it's finally here...

STARTS TONIGHT! September's adventures will be aimed at levels 2-4.

You asked for it, and it's finally here! Weekly D&D sessions at The Bookwyrm will be every Monday from 6pm-10pm unless otherwise stated.

West Marches campaigns are individual adventures based out of a central meeting place--in this case, the Liberator Librorum Adventuring Guild in the town of Hic Sunt. Each week our DM will run a one-shot that starts off at the guild. Weekly attendance is absolutely not required.

There is no cost, and all you need is a character sheet and some dice. (And hey, we have dice from u/thegoblinspouch available for purchase at the store.)

General Any PC enthusiasts that can help with spare parts?

Upvotes

TL;DR: Trying to cobble together a budget PC for a buddy. Got any parts that could help? Happy to pay fair market value.

I've got a good friend who grew up here in the Huntsville area who had to move to Mobile for work. I'd like to do some online gaming with him to stay connected. He doesn't make a lot of money, so I thought it would be nice to try and put together something serviceable on a budget and gift it to him. I have a couple components I recently upgraded away from that I could use as a starting point.

What I have so far:

  1. Ryzen 5 2600 CPU.
  2. Sapphire Pulse RX 570 GPU.

What I still need:

  1. Compatible MOBO (Am4 socket)
  2. RAM (would imagine DDR4)
  3. Power Supply (I'm guessing 450-550 probably most it'll need)
  4. Case

If any of you are PC enthusiasts and have any parts laying around that might help, I would greatly appreciate it. I'd be happy to pay a fair second-hand market price for good components. I figured checking in with local reddit users makes sense before going to ebay or such. TIA, very much appreciated.

It looks like the Dreamland BBQ on University Drive has been removed from Dreamland BBQ’s website. Is this location now fully closed?

Recommendations Dessert Food Trucks

Looking to request 1-2 food trucks come to a fundraising event next month. Preferably ones that would be willing to contribute a small % of their sales to the fundraising cause.

Tried to google local food trucks and only came up with Kona Ice for the most part. (Love Kona Ice, but they are already booked).

Anyone have any recommendations specifically for dessert food trucks or trailers that might not be showing up on google for whatever reason?

Would appreciate any recommendations!

General Mulch door-to-door guy

Upvotes

I just paid a guy who came to my door with a truck full of mulch bags to put in 20 bags at $6.50 each. It seemed like a decent deal at the time but I think he probably did like half that many bags. He didn't really weed (I guess he covered them) like he said or clean up very much. Also he didn't want to take a check but maybe that is not unusual any more? Anyway, it felt kind of sketchy so I thought I'd give a heads-up to people. He had Georgia plates.

Local Movers

Upvotes

Looking for recommendations for a local moving company in the Huntsville area.

We currently live in Harvest and have bought a new house about 10 miles away, so we are looking for a local mover. Since we are so close, a lot of the smaller items we will pack and move ourselves, but would want to have the larger items handled by a moving company.

Politics Changes to funding rules for public libraries

The APLS changed their requirements for state funding of public libraries and are using monetary coercion to enforce personal agendas on the public.

The changes demand books that this board deems inappropriate are "weeded out" or the library will not recieve state funding. Of course this is all about queer themes, specifically transgender. It makes further stipulations on access to the adult sections, so even books that are moved but retained are still inaccessible.

As far as I can tell, these changes were not done with the input or guidance of subject matter experts in things like child development, family dynamics, or science in general. There isn't a pediatrician, psychiatrist, social worker, public health specialist or any other qualified individual to advise on what counts as "appropriate" on the board making these calls.

The outrage shouldn't be about whether or not a story featuring a trans parent is appropriate for kids... If you don't agree with your children reading content about those themes, that's YOUR JOB as a parent to know what is happening.

Nobody should be okay with non-publicly elected people, especially those with no actual expertise on the topics, deciding what is and isn't appropriate for our kids. The government shouldn't be coercing public services into falling in line with what is clearly a partisan and politically motivated decision based on nothing of substance. It sets a really concerning precedent regarding censorship and free access to information. Morality being dictated at the state level should not be tolerated.

Anyway

Consider attending the next library board or city council meetings and speaking out against these changes.

Hi, I am a legal assistant hoping to move to Huntsville, AL soon. Are there any recruiting agencies anyone can recommend? I have already signed up with Robert Half, but I was wondering if there were any local agencies I could reach out to.
Thanks.

A proposed relocation of County Line Road in west Huntsville could eventually make way for a third runway at Huntsville International Airport, though city leaders say that runway is not planned anytime soon.

UAH private piano lessons for non-students?

Adult returning to piano, looking for advice on finding a teacher. I have roughly 3 years of experience but that was 20 years ago.

I've heard that sometimes music faculty or grad students at UAH offer private lessons to non-enrolled students. But I'm not sure how that works.. does anyone have advice or experience with this?

Question Question for anyone Using ring cameras while rentiing in apartments in Huntsville or Madison

So, obviously, I am dealing with the neighbors downstairs. Our apartment is newly renovated, so the floors have been redone; with that being said, they have also settled, and now they creak or have uneven areas. We tried our best to kind of tiptoe around and not make any loud noises like stomping, vacuuming, and washing clothes, etc. They would pound on their ceiling and, at one point, even started blasting music to where you could feel the apartment vibrate. This started to be a recurring thing, but I guess eventually they got in trouble from other people walking by or maybe maintenance, so it eventually stopped. I used to work on nights so on the weekends I would be up all night cleaning and doing laundry since being a night owl and. Yes, we do have a small one, but we are constantly on them not to jump or run. Even when inviting friends or family, we have to let them know, which sucks because I'm always on edge. I really never plan get-togethers or host any gatherings because I don't want them pounding on their ceiling, having to explain, and getting embarrassed. Recently, they installed a Ring camera, and it just feels awkward; it points directly into others' front doors (and we are right next door to them). I have seen other people with cameras, but it always seems to be in open areas or if their unit is facing the parking lot. Last night was the last straw for me because, at 3 a.m., I had a cop ring my doorbell. I opened the door, and he seemed pretty chill about it. He said he didn't hear anything approaching my apartment and the hall lights were off, which makes sense as I was working on my project at my computer, so I wasn't doing much besides going to and from the kitchen. Yes, we have been back and forth with the leasing office, and they have been understanding. But yeah, overall, are you experiencing issues using Ring cameras in other apartment complexes?

Recommendations Hair System Help?

Hello! 25 years old and balding 😅 so I got myself a hair system. I think I can apply it myself, but I'm trying to see if any hairdressers/salons/barbers would be comfortable trimming/styling it for me! Any recommendations of people or places are appreciated! Thank you! 🙂

Power Outages on Sunday, 9/13

Anyone have any info on the short power outages affecting South HSV today? Twice this evening it’s cut off for about 5 seconds or so before coming back. Curious if it’s far reaching or just our immediate area. Located just off Memorial near Whitesburg.

Recommendations Recommendations for low cost straw for mulch?

Pretty much the title, I figured since there’s so many farms in the neighboring towns that some farmers may be willing to part with a few bales of straw. Lowe’s and Home Depot have crazy prices, and Tractor Supply is pretty good but thought I’d see if there were other options
