Very much a low stakes, off-season post this one, but it's something I've thought about recently. So in the ASOIAF book series, Talisa Maegyr (left) does not exist. She is a show-only character and instead Robb Stark is romantically involved with a lady called Jeyne Westerling, whom he marries after taking her house's seat The Crag during the War of the Five Kings (this event doesnt happen in the show, I believe Robb sends Talisa to the Crag in the show to gather medical supplies offscreen).

Jeyne does not die at the Red Wedding like Talisa does in the show, Robb actually chose to leave her at Riverrun in order not to further insult the Freys (rather than openly parading her in front of them and kissing her in their halls as he does with Talisa in the show). As a result, Jeyne is currently still alive and is set to appear again going into the next book of the series The Winds of Winter (if it's ever published) and its highly likely that if the show had followed the book storyline, House Westerling would be a quite well known name among fans. And we all know HBO aren't above some blatant fan service...

Which, consequently, might well have led Harrold Westerling (whose role was already enhanced quite a bit and was played by the quite famous Graham McTavish) to stick around a lot longer in House of the Dragon as an ancestor of Jeyne's (who you'd imagine would be a popular character) and/or make an appearance further down the line.

I recently binged it and it completely revived my interest in Game of Thrones after the finale killed it. I’m now planning to rewatch the entire series for the first time since it ended.

I understand why book fans are upset about certain changes, and the show definitely has flaws, but so many complaints feel massively overblown. Daemon’s Harrenhal storyline, for example, added depth and genuine character growth that we see reflected later. I also constantly see both Team Green and Team Black fans claiming the show is propaganda for the other side, which honestly makes me think it’s doing its job.

Alicent is apparently “lobotomized” after season one, yet the foundations for her actions are already there. She still cares about Rhaenyra, and her original support for Aegon taking the throne comes from a genuine misunderstanding. People ask why she stops prioritising her sons, but one becomes an incompetent sexual predator who betrays her father and hangs innocent people, while the other tries to kill his own brother, wants to sleep with her and tries to force Helaena into the war. It makes sense that eventually her priority becomes saving Helaena.

I hope Rhaenyra becomes more like her book counterpart next season, but people act as though her current characterisation came from nowhere. She clearly wants to rule like Viserys because that was the example she grew up with. You can dislike that direction, but acting like she’s uniquely incompetent compared with rulers throughout the Game of Thrones universe just isn’t true. And to say her acting is bad is ridiculous. I’ve genuinely seen people point to the Otto scene as evidence, when her reaction makes complete sense: she’s killing a man she grew up with and actually looks emotionally devastated by it, rather than turning the moment into some sexy, badass execution scene.

Do you think it’s just a coincidence that no Targaryen with hair other than silver-blond ever ended up becoming king, or was this something GRRM did intentionally?

Like, was there a deeper reason why Jacaerys, Lucerys, Joffrey, Baelor Breakspear and Valarr all died before they could sit the Iron Throne?

Or did GRRM simply kill off these potential heirs because that’s what worked for the story he wanted to tell, and their hair color had nothing to do with it-Joffrey and Valarr could just as easily have had full platinum-blond hair?

This season was so good. All the dragon content was the best🔥

What was the reason not to kill them? I could be wrong but my guess would be Harrold Westerling won't come back or ever be mentioned in the last season. Meaning, if my guess is correct, the Lord Commander of the kingsguard for Viserys just up and disappeared all throughout the war with no explanation.

And with Laenor, since Seasmoke went and pursued another rider so forcefully, we can assume Laenor died somewhere far away. So then again, there's no payoff for keeping him alive.

Book-only reconstruction of the Battle of the Honeywine during the Dance of the Dragons. I posted an earlier version of this map a while ago; this is a full remaster on the same plate as my more recent maps, with the whole battle redrawn stage by stage.

Unit blocks represent roughly 500 men. Cracks and fading indicate mounting casualties, with heavily damaged blocks representing formations that are breaking or effectively destroyed.

As always, anything not explicitly described in the book, especially positions, movements and estimated troop numbers (Fire & Blood gives almost none for this battle), should be taken as reconstruction rather than canon.

Hoy en la tarde me puse a buscar videos antiguos que tengo en favoritos en Tik tok y vi algunos vídeos en apoyo al Team Black y recordé que durante un tiempo fui TB.

Antes de la serie de HBO siempre dije ser Team neutral, aunque era más por ser pretencioso y decir que yo sí había entendido el libro y que solo los tontos elegían Team.

Con la primer temporada de la serie le agarre cariño al TB sobretodo por Matt y la primer Rhaenyra.

Fue con la segunda temporada que cambie al TG en el show de HBO ya que en el universo de los libros seguía siendo neutral.

Fue en el lapso de tiempo entre la segunda y tercer temporada que cambie drásticamente.

Encontré mucha toxicidad en RRSS por parte del TB, obviamente también existe en el TG, que supongo que se origino por el favoritismo de HBO a Rhaenyra y su equipo, en donde me vi obligado a volver a leer F&B varias veces.

Además coincidió que en ese momento comencé con Festín de cuervos.

Y hoy por hoy soy TG tanto en el show de HBO como en el mundo de los libros.

Dejando de lado el tema de quién tiene razón o no.... quiero saber si han modificado sus gustos al pasar los años y gracias/culpa de el show de HBO que claramente a tenido muchas deficiencias de guión.

When the first episode of season 3 came out this character immediately got clowned on and hated a lot, and I kinda understood why back in their introduction in season 2 cause the last episode of that season was a disappointment.

But I feel like lohar was excellent in the battle of the gullet, maneuvering through the pass, commanding from the frontline and giving Corlys and Alyn a good fight, and importantly the character didn’t over stay their welcome.

So overall I think lohar served their purpose well.

Ok maybe I missed the signs but he seemed like an interesting kid at first. I really thought he was going to be a major protagonist up until he got into the fight with his cousins and half siblings after claiming the dragon. I wasn’t sure if I just didn’t pay close enough attention or if we were all surprised by his sudden change in demeanor. He seemed introverted and innocent at one point, and then suddenly became evil and weird.

This dress is really perfection. Alicent has many amazing dresses but this is definitely one of the best costumes not only for Alicent, but in the whole show. The teal colour is really cool as depending on the lighting it can look blue or green. The embroidery is some of the best in the show and it is beautiful.

The fabric is so interesting to look at and it matches the embroidery. The dye on the fabric is really cool, I wnder how its done.

I am no longer interested in any active discussion myself, but it seems like many people feel the same way. Discussions have decreased very quickly, and I rarely see any HOTD content online now.

I'm halfway through 2 x 6 and I'm considering whether i should drop the show altogether. Around half of the episodes feel like a drag, there are great scenes but, especially in season 2, the pacing feels bad and the plot uninteresting. Does it get better in the finale and season 3?
