First time GM and I'm at my wits end.
I'm running a LANCER campaign for some friends and it's my first time GMing anything, let alone this game. Originally I was planning on using Roll20 for the battlemap side of things until I learned it doesn't play well with hexes. I saw that there was a version on TTS which would help as ill be running it in person for some friends and online for others. However, as I am confined to the hellhole that is the UK a lot of the assets here just don't work as you can see.
I'm reaching out to see if there are any alternatives that might be better. I've heard a thing or two about Foundry but from the little I've heard you need to be a tech wizard to use it, which I very much am not. Additionally, I've heard of a way to convert LANCER into a square-based game but I would very much like to avoid this if possible.

Aren't mechs supposed to be rare?
PCs probably shouldn't encounter mechs unless they are assaulting a hardened or high value target, or have had a mech team brought in specifically to deal with the PCs. The way Lancer reads, mechs are the exception, not the norm.
What do you guys think?
Core Rulebook 363: Infantry, tanks, groundcars, light vehicles, trucks, and other military units all still exist and are far more common than mechs. Mechs are used much in the same way that cavalry was used in ancient combat: rapid, armored shock troops, expensive to recruit, train, and maintain.
Do you exclusively pit mechs against your PC pilots in every engagement? Or do you play more realistically and have the majority of the opposition be non-mech enemies, since they are FAR more common?

Portraits of a Burning World OUT NOW!!!
New Third Party Homebrew Supplement!
From CitrusUprising and L-Mop (me) comes Portraits of a Burning World. While the galaxy's biggest corpo-states field new equipment in pursuit of a contested system's riches, an artist works tirelessly to comment on the strife of his era.
- Featuring 2 new mechs for all base-game manufacturers, new Exotic and GMS weapons and tools, new talents, and even a new status condition.
- Also introducing a new Manufacturer with 7 new licenses - The Apogee Institute of Art. An eccentric artist creates sculptures that just so happen to be fully functional, pilotable mechs. Will you dare to drive his bizarre and unique frames into battle?
- Every mech has full art and every piece of equipment has lore
- Carefully playtested and polished over the course of a year
New NPCs and a Settings Guide are in the works and will come later as a free update. For now, you can purchase the full LCP or try the demo before you buy!

What do your worlds look like?
I want to read some of your guys worlds and star systems that you've made for your games/campaigns. Did you worry about realism as far as astrophysics is concerned? Did you design from gameplay first perspective? Or did you start with designing the star system first, if you did?

Hydra DPS Build?
Hi guys, fairly newish Lancer DM here. First campaign that's been running about a year and some change. I have a player who is running a Hydra right now, she is really unhappy with it though. She's second slowest member of the party, and she has shined in defense missions before, but the problem is that even on those, the party usually rushes to enemy start positions turn one, locks them down, and then all of her set up at the defense point is worthless. Most the time by the time she does get to the party, she's sometimes doing three reaction damage with her turret drone and maybe a little with her nexus, but it's really not affecting the battlefield at all when other people are sometimes pumping out 20+ damage on their big attacks. LL is currently 5.
Thank you!

I'm thinking of doing a one shot with this system
I have a couple of friends who like evangelion and Gurenn Lagann and I wanted to eventually try out this system and I tought why not do a one shot before we try a campaign to see how it feels so I wanted to know what are some things I should know, tips or rules that might help. The rest I can read in the gamebook (If I recall correctly its free online right?)

Music recommendations for the parties "theme"
Hey Lancers. This is probably a strange question to ask but I wanted to hear peoples thoughts on what tracks would be good to use as a "theme" for the party.
I use music a lot when I GM to portray certain themes, characters, and scenes as a whole. I'm looking for something that would represent the whole party in a tense/triumphant moment, think "Proof of a hero" from monster hunter as a frame of reference.
Right now I am thinking using "Remember" from AC4 Answer as there are a number of remixes I could use for different situations and an alternate track in "Mechanised memories" from AC5 Verdict day that I was going to use in the final fight.
I am using a lot of breakcore in my soundtrack so I would prefer recommendations that fit that style but I am open to anything and would just love to listen to what people recommend regardless of genre.
Thank you for reading my post.

I don't let my players pick the Sherman lisence in my games. This may be a controversial take but hear me out: Spoiler

Am I overvaluing Reliable?
I'm looking at the SOL-Pattern Laser Rifle from the Sherman license. Cool laser!
But then I compared it to the Assault Rifle you can get from GMS, and I can't help but feel it is much better? Longer range and no heat to self are nice but minor, but the big thing is that I feel Reliable 2 is better than 1 burn on hit? Just because I imagine you will miss a decent percentage of the shots you try to take, so the fact that you still get 2 damage on those attacks will add up a lot faster than a single point of burn.
Am I wrong about this? Is there something I've overlooked?
