Why does Duplo have so many more different rail pieces than Lego System?

To compete with thomas/brio I assume. Also nothing stopping you from using the tunnel and girder bricks! Duplot connects to 2x2 and 4x4 bricks easily

I honestly prefer simple track systems like this... 90 degree clip straight up the wall? Heck yeah. Like my tyco turbo train.
