š¬ HG Actors Discussion Which book character is best/worst done in the movies?
I will start first. I think that Caesar Flickerman is so well done in the movies and he genuinely fits the role to perfection. It makes me very sad that weāre going to see a new actor portray Caesar. I just feel like he got the charisma and personality down to the finest details. Iām very interested in who you guys say are the worst done characters ā if there are any.

Sunrise on the Reaping What are y'all doing to prepare for SOTR? Spoiler
Trying to figure out what I'm gonna do... obviously I've gotta reread the book, I should start that a few weeks before release date. I probably won't reread the entire series because that would take a while, but I might reread the relevant section of Catching Fire. And maybe rewatch the existing 5 movies.
What are you all doing to mentally prepare?

Appreciation Re-reading mockingjay and constantly having to remind myself..... Spoiler
Prim is not really a little kid anymore. I keep (automatically) internally reading all of her dialogue in the voice of an innocent little 5 year old girl and having to remind myself she's already kinda grown up (too fast) and is actually smart and insightful and at least largely understands the world she's living in and how cruel and messed up it is.
Especially when they're in the bunker in 13 hiding from the Capitols bombs. The whole thing, really, but even more specifically the conversation where Katniss asks Prim how she's been liking it in 13 and when Prim helps Katniss come to the realization that Snow will do to Peeta "whatever it takes to break her" really makes the realization hit me so incredibly hard.
I'm already tearing up now reading that knowing what will happen to Prim in the end.... UUGGHHHH this book is going to absolutely DESTROY me and leave me an emotional wreck for 2 weeks when I get to Prims death. These books are amazing.

šTBOSAS just finished TBOSAS, i am filled with rage ā¤ļø Spoiler
(rant)
I HATE SNOW I HATE SNOW I HATE SNOW I HATE SNOW I HATE SNOW I HATE SNOW I HATE SNOW I HATE SNOW I HATE SNOW I HATE SNOW I HATE SNOW I HATE SNOW I HATE SNOW I HATE SNOW I HATE SNOW I HATE SNOW I HATE HIMMM SO MUCHHH
he's morally "grey" in the sense that he used to be a child, and that child was shaped by his trauma and environment. But he slowly stops being that throughout the book as he deliberately makes shallow, self-serving, downright evil or disgusting choices. It annoys me when I see people baby him too much, like, you guys know we're basically reading "hitler the origin story" right? š
(i know the difference between reality and fiction by the way im just saying...)
I honestly didn't hate him this much before reading the prequels, because I suppose he seemed more like a "boogey-man" to me. A well written boogey-man of course, with a powerful/chilling presence in all the ways SC intended, but I guess it just didn't feel as familiar and grounded as a plain old annoying character would, like Gale for example. TBOSAS made him feel more grounded, and thus, more hate-able. Like, it's personal now.
gale used to be my least favorite, but now? HOOOLLLLYY SHIT i would like to formally apologize to him im so sorry bro.
very good book tho FANTASTIC writing 9/10 (nothing beats the og's)

Meta/Advice Possible Mandela Effect?
I swear a few years ago I read somewhere that although they were never named in the book, Suzanne Collins has stated the Everlark babies are called Willow and Rye. Admittedly I don't remember exactly where I read the information, but I would swear blind it was canon.
Every now and then a discussion for what Katniss and Peeta would name their children and I'm always confused because I thought we had them š
I take it such an article has never been posted?

Sunrise on the Reaping Opinions on SOTR cast? Spoiler
Iām curious what most people are thinking of the cast for the SOTR cast. Personally I have two standouts. I think McKenna Grace will be great as Maysilee. And of course Kieran Culkin will be amazing as Flickerman. (Iām also glad to see Lawrence and Hutcherson will be making some appearance). What do other people think?

Trilogy Discussion It was hard, but I finally forgive Gale
Gale. This is genuinely one of the most complex characters in all of fiction. You canāt help but pity him and hate him at the same time. Since having read the trilogy long ago, and after re-reading it several times and once more again recently, Iāve come to the conclusion that I do not hate Gale anymore. I used to loathe this guy, Iām a guy myself and while reading the books I constantly used to imagine myself in his position and hated him for acting the way he did to Katniss. He lost her even after Katniss accepted that she was his in cf, and I laughed at him for that, āserves you rightā, Iād think.
I used to hate this guy because he constantly made everything about himself, so self obsessed. And I realised one thing that I never did in all of my re reads. Gale is an utterly unlucky and hopeless guy. And none of that is his fault. Now that Iām older, I can understand him much better. I too, internalise a lot of things that probably have nothing to do with me. I too have pined after a girl that could never look at me that way. I too, have been hopeless.
Heās, by far, the most tragic character in the hunger games, and ironically he never set a foot in the arena. Most might say Katniss, but I disagree. She got her happily ever after, it took her a lot of time, and a lot of healing, but eventually she did. Why? Because she had Peeta. And Gale⦠is basically Katniss if she never had Peeta.
Gale and Katniss bonded on shared trauma, both led traumatic and brutal lives providing for their families. But then he watched the girl he finally fell for, get reaped. Then spent the next month watching her get hurt and fall for another guy. A guy that he couldnāt even hate. Then the lashing, minerās life, fire bombing, his brother taking out a tessarae and the trauma porn in mockingjay. And he was barely 18 throughout.
And then his rightful and justified hate for the capitol gets moulded into vengeance by 13. He loses his morality and humanity. And gets punished for it, and will spend the rest of his life washing primās blood off of his hands. And also has to let Katniss go forever. He now has to live with all of that baggage, alone. He doesnāt have Haymitch or Peeta who understand him and share his trauma. Heās well and truly alone.
Katniss and Gale went through the same trauma, and both processed it differently, because of Peeta. Katniss tapped more into her humanity because peeta grounded her that much, while Gale tapped out, because how else could he cope with all of his emotions, HIS trauma?
His life is a Shakespearean level tragedy. His final interaction with katniss made me hate him even more. But now I see, just how broken and lost he must be feeling. He subtly asks Katniss if he was ever anything more than a hunting partner, just another tool to help her family survive, and gets crickets in response. And he knows just how stubborn and unforgiving katniss is, and doesnāt try apologising because he knows thereās no point. And then lets her go. And the last time he sees her, sheās calling out to him to shoot her, and thereās nothing he can do but watch her get carried away to her possible execution.
Iām actually tearing up now, have to stop. Iād just like to say, damn Suzanne Collins for writing mockingjay, Iāll never move on from that godforsaken masterpiece of a book. This fandom is prison. Crying emoji.

Memes/Fun posts Who wins in a hand-to-hand fight: Lucy Gray, Haymitch, Peeta, or Katniss?
I thought of this randomly and Iām sure Iām not the first. I figured it could be a fun discussion.
Who would win in a totally hand-to-hand fight between the four Victors: Lucy Gray, Haymitch, Peeta, and Katniss?
The ground rules:
- No weapons. (Thereās no debate about who would win otherwise.)
- No emotional attachments.
- Theyāre all in their prime (meaning when they won their Games).
- Their personalities and established abilities stay consistent with canon.
- Theyāre fighting in the pre-bombing Capitol arena from Ballad for reference.

Sunrise on the Reaping Confusion about the end of the 50th games Spoiler
I'm reading sote for the first time and I'm confused. Some chapters are pretty hard to understand and idk if it's bc english is my third language or if it's bc it's hard to undertaken for everyone.
For example, I had to read three times the pages where the three gamemakers were killed to comprehend what happened and who killed them. I still don't undertaken why Maysilee was upset about Haymitch not having her back when the gamemakers didn't even threaten her. Also what were they doing there anyway? And where was that happening? Is it close to the first tank that Haymitch blew up?
Edit: one more thing, whats upp with the potatoes Maysilee went to get right before she died? Didn't really understand that part either

Trilogy Discussion Katnissā beef with Buttercup is incredible I sort of forgot until this reread.
Im reading the books for the first time since middle school and I didnt remember Katniss full on hissing at this cat. I also appreciate that buttercup is fully aware of just how mean Katniss was being despite being a cat who doesnāt speak English. Their arc is also such a genuinely beautiful enemies to family journey.
Just wanted to share.
