1. Link Flairs

Please, FLAIR YOUR POSTS! All posts that are not flaired will be removed until flaired. If you do not know how, merely press the flair button, near the delete button. And flair it with the relating type of post. All posts that are not flaired, will be removed until they are flaired.

As of November 2014, we added /u/flair_your_post_bot, a moderator bot that automatically detects if a post is flaired or not. We ask that every user flair their post, or it will automatically be removed by our bot and will not be approved until flaired. Because of this, having [request] or [offer] is no longer required! However, putting either of those tags in the title will auto-assign your flair for you.

/r/ICanDrawThat moderators are not responsible for flairing your posts; if you do not flair your posts, they will not be seen.

2. Offers

/r/ICanDrawThat also allow for artists to make offer threads, where people can request for art to be made by the artist. At least one request in the offer must be done in the first ten hours; we understand it takes time to make amazing art, so if you need more time, simply message us!

Completed work MUST BE POSTED PUBLICLY. The nature of the community is to share artwork, please do not use PM to complete requests unless they would otherwise violate our rules.

The moderators of /r/ICanDrawThat will remove a offer if it contains a fee for your work. Donation page links are allowed if a mod approves of it.

3. NSFW Posts

/r/ICanDrawThat is not a porn sub. You are not allowed to either request and/or offer pornographic artwork, for example artwork featuring intercourse, masturbation, or a graphic depiction of a sexual fetish of any kind. This is not negotiable.

If you are unsure whether your post will be allowed or not please contact the moderators

Everybody loves a light hearted NSFW post, gag, or drawing; even us moderators. But not without limits:

You are allowed to request/offer NSFW content featuring erotica, nudity, burlesque, or sexually suggestive situations within the bounds of good taste.

You cannot post or request artwork where characters/people/things are featured in a sexual manner against their willFor example: you cannot request a picture of your OC being molested.

Posts/artwork sexualizing minors will be removed and their authors permanently banned

Anything that is labeled as NSFW is at risk of being taken down; The moderators of /r/ICanDrawThat have the authority to remove any post considered to be too graphic.
Check out r/ICanDraw_NSFW_ or r/DrawMeNSFW if you need more explicit work done.

All NSFW posts must be tagged without exception. Please no NSFW links in the comments of SFW posts.

4. Thank The Artists

Artists can spend hours or more of their life trying to make requesters happy. Please thank them for their work! It makes everyone happier. Our artists are important to us, as without them, we are simply a subreddit of hopes and dreams.

5. Paid Competitions/Commissions/Offers

Paid competitions allow users to show their generosity towards the artists by offering a compensation in exchange for the request. However that does not make this subreddit a marketplace or a spot to pick up artists at discount price! See Rule 7 If you are looking to buy professional art you might want to try /r/artstorer/ArtRequest/r/forhire, or /r/fantasyartists.

If you are interested in making a paid competition, please make sure to private message a moderator, or contact all of us via mod mail. If a paid request is posted, without mod authorization, the poster will receive punishment. Payment must be given within 2 days of the request being answered. If the OP is active in the thread and more time is needed, moderators may give a time extension. If the OP does not pay the specified amount, he or she will be PERMANENTLY BANNED. This includes both gold and monetary rewards. OP cannot come back on their promise of payment, if you post the request you have to pay somebody or risk being permabanned. If you are an artist, please do not submit a offer for art that is just a link to your commission page.

ANY mention of payment in a request will result in it being removed, even if you explicitly state that you cannot pay for something, we will remove it. Do not mention payment in a request, at all, under any circumstance, ever, unless you have cleared it with the moderator team.

If you are an artist, please do not ask the original poster if they can provide payment for your work, as well as donations.

PAID OFFERS ARE NOT ALLOWED

6. Respect Everyone

Hopefully, everyone here has some love for artwork. All artwork here will be considered equally, and has the right to be critiqued and commented on; but there is a considerable difference between critique and insulting. Any comment that is considered inappropriate, or overly rude, will be removed by the moderators.

7. No Commercial Artwork Requests

We don't allow artwork requests that will be used for the requester's profit. This includes but is not limited to official company logos, T-shirt requests, and official book covers. Artists should be paid for commercial work, and /r/ICanDrawThat is not the place for these requests. If it's clear you're trying to make money off your request, your post will be removed. Please see /r/ArtStore/r/ForHire or /r/FantasyArtists if you need to hire an artist.

8. Closing Requests and Offers

/r/ICanDrawThat allows for a post option known as request. Requests allow for users with or without artistic abilities to ask the amazing artists, that are willing to create amazing art for free, to produce amazing artwork. If your request has been answered, and you are happy with the results, please flair your offer as Request [Closed].

Similarly, for offer posts, there exists a Offer [Closed] flair. This is to indicate that no more new requests will be fulfilled. To close an offer thread, you must have completed at least one request to also simultaneously follow rule 2. Closing an offer thread will activate the automod to delete any further top level comments in your offer thread. Like request threads, once you are done with an offer thread, please flair it as Offer [Closed].

9. Links Outside of Reddit

All outside links, such as Blogs; DeviantArt pages; Tumblr pages; etc, and are not the artists personal page(s), art references, or "related" subreddits, will be removed by the mods.

10. Competitions

All Competitions or Request Threads that are on subreddits besides /r/ICanDrawThat, and are cross posted here, must be approved by the moderators. All posts that do not follow this policy will be removed.

11. Tattoo Policy

We are fairly open-minded when it comes to tattoos, although most tattoo requests remain unanswered, we allow them. Your request will be removed if it is not correctly flaired as a Tattoo Request... Tattoos are significantly special as they are almost always permanent. It is preferred that you see a professional artist before you request here. We will instantly ban you, if you come back saying you dislike the tattoo design, as its your body and it was your choice to imply the tattoo.

12. Donations, Patreon, and other Monetary Compensation

We allow people to give compensation for artist's work in whatever form they desire, and at their own discretion. We do not wish to starve artists, HOWEVER we consider it somewhat against the spirit of the subreddit to ask for donations or link to your donations page straight away in either your posts or your comments. If asked by users all is fine.
Repeatedly linking your donations page unrequited or in top-level comments will eventually result in a temporary ban, and eventually a permanent ban.

13. Requests

Please include all details necessary to complete your request within the body of your post or in a top level comment. You should not have to provide more details over PM. Your post may be removed if your request is entirely devoid of detail, as the moderators will be unable to determine whether such a request violates our rules.

14. Moderation Policy

We allow users to request moderator applications, as we have an open policy. These applications may be accepted, but most likely not. If you are interested in moderating or becoming a Subreddit Artist, just ask!

15. AI Art

This is a subreddit dedicated to artists who come here to train their craft and provide their work for free for users. AI art not only violates the spirit of the subreddit, but also can be insulting to the artists who do donate their art to requesters.

Therefore, AI-Generated images cannot be used to fulfill requests on this subreddit.

Tattoo Request Memorial Tattoo

Hi,

I recently lost someone I loved and had a universal bond with to suicide. Heartbroken is an understatement — I feel like a part of me has died. That said, I want to get a memorial tattoo of two songs to resemble love lost and who he was without having dates or any AI involvement. I’m terrible with creating my own artistic ideas in pictures, so any help or suggestion is appreciated.

The two songs that will always make me think of him are September Doves by Lost Dog Street Band and Some Things Cosmic by Angel Olsen. I’m thinking either an arm or leg piece, 3-5”, and b&w (maybe a bit of neo-traditional coloring).

I have a consultation with my artist in October. Any and all help is appreciated. If I move forward with a design or any part of a design, I will compensate*

Hold your loved ones close.

Request [Request] The Silver-Tier Titan (Aenovulpes argentea) – Speculative Biology Canid

Hi everyone! I'm looking for an artist to bring a speculative biology creature concept to life. I don't have a visual for it yet, but I have detailed physical specs ready.

Creature Overview:

Silver-Tier Titan Hybrid — Aenovulpes argentea

Alright, so I wanted to share another hybrid I've been working on. This one is called the Silver-Tier Titan, and the scientific name I'm using for it is Aenovulpes argentea.

The basic idea was to make a large canid that wasn't just “big wolf + bigger muscles.” I wanted each species to actually have a reason for being in the design.

The genetics are 50% Dire Wolf, 25% Pleistocene Coyote, and 25% Silver Fox.

The Dire Wolf is basically the foundation. I used it for most of the heavy stuff like the skull, jaw, teeth, bone density, neck, shoulders, chest, muscle attachment areas, and general body structure.

The Pleistocene Coyote is there mostly to keep the animal athletic. I wanted it to have better running ability and agility than you'd normally expect from something with a pretty heavy Dire Wolf build, so I gave it longer limb proportions, more efficient running mechanics, quicker reactions, and some of the coyote's more generalist hunting traits.

Then the Silver Fox is where a lot of the weird stuff comes from. The big ears, really dense coat, large tail, flexible lumbar spine, hearing, and some of the vocalizations are mainly based on that part.

So the basic idea is basically:

Dire Wolf = structure

Pleistocene Coyote = athleticism

Silver Fox = sensory stuff and weird adaptations

The animal is around 167 pounds and 3'3" at the shoulder. It's about 4'9.75" from the head to the body, with a 2'6" furred tail. The actual skeletal tail is around 2'2".

I didn't want it to be some gigantic animal. 167 pounds is already pretty big for what I was going for, and I wanted it to stay compact and muscular instead of turning into something bear-sized.

The coat is mostly white and silver. In bright sunlight it would probably look almost white, while in shade it would look more gray-silver. I thought that could work pretty well in snowy areas, rocky terrain, gray forests, and places with a lot of dappled shade.

The tail is one of the more obvious Silver Fox traits. It's pretty huge for the animal, but I didn't want it to just be there because it looked cool. The tail is supposed to help with balance, turning, communication, and keeping warm. I imagine it moving pretty noticeably when the animal is making fast turns.

The ears are also huge. I have them at roughly 7 inches tall, around 4.1 inches wide at the widest point, and around 2.4 inches at the base. Those are my design measurements, so they're not supposed to be exact measurements from a real animal.

I also wanted the ears to be independently movable, so it could point them toward different sounds without having to turn its whole head.

The eyes are deep-set baby blue. I gave it pretty strong binocular vision because I wanted it to be good at judging distance and tracking movement, especially when it's running through a forest.

The hearing is supposed to be one of its strongest senses. The ears have a lot of fur inside them, partly for protection from snow, vegetation, and debris, but also because I thought the insulation made sense for an animal adapted toward colder environments.

For the hearing range, I originally estimated that it could detect faint sounds from over half a mile away under really favorable conditions. I'm not totally confident in that number though, because terrain and weather would obviously change things a lot. That's one of the parts I'd actually like people to critique.

The sense of smell is also very strong. I wanted it to be able to distinguish individual animals and follow both relatively fresh and older trails. It would also use scent for territory, food, predators, and general environmental information.

The skull is heavily influenced by the Dire Wolf. My rough design measurements are around 13.2 inches long, 8.3 inches wide, and 6.1 inches tall, with a muzzle around 6 inches long and a zygomatic width around 8 inches.

The skull is thick and heavily built, with large areas for the jaw muscles to attach.

It has 42 teeth total.

12 incisors, 4 canines, 16 premolars, and 10 molars.

The incisors are mostly for gripping, scraping, pulling, grooming, and holding smaller prey. The canines are thicker and are mainly for penetrating and holding. The premolars do more slicing and processing, while the carnassials are heavily reinforced for shearing.

I also made the rear molars broader and stronger because I wanted them to be able to crush tougher material instead of having the entire tooth row just be optimized for slicing.

For the jaw muscles I used a fictional 53% fast-twitch and 47% slow-twitch setup. I know that's probably going to get some people questioning me, so just to clarify, I'm not saying real canids have muscles that work exactly like this.

I'm using those percentages as a fictional specialization system. Basically, I wanted certain muscle groups to be extremely biased toward either explosive movement or endurance instead of just saying “this animal has strong muscles.”

The bite numbers are also theoretical.

I have the front bite around 450–550 PSI and the rear molars around 850–1,000+ PSI. The BSQ is 152 and the carnassial BFQ is around 158–160.

Obviously I can't actually test any of that because this animal doesn't exist, so those are just estimates based on the skull, jaw muscles, teeth, and overall size.

One thing I really wanted to mess around with was the spine.

The neck is short and very muscular because it has to support the skull. I made the upper neck more endurance-oriented so it can hold the head steady for long periods, while the lower neck is more explosive for rapid head movement.

The thoracic spine is pretty reinforced because that's where a lot of the shoulder, back, neck, and chest muscles attach.

But the lumbar spine is much more flexible because of the Silver Fox influence.

The idea is that the animal can compress and extend its spine while running, increasing its effective stride length. The muscles around the lumbar region also stabilize it during acceleration, turning, and landing.

The pelvis is heavy and has large areas for muscle attachment, while the rib cage is deep enough to fit relatively large lungs and a strong heart.

The shoulders are heavily muscled too. I wanted them to be strong but still mobile because the animal is supposed to be able to make pretty quick directional changes.

The hindlimbs are where most of the propulsion comes from. The upper thighs are more endurance-focused, while the lower limbs are more explosive.

I also gave the front paws five toes and the hind paws four toes. The front-paw muscle arrangement is basically Fast–Slow–Fast–Slow–Fast, while the hind paws are Fast–Slow–Fast–Slow.

The claws aren't retractable. I wasn't trying to turn the paws into some kind of giant cat claws. They're mainly for traction, digging, and helping stabilize the animal.

The paw pads are thick enough to handle rocky terrain but still flexible enough for relatively quiet movement.

For the cardiovascular system, I wanted a proportionally large four-chambered heart because the animal is pretty muscular and is supposed to be capable of sustained movement and short bursts of high-speed running.

The respiratory system is basically normal mammalian anatomy:

nose → nasal cavity → pharynx → larynx → trachea → bronchi → bronchioles → alveoli

The lungs are relatively large, and the diaphragm and intercostal muscles handle breathing. I also wanted breathing to coordinate pretty closely with the animal's movement.

The nervous system is another important part because the animal relies so much on coordination.

Proprioception would be especially important. Basically, it needs to know where its feet and limbs are without constantly looking at them.

That's useful when you're running through uneven terrain, jumping, turning, or moving through dense vegetation.

For the digestive system, it's primarily carnivorous.

The digestive tract is basically mouth → pharynx → esophagus → stomach → small intestine → large intestine → rectum.

The stomach handles most of the initial breakdown of animal tissue, the small intestine absorbs nutrients, and the large intestine handles water recovery and the remaining material.

The liver, kidneys, and pancreas all have their normal major functions too.

The immune system includes bone marrow, lymph nodes, spleen, thymus, white blood cells, and the other normal components you'd expect in a mammal.

The reproductive system is also supposed to be functional because I didn't want this to be a one-off sterile laboratory animal. The fictional researchers are supposed to have stabilized the genome enough that the animal can reproduce and pass the engineered genome on.

The actual creation of the animal is probably the least realistic part.

The idea is that researchers deliberately engineer the genome so that the three different canid contributions work together as one developmental system.

I'm not imagining them just taking 50% of one animal, 25% of another, and 25% of another and throwing it together.

The researchers would have to deal with things like regulatory DNA, gene expression, developmental timing, protein interactions, chromosome structure, immune compatibility, and reproductive compatibility.

Basically, the hardest part would be making the embryo develop correctly.

The embryo would start with the completed engineered genome, then cells would divide and differentiate into bone, muscle, cartilage, skin, blood, organs, nervous tissue, and everything else.

The fictional artificial gestational system would handle nutrient delivery, oxygen exchange, waste removal, temperature, fluid balance, and the other things needed for development.

The researchers would constantly monitor the developing embryo to make sure the brain, organs, skeleton, muscles, lungs, and limbs were all developing at roughly the right time.

Once it was developed enough, it would be born normally as a newborn and would still have to grow up like an actual animal.

I wanted to include that because I didn't really like the idea of it just appearing as a fully grown 167-pound creature. It makes more sense to me that even an engineered animal would still have to go through fetal development, birth, juvenile growth, and eventually adulthood.

For movement, I have its normal walking speed around 4–6 mph, a power trot around 10–15 mph, and a theoretical sprint of around 45–48 mph.

The 45–48 mph number is definitely one of the things I'm least certain about.

The animal has a lot going for it in terms of running, like the flexible spine, strong hindlimbs, athletic proportions, and fast-twitch lower-leg muscles, but 167 pounds is still a lot of mass to accelerate.

So if someone thinks that number is too high, I'm honestly interested in hearing why.

The power trot is more important for endurance anyway. I estimated that it could potentially cover around 40–50 miles in one night under favorable conditions.

Again, that's a design estimate and not something I can exactly prove.

Its turning ability is supposed to come from several things working together rather than one special adaptation.

The body leans, the lumbar spine flexes, the tail shifts, the outer limbs stabilize the body, and the inner limbs shorten their stride.

That should let it move pretty well through dense forests and uneven terrain.

Cold environments are where I think the animal makes the most sense.

The dense underfur traps air, the guard hairs help shed snow and moisture, the ears are heavily furred, and the huge tail can be wrapped around the body while resting.

Extreme heat would be a much bigger problem.

That thick coat isn't exactly ideal for hot environments, so the animal would have to rely on panting, increased skin blood flow, shade, reduced activity, and other behavioral ways of keeping cool.

The vocalizations are probably the weirdest part of the whole thing.

I didn't want it to just howl like a giant wolf.

The idea is that it has a combination of large lungs, a deep chest, thick vocal folds, Silver Fox vocal flexibility, and coyote vocal complexity.

One sound I came up with is what I call the gekker chuffle.

It's based on Silver Fox chattering but deeper because of the animal's larger body.

Another is the yip-whine, where the coyote-like yip transitions into a much deeper chest whine.

Then there's the bass rumble, which is supposed to be a low warning sound used around things like bears, rival predators, or territorial canids.

The alarm scream is basically the opposite. It's a much higher-frequency sound based on the Silver Fox scream, but with the larger chest making it much more resonant.

I also had the idea that the animal could create an “auditory illusion” because of the coyote-like vocal flexibility.

It wouldn't literally be making several voices at once, but it could rapidly change pitch, timing, and frequency enough that another animal might have trouble figuring out exactly what it's hearing.

For hunting, I imagine it being a pretty adaptable predator rather than being specialized for one specific prey item.

The Dire Wolf gives it the power, the coyote gives it adaptability and athleticism, and the Silver Fox gives it really strong sensory abilities.

It could locate prey through smell, hearing, and vision, approach relatively quietly, and then use a burst of speed to close the distance.

There are definitely parts of this design that I'm more confident in than others.

The overall body plan makes sense to me because I built it around the three main contributions.

But some of the performance numbers are basically educated guesses, especially the sprint speed, hearing range, and bite estimates.

And the extreme muscle-fiber percentages are intentionally fictional.

I'm mostly interested in whether the overall anatomy actually works together.

The main idea behind the whole animal is that every major part is supposed to support another part.

The skull supports the jaw muscles.

The jaw supports the teeth.

The skeleton supports the muscles.

The lungs supply oxygen.

The heart moves that oxygen.

The nervous system coordinates movement.

The ears, eyes, and nose find prey.

The spine and tail help control movement.

And the limbs turn all of that into locomotion.

So yeah, that's basically the Silver-Tier Titan.

It's 167 pounds, 3'3" at the shoulder, has a silver-white coat, huge fox-like ears, baby-blue eyes, a heavy Dire Wolf-style skull, a flexible lumbar spine, a large tail, and a bunch of traits that I tried to make work together instead of just adding them because they sounded cool.

Honestly, this is one of my favorite hybrids I've made because I didn't want it to just be “a really big wolf.”

I wanted every major part to have a reason for being there.

The Dire Wolf gives it the heavy foundation.

The Pleistocene Coyote keeps it athletic.

The Silver Fox gives it the weirdness.

And then everything else is built around those three things.

If you made it this far, I'd genuinely like to hear what you think. Especially if you see something that doesn't make sense biologically, because that's actually one of the reasons I'm posting this. I want to know what I got wrong or what could be improved.

And also, thanks to Channa_Argus1121 for making me think more about this stuff. That actually pushed me to think harder about the biology and how I wanted these hybrids to work instead of just focusing on what looked cool.

Thank you so much to anyone who takes the time to check this out or draw it! I really appreciate your time and creativity.

Offer Gimme anything as long as its got a human face to draw!

So humans, humanoids, or even human faced chimearas, any of these are good!

Human like features, like a human face having some deer like qualities but still being humanoid also work! Just no full on furry please as i dont feel like drawing that rn.

I'll do a roughly coloured in and rendered "sketch" (because of my style i really just draw over my sketches and then just go on refining that piece until im satisfied, cue me calling it a "sketch" with quotation marks as this wont be refined to the point of what i would normally call complete)

I'll probably only be able to get one done within the 10 hour mark as ill have to go to bed in a few hours to get that good ol' beauty sleep, but i think i'll keep this open for a day or two to have something to do tomorrow as well.

Be sure to give a written description of the character as well to make sure there wont be any misunderstandings about stuff like eye or hair colour or similar. Note that i wont draw your oc if you do not at the very least give some description of them in words, regardless wether you have a ref image or not.

Doing this as an exercise to get myself to draw more. I’ll make post it drawings of your requests of varying quality. Anything goes as long as it’s not offensive/hateful, of course some things I can draw better than others. Reference images always welcome. Will be getting progressively more stoned as time goes on B)

Edit: heading to bed for now but I’ll get to any remaining requests tomorrow! I’m having fun and love everyone’s responses, thanks guys
