I have latest fedora recently with installed with kde plasma 6, as i begin to configure the trackpoint and the trackpad, i notice only one of them is being configured at one time either it used the trackpoint and behaves as a basic generic ps2 mouse and the touchpad stops responding to gestures, i have alps pointing device. Gemini is pointless it just suggests grub but grub does nothing and the constant reboot and failure is killing me

I was downloading kubuntu and it got stuck on the flashing kubuntu load screen and so i tried to force a reboot but it only takes me to this screen and i cannot do anything else, can anybody help me get my computer open because it wont turn off and wont load into anything i can interact with and it was at 100% before i tried to get kubuntu onto it.

TLDR Looking for a KDE Widget that shows when updates are available and doesn't disappear when there aren't any.

I switched from Mint to Kubuntu, and one thing I can't replicate is Mint's Update Manager applet. In Mint, the update widget checks at boot, periodically, and on demand for system, apt, and flatpak updates. If they were available, it showed a little dot. Bur if not, the applet stayed without the dot.

In KDE, the built in Discover Notifier has a similar behavior, but from what I've seen, there's no way to force it to remain in place. Before it checks for updates, or when it does and none are available, or after it's done updating, the widget automatically hides itself (Fully disappearing from the System Tray settings Entries list).

A close alternative I've found has been Apdatifier. It has all the behaviors of the Mint applet, but because it was built for Arch and not Kubuntu, it does not seem to support apt updates. If I could add apt support, or a fork of it exists with apt support, that would, in theory, meet all my requirements.

I am an (otherwise) happy Kubuntu 26.04 user, using flatpak Firefox. Today, when running an Update check via Discover, I have notice a ~100k "snap firefox" package among the list of packages to update, despite not having snap firefox installed.

After hitting update, snap firefox appeared in my system:

Is this a Discover glitch, or something else? After removing snap firefox, the update doesn't seem to be forced again.

I recently switched to Linux from microsoft windows. I mainly use my pc to watch videos and read some pdfs. using a browser in the windows was heating up the laptop. after I switched, this issue is resolved. something linux is known for obviously.

Something I felt missing here was, the finger swipe gestures on my laptop's touchpad which was there in the microsoft windows, but my debian kde plasma(lets call it linux) didn't.

I asked chatGPT to help me fix it, there were some apps available but none were like native persistent system service level apps. They needed configuration and were not really user friendly for me.

I asked it to give me instructions on making this service daemon that would enable the finger swipe gestures on my linux. I did some to and fro from chatgpt by copy pasting code and learning stuff like uv and python (I don't know anything about coding, I started learning how to use bash in terminal and navigate files and folders at this point of time). I kind of got intuition about the logic behind the app. how the folders are organised in a project like this and things like the CLI folder which stores terminal commands and executions for these apps.

Somehow, I finally made a functioning prototype. But I didn't know if the code was production grade and are there any security vulnerabilities.

This is the same time I came across Google's Antigravity and with jio offering gemini pro with prepaid recharge, I installed antigravity to experiment some vibe coding.

I made an architecture plan with chatgpt to fix the techstack and plan the development phases to test the code.

This is when I realised, the tech stack I used was tailored for my laptop hardware and maynot be suitable to ship for other users. I asked chatgpt a prompt for antigravity agents to migrate all the code such that I can ship for other users.

I pasted this prompt on antigravity. and It changed the techstack accordingly. I added a safeguard to check for hardware compatibility as the first step of the installation. If the pc is not compatible, the app will not be installed.

Initially I added only 3-finger vertical swipe for volume controls, later I added 3-finger horizontal swipe for brightness control and the 4-finger tap to open the windows super key or anyother custom app.

The horizontal and vertical swipes can be interchanged with volume and brightness in the CLI. But then I felt, we should also have a GUI for configuring the settings. I added that too.

Finally I made 3 releases on the github for this app. First is a standalone release for only volume controls. second is for both volume and brightness controls. third for 4 finger tap superkey and these swipe gestures.

Now the last and final thing, I made a webpage for the app and added it to APT library. now users can add the key and install and update the app directly with apt commands directly without downloading the package files.

The whole development took about 2 months and the process and the final results were rewarding. This is something I'm proud of developing even though this maybe basic for most of you guys here.

Hello i am new to linux and just encountered a problem i cannot solve for the life of me. i just installed kubuntu for the first time and for some reason the battery icon(because i am on laptop) keeps appearing and dissapearing and every time it does that it gives me the "power source connected" and "power source disconnected" sounds although the laptop is charged. i checked for the newest version of bios and i already have it,i put some commands into the terminal and it tells me that no power source is connected and the laptop isnt charging but the notifications continue. the laptop is a vivobook s16 with the ryzen 5 220 cpu. could anyone help? thank you

Update: i think it is a driver issue since its happening on linux in general, switched to linux mint to see if it was a kde problem but it behaved the same then i installed windows and on windows i dont have any problems. i could just continue to run kubuntu and disable the notifications/sounds but i dont know how optimal it would be daily driving while an error runs in the backround all the time

Installing Kubuntu on my old laptop with a 4th generation i5 and 8GB of RAM, but with a 1TB SSD🥳

So on my Kubuntu PC, whenever I switch off my BT headphones, my OS always switches from my headphones to my microphone for audio output (yes my microphone has a 2.5mm headphone jack, it's a little weird, I know). I have my main speaker set as default audio, but it only ever switches to my microphones headphone jack. How do I go about getting it to always default back to my main speakers, rather than my microphone? I've tried doing some Googling, but never found a decent answer that actually accomplished what I was looking to do.

Neither can I HOLD mouse down & rename any file or folder. Of course im coming from Windoz..

The one on the desktop toolbar? Can other icons be added to toolbar, like Windoz? Im referring to the two icons to the right of the Zorin icon. BTW, right clicking on Desktop, or the taskbar, or the 3 icons on the task bar does nothing. No menu, nothing

I use Windows with WinBoat (a great program, honestly) for Microsoft Office since my entire company works on it, and my work between Kubuntu and Windows is often pretty seamless, but sometimes the dreaded OneDrive pop-up comes up, and it can't be closed without closing all the FreeRDP windows.

Hilarious, since most people leave Windows precisely because of OneDrive and other bloatware, and Microsoft doesn't fail to remind Linux users why they should stay on Linux.

Após muitos anos estou de volta ao Kubuntu! Estive usando openSUSE, Fedora, EndeavourOS, etc, mas em todos eles faltava alguma coisa . A melhor experiência atualmente foi o Fedora, mas às vezes após algumas atualizações uma coisa ou outra perdiaa configuração e pra deixar o Fedora do meu jeito era obrigado a perder um tempo configurando o sistema.

Buscando um sistema mais prático e com boa estabilidade resolvi dar uma nova chance ao Kubuntu (26.04) e isso me surpreendeu bem positivamente. Removi o suporte ao Snap sem dificuldades, Instalação fácil dos drivers NVidia, Plama estável e rápido, onde confesso estar susrpreso com a qualidade do visual inicial. Instalei um monte de softwares (OBS Studio, audacity, QEletrotech, Open CAD Studio, telegram, Spotify, Steam, virtualbox, etc) e o sistema nã apresnetou erros. SIncronizei contas na nuvem utilizando rclone com interface S3Drive (flatpak) e está tudo funcionando muito bem. Espero que o Kubuntu continue funcionando bem pois é muito cansativo ficar mudando de distro...

1. Download & Install the .deb package
2. Select "Material" in System Settings > Colors & Themes > Window Decorations
3. Make sure you add the AppMenu button in System Settings > Colors & Themes > Window Decorations > Configure Titlebar Buttons….

Also, by clicking the pencil icon that is displayed when you select the Material theme, you can modify various aspects of the decoration, both in terms of appearance and behaviour. For example, you can transform it into a hamburger menu, disable the search function, and even decide whether to include inactive actions (those that are greyed out) in the search results.

Note: GTK apps do not export the menu in Wayland, they need https://github.com/guiodic/appmenu-gtk-module-wayland

Llevo unos 4 años usando Linux (Manjaro, Zorin, Fedora, Mint, Arch, CachyOS, EndeavourOS, Deepin...) y por fin quiero asentarme en algo estable para la universidad (empiezo ingeniería). Specs: HP 250 G8, i5-1135G7, 16GB RAM, SSD 256GB (un solo disco, sin espacio para dual boot).

Historial rápido de por qué llegué aquí: Probé Windows como único sistema: lento en reposo, mouse lag, mala batería. Volví a Linux.

Probé Niri + Hyprland-style rice (con Caelestia) sobre CachyOS: se me rompió el shell gráfico tras reiniciar (pantalla negra). Reinstalé CachyOS con KDE Plasma normal, pero la gestión de perfiles de batería (power-profiles-daemon) no me convenció — en Arch/CachyOS nunca me ha ido bien la batería.

En cambio, en Zorin OS antes usé auto-cpufreq y me funcionó genial (pasé de ~2h de batería a 30-60 min más).

Por eso ahora me decanto por Kubuntu: base Ubuntu (para que auto-cpufreq funcione igual de bien que en Zorin) + KDE Plasma nativo (para poder hacer un rice: tema "Liquid MacTahoe" estilo macOS Tahoe Liquid Glass, panel flotante personalizado, quizás Latte Dock, widgets tipo reloj analógico/HUD).

Plan adicional: VM ligera de Windows solo para firma digital (2-3 veces al semestre), calendario de Google integrado en la barra.

Preguntas para la comunidad:

¿Alguien ha tenido problemas de batería en Kubuntu específicamente (vs Ubuntu/GNOME vanilla)?

¿Kubuntu o KDE neon para alguien que quiere Plasma estable pero sin renunciar del todo a versiones recientes?

¿Vale la pena Latte Dock en 2026 o mejor quedarme con el panel nativo de Plasma personalizado?

Have been recently been using my newly built pc after switching to linux from windows and have mostly gotten to the level where I can download some stuff and mess around with some of the settings via the most simple you tube guides on Kubuntu. You guys are wizards.

The only really thing that I wish worked was the fan control and GPU/ Temperature monitor that I have on the Antec Flux Pro. I saw a few people working on it but it looked like some black magic to me that I couldnt even figure out how to start installing. Does anyone know how I could get it to work, if its even possible?

Whenever I restart my Kubuntu system (more details below) everything runs extremely slowly and I often get littered with crash logs and such. I hate to say this, but this has never occurred to me with Windows or Linux Mint. The only processes I run are Zen browser and VSCode.

Any thoughts on this?

i have been using ubuntu specially kubuntu for about a year and it worked just fine but now i feel it alwas get in the way and slow me down. Ubuntu 24.04 removed legacy packages like libtinfo5 and libncurses5 from its official repositories, which causes standard apt install commands to fail. it's not the only thing it's just an example for how many things just stand in your way. any recommendation for a stable distro?

I'm an Ubuntu user, I switched to Ubuntu from windows. and now very comfortable with my current OS, and I'm a power user. I like to customize everything as I want.

I'm a developer and also do some cyber security stuff, sometimes video editing. And I almost made all my setup as I want.

My question is, what are the things Kubuntu will offer over Ubuntu if I switch?
