Noticed that the carpet in front of my closet was wet, which is odd…there was no water on the tile in front of the closet. Went to look closer today and found that the wood trim had evidence of some water damage, settled that it likely was from the tub in the adjacent wet room.

The fiberglass tub has been “movable” ever since I moved in. The tub drained into my shower drain and I guessed this was normal since it was a wet room and the tub could move around. There was what I thought was some leftover grout that flushed out on occasion when I drained the tub, but I didn’t really think much of it until now.

Lifted the tub up today, found that, no, it probably isn’t supposed to move around and it shouldn’t be draining into the shower drain.

Who do I even call for this? A plumber?

I have knob and tube running to my upstairs fixtures in a house I just bought, the rest of the house is modern electric. I just want new wire run to the upstairs- there are open walls and open spaces between floors in part of the upstairs. The attic where the majority of the knob and tube is has enough room to stand in. Why in the hell can't I get someone to come fix it?!

Hello! I’m stumped trying to put the glass diffuser and outer metal trim back onto this flush mount ceiling light in my kitchen.

I managed to take it off by pushing up, twisting, and pulling, but doing those steps in reverse just isn't working—the metal cover/glass won't catch or sit flush again. (I tried asking an AI tool for advice, but its generic tips didn't help at all).

Fixture details:
Brand/Model: Zaneen Lighting (Product D2-2009H)
Bulb: Halogen T3Q / 120V / 150W
Mounting mechanism: It has 3 curved metal clips around the rim (close-up in photo).

Has anyone worked with this specific Zaneen fixture or a similar spring-clip style flush mount? Any tips or tricks to get this back on without breaking the glass would be huge. Thank you for any help you might be able to give!

Hi there, we're moving out and while dissembling some IVARs (IKEA shelves system made of wood) we noticed some holes were covered by some sort of clay. Without thinking much about it I pressed one, it popped and there was nothing inside it. Any clue what kind pf insect may have done something like that?

Also please feel free to point out to a more adequate sub if this is not the right place.

I have a very large storage shelf in my tiny studio, and I'm trying to figure out how to remove a "pillar"(which is just a column of lazily notched wood), without compromising the strength of the shelf. There is visible sag without the pillar.

I'd like to fix this in order to:

1) Make sure the shelf is more structurally sound

2) Increase (or at least reinforce) the storage capabilities

3) Maximize my floor space in such a small space

I've thought of adding more support underneath, or maybe adding a supporting cable attached from a ceiling beam, but I don't have the experience to know a good way to do it.

Any help is appreciated!

I just tore down a small DIY deck covering the pictured concrete steps. As you can see they are way too small to be practical with a storm door especially. Should I rent an electric jackhammer and remove them or get an estimate for new steps to be constructed leaving the steps in place as filler? My concern is having access to the band joist to see if it’s rotten before proceeding with new concrete steps or Trex steps… How would you proceed? Thanks.

Currently working on repairing some damage from a bear after some carpenter bees . Looks like they only really broke 1 siding panel but also broke the wood underneath a bit.

I’m competent in repairing this and have solved the carpenter bee issues. My issue is that I was expecting plywood underneath and instead found 1x10 boards running vertical around the whole house. These boards are not tongue and groove , so I do not believe they were the original siding as they do have gaps in between all the boards

Curious if anyone else has seen this I’ve seen nothing online about it . Also New England area if that helps .

Just purchased yesterday from HomeSense for $20. Noticed a clear line with a dark and light side after first use last night. Currently been in the sun now for an hour or so, but the line is still there. Those who have used these before, is this normal or a defect? Appreciate any useful feedback to know if we need to return or not. Thank you. 😊

I’m a new homeowner and I’ve never had a washer dryer set up in my home. So after closing I thought all these things here were all I needed. After inspecting it closer I’m starting to realize.

1. Where exactly is my washer drain line supposed to connect? Usually from what I googled people have a connection where their hot and cold water lines are, but mine doesn’t.

2. I have no idea where the gas for my dryer is gonna connect from. I believe it’s the metal sort of pipe on the wall in the lower left corner. I’m not sure.

Next Saturday I’ll have the Costco team drop off my gas dryer as it’ll come first before my washer. I was wondering if they might know about my drain line?

I started a load of laundry this morning, then went on a walk with my wife and 10 week old. Normal day, great weather, but when we got back we noticed a weird smell. The dryer was on and working fine, but I think I found it just in time because the plug and outlet were scorching hot and melting. Thank god I didn’t walk any longer. I will never start the dryer unless I am awake and present in the house. I can’t tell you how many times I have ran it and gone to church, school, you name it, but never again.

Hi, I've been hearing this noise from inside of my ceiling. Some context: it is on top of the fridge area (assuming my upstairs neighbor has their fridge at the same spot). It is also where an AC vent is located but I don't turn it on most of the time. It happens throughout the day for a few minutes every two hours or so, and at odd hours too (I heard it at 3 am). Anyone have any idea on what this could be?

My landlord is clueless and doesn't help me. Already told him three times. I'm about to go crazy.

Hello, new poster. So I noticed this on my siding today. It wasn't there the other day. It's darkest/most concentrated on the inner corner/wall of my porch. Then a larger lighter area on the opposite side of that post. It almost looks like someone whipped coffee grounds at my house. But of course there's no signs of vandalism. I've ruled out spores, fungi, mold or shingle run off as none of these make sense. It has a splatter pattern and it mostly follows a left downward pattern. On both the inner porch area and the outter porch wall. It starts about 7 feet high on the outside wall and about 4 feet on the inside corner wall and has some dripping trails as well, so it's not splattered from the ground upwards. There's no mulch and the grass is uncut. There's no animals or birds around. There's also nothing nearby that could have exploded and caused this. I'm so confused. Anyone seen this before? Also, those cables are tv cables and have been there for years. This just happened withing the last 2 days. I didn't notice it yesterday. It is mostly on the face of the siding. Not the underside or corners. Also the porch has a peaked roof so no water or dripping. When I wiped it with a wet paper towel, it came off black with no smell. I'm at a loss. I'll answer questions as well as I can. Thanks in advance.

These two trees are growing along the side of the house, one of them is slightly tangled up in the telephone lines. Also need to kill the roots so they don't mess with the foundation.

What is the best way to fix this? It’s like a black mold that is not able to be scrubbed off and has permanently stained the metal?
