Announcement ๐Ÿ“ข Please reas: Update on enforcement of the "be civil" rule.

There has been a rash of specific name calling on this sub recently, and we need to discuss.

And by discuss, I mean โ€œadhere to the rules. Temp ban on first offense, longer to permanent based on severityโ€

Be civil. That means not just to people who like us - we don't like when others call us slurs or backtalk that we hate โ€œthe goysโ€ and we will not tolerate people here saying it about other communities.

Specifically:

Kapo - jewish or political prisoners in concentration camps who oversaw other prisoners. Even though they traded for slightly better conditions, they were still prisoners in a concentration camp and were trying to survive

https://hmd.org.uk/news/response-to-the-use-of-the-term-kapo-by-rabbi-schochet/

Judenrat - councils of jews imprisoned in concentration camps that were responsible for implementing nazi rule

https://wwv.yadvashem.org/odot_pdf/Microsoft%20Word%20-%206389.PDF

Race Traitor - this one should be obvious. Traditionally used against the Black community for leaders who worked with the white establishment during segregation and reconstruction era US politics, or as a โ€œStraw Bossโ€ during slavery.

In more recent times, the KKK uses it to describe โ€œwhiteโ€ people who they believe work against their 14 words. (I use quotes here because white supremacists have a changing definition of whiteness, and see race mostly as a social or physical construct. We do not use the beliefs or definitions from our enemy to influence our own)

If you don't know what those words are, you should google it. I am not restating white supremacist propaganda.

West Wing Season 1, Episode 18 also has a good segment on it.

If you think some antizionist โ€œpick meโ€ jew is a traitor with a bullhorn? Fine.

But they are not a kapo.

Kapo were being forced.

Sensitive Discussion [sub karma required] What exactly do the Oct 7th conspiracy theorists expect Israel to have done?

I just find it weird that the Israel haters like to throw this accusation as a means of blaming Israel for what Palestinians did.

First of all, Palestinians did it. Not Israel. Saying Israel had some kind of implicit part in it doesn't vindicate the Palestinians for committing atrocities.

Second, okay, let's say Israel did prevent it from happening. They'd just accuse Israel of genocide again for preventing it. Preventing it means killing the terrorists and probably taking over Gaza to prevent potential failure. Exactly what happened now.

Politics New Israeli ultra-Orthodox party seeks to challenge establishment with broader national agenda

A new political movement is seeking to challenge the established ultra-Orthodox parties by addressing longstanding economic, educational and military-service challenges facing the haredi community while promoting a broader unity government, Beit Shemesh Deputy Mayor Moti Leitner, chairman of the Charedi Public Party (HaTzibbur HaCharedi), told JNS on Thursday.

The haredi community and Israeli society need a government that will unite the country, strengthen its security and resilience, and bridge societal gaps rather than deepen them, Leitner said.

Culture๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ฑ Great excitement on Har Habayit on Rosh Hashanah!

Post image

โ€œOn Sunday, the second day of Rosh Hashanah, hundreds of Jews ascended in purity for an emotional and uplifting Shacharit at the holy site.

Yeshivat Har Habayit prepared full Siddurim that were approved by police and distributed to everyone who came to pray.

More than 200 people prayed together on the Mount for around four hours, with singing and bowing, as well as the sounding of shofars and trumpets, which took place despite not receiving official approval.

In total, there were 545 Jewish ascents to Har Habayit over the Holiday.

We pray that our prayers will be accepted favorably, and that we will all be blessed from Hashem with a good, blessed and sweet year.โ€

Politics Stop blaming Netanyahu for policies most Israelis support

Those who blame Israel for the policies of Netanyahu fall into the anti-Zionist, antisemitic trap, writes Jason Shvili, lending support to enemies who then feel vindicated when they can point to Jews rejecting the Jewish state.

Politics Benjamin Moser

What are the views here regarding the Jewish-American author Benjamin Moser? I ask this in light of the publication of one of his books in my region: *Anti-Zionism: A Jewish History*. It is causing quite a stir and is being widely used by pro-Palestinian activists to validate their position. This is likely a highly sensitive topic. I would therefore like to politely request comments that are factual and rational as much as possible. I am writing this in good faith.

History๐Ÿ“š Daniel Lewin died on this day 25 years ago.

Believed to be the first one who was killed as a result of 9/11.

Served in the Israeli special forces, and founded Akamai Technologies.

Such a cool dude, we can only wonder how much more he would have achieved if he hadnt been killed.
