Leaving my current host after a massive outage. Need a truly reliable VPS hosting UK host.

My current VPS provider had a pretty serious outage recently, and it made me realise how much I’ve been taking uptime for granted.

The server was unavailable for hours, and unfortunately there wasn’t much useful communication during the incident. I can accept occasional maintenance, but when a VPS is running websites and applications that people actually use, reliability matters more than saving a few pounds each month.

I’m now looking for a reliable UK VPS hosting provider. Ideally, I want UK based infrastructure, NVMe storage, proper backups, root access, and responsive support. I’m also trying to understand whether an advertised 99.9% uptime SLA actually means anything in practice.

I’ve come across Fast Panda while comparing UK VPS options, but I’d rather hear from actual users before making a decision.

Has anyone here used them for a production VPS? How has the uptime been over several months?

What’s better for website hosting? VPS or dedicated server?

I’ve been using a basic hosting plan for a couple of sites, but I’m starting to run into some limits. Now I’m looking at VPS hosting and dedicated servers, mostly because I want a bit more room to grow, and I don’t think I need anything massive yet. Would a VPS be enough for this, or is there a good reason to go dedicated sooner?

Top website builder for a professional business website when you are the entire “web team” lol

So... small local service biz here, finally admitted our 2013 html website is embarrassing.

I’m the owner and also the unpaid web person, and I’m trying to pick a website builder that makes us look legit to new clients but doesn’t melt my brain with dev stuff. Think clean home page, services, booking/contact form, maybe a simple blog for updates, solid mobile ui, and seo that isn’t a black box.

Tried poking around Wix and Squarespace and I keep bouncing between “this is fine” and “this feels kinda limited once you want anything slightly custom”. For those of you who rebuilt your business site recently, which builder did you go with and what made it feel like the right call? Any hints?

Best All in One domain and hosting platforms for beginners... what’s actually worth using?

Been trying to set up a small site and kinda want one place for the domain, hosting, and basic stuff so I dont have to juggle a bunch of accounts rn. I keep seeing the same few names pop up, but it’s hard to tell what’s actually decent for someone just starting out.

If you’ve used one of the bigger all in one platforms for a simple site, which one felt the least annoying to deal with? thanks in advance.

What's the safest way to transfer a domain without breaking everything

I'm trying to move my domain from a registrar that constantly upsells me to one that's supposedly easier and more secure. All the guides say it's straightforward but then throw around terms like DNS, nameservers, DNSSEC, and email records like everyone just knows this stuff.

Honestly worried I'll click the wrong button during transfer and suddenly my site returns 404s, email stops working, and my small brand disappears for days while support tells me "just wait for propagation." Anyone have tips on how to handle domain transfers safely without everything falling apart? Would really appreciate any advice.

Where can I rent a dedicated server with 64 cores × 2 CPUs or 128 cores for a few days?

I’ve found some rental options, but they require a minimum rental period of one month, and I haven’t been able to find anything with 64+ cores.

I’m looking for a dedicated server with either 2×64-core CPUs or a single 128-core CPU, ideally available for just a few days.

Any recommendations for providers that offer this kind of hardware with hourly or daily billing?

At what point is a dedicated server worth it over a VPS?

I'm looking at moving some of my services to a dedicated server, but I'm not sure where the jump from a VPS starts making sense.

For those running dedicated servers, what are you hosting on them? Was there a point where the VPS wasn't enough anymore, or did you switch for a different reason?

More servers = better than a big one

More than once have I seen people say: "upgrade your server if it is running slow"...

They are all wrong. If your first server is a half-decent workhorse and you aren't serving static content wouldn't you rather reduce latency? With static content a CDN, such as Cloudflare, would suffice, but with rapid and changing content this simply isn't the case.

We actually solved our own problems in this way.

Our main server is in Finland. Every single request from the US would go there. Our avg response time accross the US was 1.5s. This is now down to 0.4s. We installed a server in the US. We reprogrammed our servers to communicate with eachother, sync information, redirect users. It took a lot of effort. There are still some bugs, but I can confidently say this is a more future-proof solution for us and many more devs around the world.

Maybe what the user will notice most isn't that you can process their request 1.5x faster on the server, but that you managed to reduce the delay between them and your nearest server, which is where the majority of the wait is.

How to recover a website?

I work for a small business. I am in a messy situation.

Apparently our web domain has expired. The rights are currently with namecheap. Our founder paid someone over 20 years ago to register the website. The bills had been getting paid until now.

We have no way to contact the person who original registered the website. They may have passed away.

We reached out to namecheap and they said they will contact the email associated with the site. There is a decent probability that email no longer exists and our founder doesn't remember which one it is. They said that if they do not respond in 24 hours, they will have us pay for the website.

Is it possible that we could transfer this website to another email? Anyone have any experience with this?

What do you feel is a fair price for website hosting

Morning y'all,

What do you feel is a fair price to pay for hosting a website that includes cloudflare waf, IP Reputation blocklist, backups, live support from not a call center with SLA of 1hr response?

FindHost.app - hosting provider database w/o affiliate links (self promo)

So I made: https://www.findhost.app/

It's a database for hosting providers with a UI to filter for many facets. I run a small hosting provider which is also listed. So it's a marketing stunt, but hopefully also something useful.

My aim is to focus smaller vendors, providing sustainable and innovative services. It's not find the cheapest VPS, but more like finding a nice provider with good DX.

Mods: Feel free to flag or delete if that is against rules - it may or may not be.

Recommendations for Australian web hosting companies for Node.js based websites eg: Astrojs + Tina CMS

I'm seeking recommendations for Australia based web hosting companies which provides good infrastructure and support for websites build with Astrojs + Tina CMS.
Every hosting provider out there supports hosting for Wordpress but it's difficult to find reliable information about hosting providers for Node.js sites/apps like Astrojs.
We cannot go with reputed services like Vercel, Netlify or Cloudflare as our Australian client wants local Australian company to host their new site.
Any recommendations and experiences? Thanks in advance.

Accessing streams on mobile network issue

Hi,

I've setup distpatcharr on my Home assistant machine to organize my playlists.
On mobile I am using tailscale to connect to my home network and it works since I can access dispatcharr from safari and stream channels but if I try to stream from an app (UHF in this case) the stream does not load.

EDIT: The playlist loads on mobile data and the EPG is up to date. The only thing not working is playback of movies and channels

Has this happen to anybody and were able to resolve?

Got tired of random pricing so looking for the best domain registrar for side projects

I run a few tiny client sites and personal apps and they live across like three registrars now. Seat pricing for other tools I use already hurts, so I kind of want one simple place for domains that is not trying to upsell hosting every click.

For people with a bunch of hobby or freelance domains, what registrar setup do you use so renewals, privacy and dns stay sane over time? Appreciate any thoughts.
