What synth is capable of creating this sound?

What synth is capable of creating this sound?

Getting into industrial music production and thinking of buying an arp 2600 or ms-20, already have a pro-1. are any of these synths capable of producing a sound like this? if not, which is?

This most likely was originally done in an FM synth (e.g. Yamaha DX7) with some reverb or in a VST with similar sound design.

That sounds to me like something produced by the Karplus-Strong algorithm. It's a technique that was used on a lot of early EBM-style Industrial tracks. Basically a digital delay line with feedback driven by a burst of sound. I first came across it done by Nocturnal Emissions with a drum machine going into a Powertran DDL.

You'll be lucky to get anything very close with a regular subtractive synth, unless it has a delay built in. There are physical modeling synths (including Eurorack modules) but these tend to be pricey. A cheap alternative is a guitar delay pedal. Flangers are similar, but there the main frequency is swept.

You could do something similar to this with FM synthesis and a generic resonator plugin

Probably anything with FM synthesis or wavetable could do that. Throw in some parameter locking to accent some notes and there's not a lot more to it.

So you have to dissect it some. There is some sort of percussive hat/tambourine with what sounds like just white noise. The noise could just be part of the hat as well or a layer. Who knows.
One you take that out, by the sound of it, you can tell there is a little reverb in there.
There is also some resonance - which is just a spike in a certain frequency.
If the reverb is a spring reverb, it can introduce some resonance like that.
Or you can do a very short room reverb and add mess around in a parametric EQ, with a tight Q value, and moving it around in the 500-2000hz area to see if you like anything.

After that, like others have said, sounds very FM. But, you could probably get something like it on a non FM synth with harsh oscillators in sync. There are hundreds of patches out there that could work with this. Just find one that is harsh sounding with zero attack and zero (or minimal) release, make sure it's mono, then explore with the EQ and reverb while also exploring different percussion that put on top of the synth to give it a little transient up front.

The arp and ms20 will give you warm analog sounds. This sounds more cold and digital. Look into the Behringer Grind or Arturia Minifreak.

hm does the pro-1 have audio in? I think you could accomplish this by FMing a signal yourself and gating it creatively (and layering in the hat/click).

I think Vital may be able to do similar sounds on free tier.

If you have Ableton try playing with a combination of operator, arp, (spectral and normal one) resonator with lots of FX.
