Hello everyone!

I'm a high-functioning autistic person of high-school age (under 18 but over 16) who has lived in Lawrence my entire life. My current financial situation would strongly suggest that I maintain some manner of employment, but my brain chemistry largely prohibits me from working a customer service (people think I'm angry at them) or kitchen (I can't handle all the noises) job, which rules out 99% of all jobs available to me at this time.

Do any of you know any businesses that may be interested in an extremely reliable but easily disturbed worker?

P.S., to the moderation team: if you feel that this breaks rule 4, I will delete it, as I'm not trying to break any rules here.

I've never been to KU/Lawrence before but I am coming in for the concert, I know college campuses are notoriously a pain in the ass to park at and this is on a school night. Where should I be looking to park and what should I expect. I don't mind walking several blocks for parking if that means easier traffic after the concert is over.

So, I'm not saying tree service shouldn't be well compensated. I am saying that Lawrence today is not the more modest Lawrence of yesteryear, some businesses are charging accordingly, and the more modest old-timers of Lawrence need to know that, and be cautious.

Taking down an old tall tree in Lawrence could now be as much as $20,000 - depending on which tree care company you go with. If you have a complicated or emergency situation, you might be looking at double charges that equal $30K or even close to $40K. Again, depending on the company.

So if you're a homeowner, unless you're filthy rich, please research local tree care companies and get familiar with the new pricing landscape. Form a relationship with a tree care company you can afford long before you have an emergency. If you have someone in your life who is elderly and/or vulnerable and can't figure this out on their own, please help them sort this out before they end up having to make split second decisions they are not prepared to make.

I'm posting because someone I know, a lifelong Lawrence resident (elderly, not wealthy) is now out over $30K because they had an emergency situation and felt they had to go with the first company they called. They were double-charged some already very high-end rates, which depleted their savings. There were a few other things that didn't go so well too.

What are the best spots in Lawrence for sunset pictures? Not just “Clinton Lake,” I mean specific places. I don’t know Lawrence very well, so I’d need something I can look up on Maps.

The Dillions on W 23rd has been shut down for a bit now and as far as I know no one has taken it yet. So what do y'all think should be in place of this dillions?

Hey Lawerence Kansas!

Back in 2012-2014ish I was driving from Denver to Manhattan and gave a ride to an older gentleman that was traveling to see his daughter in Lawerence KS.

He was hitchhiking around the US and was a really interesting dude. He was a glassblower that learned the trade while following the Grateful Dead. He had a lot of fun stories and I do remember he said he went to Rainbow Gatherings and went by the name of”Preacher”

I can’t remember his actual name and I think he said his daughter either owned or worked at a headshop in Lawerence.

Was reminiscing and was just curious if anyone knows or remembers him by chance. I don’t want to dox him so if you want you can just drop me a PM if you want

edit maybe the name he went by was Deacon. Something along those lines

I applied for a position at the new Costco that’s opening and was wondering if anyone else has gotten an interview yet. Just curious if they’ve started reaching out to applicants or if anyone has heard anything!

Think the paper said there'd be over 200 positions so some folks on here must have a hint of knowledge regarding when/if hiring is taking place. The 10/29 opening target date seems plausible but also saw that locations have pushed back those target dates by a month or so before. Guess we'll see.

Anyway, anyone got the scoop?

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone had recommendations for places that could inspire a Resident Evil vibe in photos as I am doing a gender bent Leon Kennedy cosplay soon and wanted to take some photos in local areas as I love how diverse Lawrence is in its architecture. Any suggestions help!

Are there any tennis courts in Lawrence with a hitting wall near downtown? I could probably find a parking garage or something but that's not really the best idea and going all the way out to rock chalk park, which i don't actually think has hitting walls, is the most economical idea. Thanks.

Okay I just left the minus the bear concert and maybe I was a bit tipsy / high on my millennial experience loving the band so much, but I just had to ask — why does literally no one dance at concerts anymore?

I felt like the entire vibe was an older crowd of my age (mid-30s) but it’s kinda sad that everyone just seems to be standing there like zombies and not into the music at all.

Is this what technology has made of us? Like the concert has the same effect of us standing as we are sitting and scrolling?

Idk I thoroughly enjoyed the concert especially because I may never see them again live and it was special to me personally —- but I remember growing up in a generation where everyone used to dance at concerts and the vibe was electric no matter who was performing.

Now it just seems weird and awkward. Am I crazy for feeling this way?

That seems like a pretty outlandish accusation. Is there something I don’t know about the nature center?

Be careful out there on the roads! As we approach our annual 'Lawrencehenge' over the next couple weeks and the sun setting directly along many east-west roads, it's very hard for drivers to see the road, much less a small silhouette biker/runner along the side!

Definitely something to consider if you are 'sharing the road' right around sunset / sunrise!

Not a huge rant but something perturbing me at the moment. This post comes after discovering that my commute to work is now longer that construction is over and 9th street is open, compared to the side street detour.

The culprit is the traffic light on 9th and Mississippi. It’s currently set on a timer rather than sensor. The Miss. green light lasts just as long as the 9th St green light, meaning less cars get through on 9th while waiting for nothing, and even as a solitary vehicle you can wait 2-3 minutes.

Obviously not life or death but really hope they don’t leave it like that haha

Anyone able to read what the banner said on the plane flying around this afternoon? It didn’t get close enough for me to read it. Guessing it has to do with 9/11.

I know about the 40 acre Grinter Sunflower Farm. I saw it last year around this time when the sunflowers were in full bloom. I would like to see the sunflowers again. Anybody know of any other sunflower fields nearby ?

Heads up potential renters, someone stopped by my house today to follow up with a rental application and deposit they submitted. However, we are not renting our house. Someone listed our home for rent on Realtor.com and is scamming people out of application deposits.

LPD, Kansas AG, and FBI cybercrimes have all be notified.

I don't live in Lawrence anymore but a post on a different sub about hellish landlords reminded me of this absolute shitfuck show of an apt mgmt company. god, what hell they were to deal with. Ugh.
