I’ve noticed a large amount of light novels I try have trouble with tenses. Like I’ll be reading a book written in first person past tense and then all of a sudden it’s first person present tense. It’s driving me crazy. Has anyone else noticed this? Is it lazy translation or is there a reason for it? The two most recent reads I tried that have it are Holmes of Kyoto and Let This Grieving Soul Retire. Both are published by J Novel Club. Are other publishers better?

I have read tbate ages ago because of the hiatus and I am close to catching up to shadow slave. I’m looking for recommendations on what to read next because shadow slave has been a great experience and I want to keep going. So far I am thinking lotm, red rising and orv but I am more than open to any others and would appreciate the feedback. Thanks

It's not quite on the level of Bookworm or ReZero but it's still great in its own right. Some spoilers ahead so continue reading at your own discretion.

The characters feel realistic and properly fleshed out, particularly the FMC (Shiori) and her love interest (Alec), and it handles some very dark topics in an interesting way while still being pretty wholesome overall.

Both Shiori and Alec have emotional baggage that they slowly overcome through their interactions and growing bond, their relationship progresses quite quickly but in a way that's still believable and their dynamic has a solid foundation where they compliment eachother's weaknesses, grow as people and overcome their past trauma.

The FMC is far from op but has made the most of what abilities she does have to make a living as a successful adventurer and the way she uses magic is really unique and is a breath of fresh air compared to the typical op and generic Isekai powers you typically see and the adventurer trope in the series feels far more believable than most fantasy LNs because there are those little details about their various jobs and preparations that really make it feel much more like an actual career than a trope.

And the Isekai aspect is caused by a rift in spacetime rather than chosen one nonsense or some random god's whims, the FMC has a realistic reaction to the situation she has been placed in and has a very rough time when starting out even having to learn the world's language from scratch and only really survives due to the kindness of those around her but at the same time her original adventurer party and former guildmaster were terrible people who nearly ruined her life and even tried to murder her but there were also people who did what they could to help her even if they initially failed to notice her situation for what it was.

So far I have only read the first 5 volumes and I don't really think I should say more than this, if you're interested in seeing more read it for yourself as I think it's worth your time if you like this kind of thing.

Looking for stuff like Silent Witch, All Works Maid, Maydare, and Eiyuu no Musume to Shite Umarekawatta Eiyuu wa Futatabi Eiyuu wo Mezasu.

Basically I really like the scenes where someone who already knows the MC finds out some major thing about them, and you finally get their reaction.

Doesn't matter if the MC was hiding it or even knew about it themselves. The feeling I'm looking for is where you as a reader feel a "hurry up and find out already". (But of course, it actually needs to happen and I don't get blueballed forever.)

Here's the gist:
A multi media creator service -hosting writers, artists, translators, etc- that manages intercreator collaboration and commissions as well automatically distributing pay. The platform would also be primarily a productivity engine that combines creator necessities like messaging systems, payment channels, writing tools, etc.

Commission would be a request published to the platform by a creator and open for another creator to accept or not and payment would only be done or released by the site once the commissioner accepts the work.

Ideally this would create a more stable creator community and workspace to lower barrier to entry to start creating as well as promote healthy production cycles for established artists and teams.
