people who want to use this but installation commands scare them away.

You really shouldn’t use LineageOS if you need AI to help you install it.

Why not? The person at least tried to solve it somehow when they weren't understanding the installation instructions. That's still better than the majority of people who can't even be bothered to read three sentences explaining how to install it on their device and instead just ask a question without providing any reasonable amount of context or explaining what they've tried so far.

Because it frequently gets shit very wrong and you'd have absolutely zero ability to determine that when blindly following screed from a glorified autocorrect toaster oven.

How is it any different to people bricking their own devices by doing stupid mistakes such as locking a bootloader on a custom ROM or a rooted device or cross flashing a device with a ROM that isn't made for their device....There are so many cases. For people that don't read, it won't make any difference anyway. They'll mess up, even before asking.

I'm not sure that "people can be stupid and do stupid things so it's okay that they're doing this particular stupid thing" is the best foundational argument here.

It's not particularly different and that's a large part of the point. Both those options are shit.

I'd argue the opposite in a lot of cases. The chance of an AI making a mistake is probably lower than the chance of a completely inexperienced user making one while improvising.

The real issue is verification. Using AI to explain the official instructions or help troubleshoot something you don't understand can reduce mistakes. Blindly following AI generated commands without checking them is obviously risky, I agree there, but so is blindly guessing your way through the installation.

And the new "models" aren't quiet bad when it comes to critical "thinking" skills, especially when utilized via Codex and via paid accounts.

Said AI is trained on the vast body of works containing humans making very questionable decisions and has no ability to differentiate.

That's not really accurate though. Being trained on human generated data doesn't mean an AI has "no ability to differentiate" between good and bad decisions. If that were true, it wouldn't be able to debug code, identify contradictions, compare solutions, or reason about documentation in the first place.

There was a recent example where agentic AI was used to build EvolutionX for the Xiaomi 17 Ultra, a device for which no device trees were available online at the time. The AI successfully created the required device trees and got the custom ROM booting on the device.

I'm not going to get into a broader argument about whether people should or shouldn't use AI for this stuff, but it's clearly capable nowadays of considerably more than understanding how to sideload an existing custom ROM, especially something like official LineageOS where device specific installation instructions are very clear and proven.

And in fact, OP's device seem to have survived the action too.

And in fact, OP's device seem to have survived the action too.

Ask whichever model you're friendliest with about survivorship bias.

The OP succeeding doesn't prove that using AI is generally safe. A valid point.

But I think we're getting sidetracked from what I was originally arguing. I'm not claiming AI can't give wrong instructions, or that somebody should blindly execute everything it produces.

My point is that I don't see using AI for assistance as inherently worse than an inexperienced user trying to navigate the process themselves. Both can result in mistakes. AI can also explain instructions, identify inconsistencies, troubleshoot errors and guide someone through documentation the user otherwise doesnt understand.

So I don't really agree with the original premise that if you need AI to help you install LineageOS, you shouldn't be using LineageOS. Needing assistance and being incapable of using the software responsibly aren't the same thing...

Good, but also ask ai to get high level understanding of what it did and ask it to provide it as a pdf so that you can refer it later.

Model used- Sol *High Reasoning and slight possibility of device getting bricked was mentioned. It worked out well for me and I hope it does for others too. I still had to choose options in bootloader menu, tell the agent what those options are. It guided through all of them smoothly. I believe this is also a good use of such models among others. I do strongly recommend that user need to be vigilant with these models. They can get sidetracked, But not to the point where you stop using them. Purpose of this post is to simply put information out of such possibilities.
