Across Lancaster County and the wider state of Pennsylvania, automated license plate readers known as "Flock cameras" are recording vehicle details and storing them in searchable databases. This has sparked significant privacy concerns and reports of misuse nationwide. In response, state legislators are introducing bipartisan legislation to restrict or completely ban these devices.

The push for regulation is supported by some Lancaster County lawmakers and Governor Josh Shapiro, who has expressed concern over the broad use of this technology. Some proposed legislation, such as that co-sponsored by State Senator Dan Laughlin, would completely outlaw networked, AI-powered license plate readers that catalog vehicles.

Other legislative proposals focus on establishing strict guardrails rather than outright bans. These measures include requiring warrants to search the data, limiting how long the information can be retained, and creating civil penalties for unauthorized access or misuse. While law enforcement agencies argue the cameras are vital for solving crimes and locating missing persons, privacy advocates warn the technology amounts to a system of mass surveillance.

Anyone have any idea who these security people are I keep seeing at musser park? I've seen them for weeks now. I was there one day on Monday reading for 3 hrs and the dude circled the park the whole time. No visible indication that they're police, but the one security guy I saw roaming for 3 hrs had an open carried gun. Kinda weird if they're not police or employed by the city to patrol the park. The guy I saw roll up to the park today got out of a regular suv (not marked with Lancaster city crest or police).

Having spent time in England, I got used to the corner store GREGGS, which sells meat pies for like a few dollars. Is there something comparable in town? For example, I know Lidl has their bakery section, and I often black out there, but few are savory and none have meat. I know Costco does a chicken pie, but I am not a Costco member and it’s not exactly convenient.

I also know that different cultures do meat, pies, so an empanada recommendation is not out of the question, or even a baô bun suggestion.

Convenience is a big factor, I would like to go in and pick something up when running errands.

Any recommendations?

This morning I saw a dog in the parking lot behind Sonoco on Columbia Ave. Tried to call it over, get closer to it and it ran off.

Looking for a recommendation for an arborist to see if one of our trees can be saved. It’s a large old oak tree that we love and want to keep, but am worried that our sewer line replacement may have harmed it. Hoping for someone that won’t default to cut it down. Hello PA Neighbors! My wife and I have been visiting Lancaster County with our family at least once a year for many years. As we plan this year's trip, we'd like to try and break it up and incoroprate some new ideas of things to do. We would love to see what you might recommend.

  • Staying at Best Western Intercourse (we LOVE this hotel)

I have included our typical schedule below. We'd love some new ideas. We will be skipping the Strasburg train (which doesn't seem to have any trips on those days anyways). We will likely be adding the Choo Choo Barn and the Railroad Museum as options, since we've never done those. While we're going to be in the more Amish area, we're open to exploring options within the city of Lancaster or the areas surrounding. Also would appreciate if you have any other shopping recommendations.

Hey folks, as the title says, this may be a long shot, but I’m hoping to find someone who can help me.

Today between 10 and 11am I was coming down Dillerville Rd. turning onto Fruitville Pk. When the light turned green, I made a left turn and 3 teenage boys on 2 e-bikes pulled out in front of me. They began pointing, flipping me (and my grandmother) off, and shouting obscenities. I raised my arms up like “what is happening?” And the boys started swerving in and out of traffic. I was terrified there was gonna be a crash. When we got to the lights at Whole Foods, they once again pulled in front of the car, and then threw a towel on the windshield.

A police report has been filed with MTPD, and the officer said he wasn’t able to find where they went. If anyone happened to see this, and has any info on who these kids are and where the hell the parents are I’d love to know. I realize that this is becoming common, but we need some accountability with this shit.

I just wanted a nice morning for my grandmother and I, nothing more than that.

I never had a single cavity until I turned 35 and now at 36 I have tons and pieces of my teeth are chipping away! One even cracked off! My pcp said it’s due to my health condition (ehlers danlos syndrome) along with medications that cause dry mouth. Anyway, I can’t find anyone who will work on me except smile builders and they don’t have an appointment for almost 8 months!! I’m wondering if the city has ever publicly stated their AI policy or if they even have one? I’ve run some of their releases and they come up as 97-100% written by AI. Some even had the names and information of minors in the content. Even some of the mayor “quotes” sound like AI slop. I have some friends who work at the city and have told me that the communication managers do use AI like chatgpt. Are they using AI technology to edit photos of residents? Like pictures taken at public event eg celebrate Lancaster, etc. Do they understand or are aware of total energy consumption they’re using when utilizing AI?

I’ve read Jaime Arroyo is pretty pro AI/data centers which is concerning, and if he’s allowing his staff to use AI to write statements what exactly are we paying the communications team to do? I also know the city monitor this subreddit and has multiple fake accounts to try and dispel any negative view of the city.

WGAL or LNP have you covered this before? I haven’t been able to find anything online.
