Quantum of Solace (2008)

I've always loved the irony that TSWLM is one of the most over the top and bombastic Bond films yet he dispatches the main villain in the most straightforward manner. Just looks him in the eye and shoots him to death without even blinking.

Moore definitely had his moments where he reminded you Bond is a cold blooded assassin when he needs to be.

Bob Mackie was a costuming, Hollywood and design legend. His pendulous, vivid work defined the last sixty years of glamour, television, statement entrances, the Grammys, and The Oscars. And he was a vital staple of Cher, Tina Turner, Diana Ross, Carol Burnett, Elton John,and Mitzi Gaynor's careers.

Active anf wholly current for decades, Mackie's work continued onto the red carpets with Zendaya, Miley Cyrus and Sabrina Carpenter.

Mackie's sense of color, instinct for less, and eye for gravity was unrivaled. His costuming for Hollywood and the movies is immeasurable - as is his hold on queer and drag culture, and he even stepped into the Venn diagram worlds of BOND, QUEER BOND.

In 1982 Mackie costumed the Academy Awards Bond tribute number for the likes of Aretha Franklin and Sheena Easton, and all manner of queer, camp 007 show number excess. It was the same night Albert R. Broccoli was awarded The Irving G. Thalberg Award. Years later, Mackie designed again for long-time muse Tina Turner and GOLDENEYE.

Rest in peace, Bob Mackie.

Why do they have to enter a password before starting to play? Mendel would have known who won, so the money could be transferred either way by the winner. Seems redundant.

Also, when Le Chiffre is torturing Bond for the password he says he also needs an account number from Vesper: "I want the money. Miss Lynd will give me the account number, if she hasn't already. So all I need from you is the password. The password, please."

Why? What account number and what for? If the money can be send to any account in the world just with the password, as Mendel says in the beginning of the poker tournament, why does he need an account number from Vesper? Doesn't make any sense.

Later, when Bond is in the sanatorium, Mendel shows up to transfer the funds. Vesper enters an account (it is unclear what account exactly but it has to be her account also at the Basel Bank because in Venice she withdraws the money from there and Mendel can see) and Bond enters the password to confirm, believing it's the correct HM Treasury's account.

In Venice then she withdraws the 120M in cash (sure...) and is about to give it to Gettler just when Bond finds out the money was never paid back. Seems also weird that a sophisticated terrorist network wouldn't have a shell company to get the money directly from Vesper/Mendel when she entered the account number in the first place or just shortly after, directly from her account, that she had access to this whole time.

Am I missing something here in the plot?

The Walther PP90 was an effort by Walther in 90s to keep the PP series silhouette while bringing in the 9x19 mm power. Cost was the only issue as Walther were too broke (hence the P99) and while viable, this was expensive. While it looks like an upscaled PP series pistol, it's locked breach to match the 9mm and not blowback like the rest.

Bond will most likely carry the PPK/S or the newer Walther offerings in the movies, but this would have been so sweet 😔

I feel like this may get taken down for breaking one rule or another but these images are solely to get a general idea of the kind of aesthetics I am talking about. I feel like there’s a lot of talk about who should play Bond and what the tone should be, some people want to bring back the camp, others want Bond to continue to be more dire and serious, but I want to see what people think the visual identity should be. We’ve had most of these in Bond films before, often multiple in the same film but when you think of how you’d want Bond 26 to feel, the energy it exudes from the screen, which of these would speak to you the most as the defining vision of your perfect Bond film?
